My AiTCM Whump Event 2025 Summary

@aprilisthecruelestmonth Though I wanted to do more, I managed to squeak out 3 works and rec [11 fics] in the end!

I think that I struggle with events like these because most of my favorite things don't have many fics written for them. Though I also take that as a challenge, because I want to put more fics of my faves into the world. 💪✨

I also realize that I could have written more shorter works, but I have a problem where every idea I had turned into its own beast that I wanted to spend time with. Even with the lenient requirements, my life is far too erratic lol. X_X

But I'm glad I participated, because it got me to write and post works I otherwise may have left in WIP hell, as well as got me to read works I may have put off because my brain is Like That. Anyhow, here are the works I made! Please mind the warnings and tags. 🙏

Whump Fic Rec: Inscryption

@aprilisthecruelestmonth For Day 29 for the themes "Broken Trust" and "I don't want to talk about it", I want to recommend Chapter 5 of "Inscryption Oneshots" by ThousandsOfBears!

Leshy notices how his fellow Scrybes aren't really the same after his takeover. I really enjoy the author's writings on the Scrybes, the other chapters are (mostly) more lighthearted if you need something fun as a break. ;-)

An absolutely fantastic read with a focus on the Scrybes' dynamic, working together, bickering, and an overall characterization I truly love. I love its takes on the world of Inscryption and the OLD_DATA, super recommend if you like Inscryption and old people!!!

Whump Fic Rec: Boku No Hero Academia

@aprilisthecruelestmonth For Day 27 for the theme "Kidnapped", I want to recommend "when a dog barks at you, you dont bark back (you are human)" by bluescluedin!

It is still technically ongoing, but I really love feral Izuku and the whole concept in general. I also always love it when writers introduce side characters or OCs with interesting quirks. Big warning for kidnapping, dog fighting/animal abuse.

Whump Fic Rec: Yin Yang Yo!

@aprilisthecruelestmonth for Day 26 and the themes "Beaten" and "Failed Escape", I want to recommend "Sanatorium" by ApplesOfAvalon! (and their "I'm dead and Upstanding Yuck killed me" series in general, but especially Sanatorium.)

A darker take on "Upstanding Yuck" and Yuck's little... "rehabilitation". I love Yuck as a character and the way he's explored in these fics! Big heads up for torture, being held captive, mind breaking and abuse in this one.

I haven't finished reading this one yet, but I can say the Dead Dove: Do Not Eat tag is no joke! Some warnings include amputation, vivisection, child abuse, and underage rape/non-con. Please check the author's tags for more!

Violet and Dash are captured by a shadowy faction of the government and used for experimentation/research on Supers, hanging on to each other and their last shreds of humanity all the while.

Okay, so the "whump" here may be a little light and I might not be caught up with it at the time of writing this, but... I also couldn't NOT recommend this fic!

Pomni contracts a little "virus", and it changes the dynamic of her newfound relationship with Caine.... I super enjoy how this is written and think it's an absolute delight if you love Caine x Pomni!! (see author's tags for additional warnings.)

Very light on the whump, if there at all, but I'm such a softie for Murky and Lurky and found this to be a very sweet and accurate portrayal of them, especially from Lurky's POV.

A very sweet fic where The Salesman is helped through a panic attack by an unlikely friend. Not sure how much it counts as a "whump", but I'm a bit of a softie for these characters.

Pulseless Lace takes place in their original cyberpunk world, following the misadventures of an underground doctor, a game of chicken with a "nine-foot asshole" robot man and their budding relationship, and a rag-tag group of misfits as they navigate conspiracies and personal drama.

April is the Cruelest Month Whump Event 2025!

Here we are again! The second year of AitCM!

It's a good month to whump our favorite characters!

In AitCM, to complete, you only have to write 15 days, and the other fifteen days you read & rec a fic that fits one the prompts for the day. (Feel free to create and promote art pieces as well!)

This not only makes it easier to fit into a busy schedule, but it helps promote your favorite writers!

You are more than welcome, of course, to write all thirty days or rec all thirty days—or both—but that is not necessary to complete the challenge.
