Tagged (again) by @the-font-bandit as (this time) she knows I am working on something. Feather and Scale is getting a bonus content (mainly 🔥🔥🔥) offshoot, starting with the Rook x Spite hand stuff mentioned in the latest part. It starts pretty sweet though...

“Come on, you,” Rook ordered, climbing out and leaving the bedroll open for him. “Strip and get in.” By the time the flap was closed, Lucanis was down in his base layers, curled up on his side between the blankets. His shakes had lessened to a gentle shiver, though his breath still puffed up like steam. “Oh, caro mio.” Rook was sympathetic as she shimmed in behind him, aligning her chest to his back, her knees to his knees. She wormed one arm beneath his side and the mat, then brought the other around the top to join it in a tight embrace. She clasped his hands in hers. “We need to get you some better gloves.” “We need to stop climbing fucking mountains.” Lucanis was adorable when he complained. Rook hooked her chin over his shoulder and nipped at his earlobe. “Even when it gives us time alone like this?” she asked. Lucanis laughed out a breath. “If you start extolling the survival benefits of sharing body warmth…” “Would I be wrong?��

Whump Fic Rec: Inscryption

Leshy notices how his fellow Scrybes aren't really the same after his takeover. I really enjoy the author's writings on the Scrybes, the other chapters are (mostly) more lighthearted if you need something fun as a break. ;-)

this isn't a fully-fledged thought, so bear with me:

contrast Jonathan's character with Renfield. I haven't properly read Dracula, so I'm not sure if Dr. Seward's entries interspersed with the events at Castle Dracula are on purpose or due to the Dracula Daily format, but think about it.

Renfield seems to be biding his time, feeding his pet flies to his pet spiders. Dr. Seward doesn't make any predictions about this, and it's very easy for readers of the time to dismiss as the whimsies of a madman - but to my uninformed eye, it looks like he's planning something.

Contrast this display of patience and control with Jonathan's situation - the Count has locked him into one suite (one room?), stolen his clothes to assume his identity, and in the meanwhile the Vampiresses are consuming infants stolen from the townspeople. The latest image from today's entry (June 24) of the mother pleading Jonathan to return her baby? All he can do is stand by and watch, powerless.

Thematically, though, she represents the townspeople - Jonathan's horror that the Count's misdeeds will taint his (Jonathan's) reputation? Exemplified in the mother. She doesn't know that Jonathan's trapped there! All she knows is that inhabitants of Castle Dracula stole her baby. To her, Jonathan is just the face of the Castle.

In short: Renfield's slow and calculating, Jonathan's forced to spectate as the horrors ramp up in Chez Dracula. The world's turned upside-down when the man in the asylum seems saner than the sane man.
