Prompt: Character A always tells people that fear is easy to beat, nothing more than a trick of the mind. They believed it was true until Character B challenged them to spend one night in a nearby graveyard where the fears they face seem all too real

Summary:

“I did it for us,” Harry pants into his knees, gripping her hand with all his strength. “I did it so we’d both survive.” He coughs into a shiver, and can’t tell whether it’s his own hand tightening, or if there’s an answering squeeze. “We were dying,” he sobs, and when he closes his eyes he can see the outline of a cross branded into the back of his mind. Harry chokes on his next breath.

or, harry spends the night in a field full of bodies. he tries not to think about his own

high in the gallery

Prompt:  Ever since harry bought that vintage painting and hung it in his gallery, spooky things have been happening around his house...

Summary:

The painting had belonged to his uncle. And, like most of the possessions tucked away in the old Victorian mansion, Harry paid it no mind at first. That is, he was far too busy trying to sort through the tangle of his late uncle’s estate to bother uncovering the dusty canvas sheets in the art gallery. By the time he got around to it, blowing off some paperwork to wander around the wings of the house he was less familiar with, the lawyers and estate agents had all left. When he finally pulled the cover off the massive portrait on the north wall, he was all alone.

or, on break from his job with the orchestra, harry retreats to his late uncle’s manor up north. there’s a painting high in the gallery that he does his very best to ignore. an au (very) loosely inspired by the picture of dorian gray

1. What are your favorite tropes to read/write?

Less of a trope, more of a theme, but I love reading and writing gender fics that are centered on non-normative ways of experiencing one's body, whether that's trans or non-conforming characters. I'm trans and fic has offered a pretty safe space for me in terms of thinking through my own identity and presentation, as well as being exposed to different ways of being genderqueer, so gender fics have a very special place in my heart!

2. What are you most excited for about your fright fest fic?

I was really excited to get to explore themes of gender and bodily safety/autonomy through a horror setting. I find the intersection between body horror and body dysphoria a really interesting (and painful) one, and I was really thrilled to get the chance to explore some pretty graphic representations of struggling to feel quite right in your body. It's definitely more dark than I usually write for fics (I'm also pretty new to fic-writing), which was really cool to explore!

3. Can you give any spoilers about your fright fest fic?

Spoilers are just that I'll be writing about trans people, like always, and that neither of them are focused on romance or relationships. They're both quite psychological, I'd say?

4. What song, if any, best fits your fright fest fic? Feel free to explain this as much or as little as you like.

Okay, I won't explain this one but Falling for "high in the gallery".

5. Anything else you'd like to share that we didn't ask about?

Just another big thanks to the mods. for hosting the fest, I'm so excited for it!

this is from my wip for @1dfrightficfest – harry’s having some trouble with an old painting hung high in a gallery. gender vibes and very very loose swirls of the picture of dorian grey.

The weather seemed to match his melancholy. It poured for days straight, the rain a constant sheet lashing against the windows, gales tearing through the iron balustrades outside. Harry tried to continue his walks, laced up in a great overcoat and rain jacket, but a heavy fog rolled in, so thick he could barely see his own hands outstretched in front of him. After several afternoons of increasingly hopeless attempts to inspect the gardens, trying to sense his path by the vagaries of the light only to end up face-first against the dripping tiles of the manor, Harry resigned himself to the truth. 

He would have to stay inside. 

No matter, because there were plenty of things to do inside that did not require having to enter the art gallery or even pass by it. At least, that was what Harry told himself.

Prompt: Everyone gets tossed in "the pit" when they're 16. No adults, no help but for the weekly food rations that can only feed 75% of the people in the pit. People are only able to leave when they die or are let out at 24.

Harry is tossed right into the ruling gang run by 18 year old Louis with a taste for blood.
