Currently, our Earth is being destroyed. We, humans, are destroying our own planet and source of life while simultaneously proclaiming ourselves to be the smartest animals on Earth. Greed, large corporations wanting to make more money faster no matter what the cost, is destroying us. We are cutting down the Amazon for animal agriculture, we are dumping huge amounts of plastic in our oceans, and we are paying huge amounts of money to keep the general population ignorant of these pursuits, and to keep them legal. I say we not because we are directly causing this, but because we are, however indirectly, supporting this. Now, I of course do not know what you personally are doing to combat this issue, and am speaking of the general population rather than any one person, as you may very well be doing everything in your power to avert this crisis, however, it is the average person that has the power here. We are what keeps these people in business, we support their companies, and in doing so we support the destruction of or planet. These companies cannot survive without our support, and we can choose whether or not to support them. We don’t have to take this. We don’t have to accept our Earth’s destruction. We can make a change. We can boycott quietly, or we can shout over the crowd, but we can do something. If we demand change, really demand it, we can’t be denied. I am one person, and you are one person, but we can be a lot of people. Do not allow other people to take the Earth from you, they have no right to do that. We can stop this, it is possible.

Deforestation creates room for roads, agriculture, railroads, housing, mines, and power plants. Did you know that it also puts our planet in danger? It’s estimated that 300 billion tons of carbon is stored in trees. When cut, carbon inside trees gets released into the atmosphere and traps heat, aiding climate change. Since photosynthesis must occur in plants, getting rid of forests is also getting rid of our oxygen supply.
There’s also negative effects on local wildlife and humans who depend on the shelter, food, and water in forests to survive. A lack of forests also results in an increase of soil erosion and flooding.
Remember, you can make a difference. Becoming vegetarian will make it so that less land is needed for cattle. Be aware of how much paper you’re using, and always recycle if possible. Conserve energy. Reporting any illegal fires in the woods, and always keep campfires maintained and under supervision. Don’t forget to speak up and spread the issue. Your voice and actions matter more than you know.
Keep in mind that the attitude of “I’m only one person, so I can’t do much” is horrible. Get rid of those thoughts. I’m one person, too, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to make a difference. If you fear that you’re not enough, then go out and convince people of your cause. Build an army and make a change. Never say you can’t do anything.
