WILLIAM AFTON IS A CULT LEADER

So, in my rambles of everflowing and hyperfixated thoughts, I have another FNAF AU. When it comes to making these AUs, I always try to find a justification for Afton's actions (not to redeem him, just to explain why he did what he did), since that was always missing from his story. Yes, you could say his motives were to harvest remnant, but he would have to discover that after killing Charlie, his (in my understanding) 6th victim. So, besides speculation, there's no definite reason as to why Afton does what he does other than he just did it for the sake of doing it.

One thing I find interesting about the book, The Fourth Closet, and its correlation to the main story is that the reason why the spirits don't attack William during his experiments is because of the fact he wears the Spring Bonnie suit, and are essentially gaslit to think that Spring Bonnie is a friend, not their enemy. That, plus how the Mimic Virus in Help Wanted lures the player with a Spring Bonnie costume, I find is a little cult-ish and indoctrinating. I loved the theory that Afton had Baby and the Funtimes do his bidding and also the Mimic (or Afton at the time) was indoctrinating playtesters in Help Wanted, and I kind of wish it took more of that direction forward.

So, in this AU, I want to aim more in that direction. The issue at the moment is finding a way to have the cult kick off. Again, one thing that's uncertain, and that's frustrating to me from a storytelling perspective, is a motive for Afton to start killing and have the real meat of the story begin. Charlie is the reason for the resurrection and remnant farming, so Afton will have to have a reason to kill her to be the gateway to his messiah-robotic occult (and I'm making her the first victim, it is so much more cathartic that way).

Punctuating Dialogue

➸ “This is a sentence.”

➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.

➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”

➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”

➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”

➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”

➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.

“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.

“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”

➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”

➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”

However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!

➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.

If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)

➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“

“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.

➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.

➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.

Another AU idea I had the other day. This one is more grounded to the original story. Linked song is the source of inspiration.

In my head, Circus Baby, possessed by Elizabeth Afton, was split from Ennard for wanting to help Afton while the rest of the Funtimes want him dead. After Circus Baby was ejected and put herself back together, Elizabeth started gaining some clarity. Leading to a point where she realized that her dad was using her. During the fire in Pizzeria Sim, Elizabeth takes this opportunity to confront William, now in control of Baby's body, and uses her claw to kill William herself.

I've thought about using Slipknot's Everything Ends as a fan music video for this concept. It's kind of fitting. The problem is that I know it's weird to use a song about going through a tough breakup to animate a concept of a father-daughter relationship. That being said, I'm aware of that weirdness, and I don't ship the two. I'm just imagining that the realization for Elizabeth is a similar pain to a tough breakup due to the fact that you thought you did everything right, yet everything still ended up wrong.
