Saturday 14th June

late start today then focused on physics

watched a summary video of the entire paper with detailed notes

then completed questions in a variety of styles before moving on to six mark questions

hoping to do more physics as well as spanish tomorrow

only three exams left now!!!

mini hiatus over

today i wanted to maximise study leave so i headed down to the library and stayed for just over nine hours. my main focus was french, as whilst i have a maths exam tomorrow, french is more important to me and i find revising for it really helps me improve whereas with maths, the skills are less focused and it’s much broader and therefore, for me, more annoying to revise for.

i’m currently working through a writing paper, which i started yesterday, question by question to really get the most out of it.

first i annotate the question, then i plan my answer before writing it. personally i find allowing myself access to my resources it’s more helpful, although i make sure to write any words i haven't remembered in a different colour. i translate my paragraph and then get ai to edit grammatical and accuracy errors which i correct before getting a full mark rewrite and feedback so i know where to improve.

finally, i turn all the different coloured vocab from my original answer, as well as the vocab from the exemplar paragraph into flashcards before testing myself on them. these are usually more in context phrases rather than one off words, as it’s really the structure i’m focusing on, and the use of certain grammatical features.

Update

hey guyss- it’s been a while

i’ve been a bit ill recently and with exams everything has been a little hectic

i might post some of the revision i’ve done over the past week before getting back to my regular content

i hope everyone else’s exams have been going well so far- every day were nearer to the end and that amazing summer, so just keep at it!

Monday 12th May

feeling good after today’s exam, but tired from last night. not the most productive day but i did a past paper for biology which went well.

this- as always- helps to narrow down which areas to revise. i mad a short list and started working on my weaker areas. i also focused on the topic bioenergetics as it has more higher tier content but i don’t remember doing it in class.

i worked through flashcards before packing up and going to bed.

Literature exam

i actually cannot believe my luck with those questions but my revision totally paid off and i think those were the best essays i’ve written.

i had aqa so: acc-kindness, mc-ambition

can’t believe i got ambition after revising it yesterday- honestly, i thought i was cooked until i saw it

Sunday 11th May

continued to revise a christmas carol, writing paragraphs and asking chat got to suggest edits- repeated this process until i had a grade nine paragraph before moving onto the next one until i had a complete essay.

i then annotated the essay, trying to absorb the language and structure that made it high level, as i seem to struggle with how i write rather than the points i’m making.

i repeated this with another theme, then made flashcards breaking down each of the essays

i then moved onto macbeth, choosing to employ a similar process for the theme of ambition.

saturday 10th may

today wasn’t as productive as i’d hoped i’m ngl. i got up a bit late as i was quite tired from the week (noticing a bit of a pattern here) but i think tomorrow will be much better and i’m definitely gonna get the motivation and energy levels back up for the coming week.

i did manage to do some a christmas carol revision, although i find literature quite overwhelming to study for, and i think it helped. i’ve realised now that the best way to get good grades in lit is just to memorise analysis paragraphs but unfortunately it’s way too late for that now.

i’m definitely panicking a bit- especially for macbeth- and i don’t feel prepared at all. But it’s okay- tomorrows gonna be very productive and it’s just important to stay positive and remember that grades aren’t everything. apart from the stress of feeling unprepared, i did enjoy some of my revision today and i just think it’s a shame how the education system works as i think there are more effective ways to learn whilst still keeping students excited about the subject.

friday 9th may

i had my first written exam today- sociology paper one. it went pretty well tbh and i think my revision paid off. i’ve heard a few people say it was a bad paper but apart from a 2 mark question on the media i think all the others were really good!

if anyone else had the same exam, i hope it went well! i know there were also business and film study exams and possibly others in different school so hope they went well for anyone who sat those!

i didn’t do any work afterschool today because honestly i was just too tired although i usually try and do at least an hour before going out on fridays.

english literature is now my focus for the weekend and honestly i’m terrified for monday 😭😭😭

thursday 8th may

this was my last day before my sociology exam so i completed two timed past papers before calling it a day. i also reviewed the paper from tuesday which i had given my teacher to mark and may have done a few other practice questions but honestly i can’t remember?? 😔

i got a grade nine from the grade boundaries i could find but i know they fluctuate. honestly, i was super pleased cause i’m aiming for a nine and i think i can get it but my mocks didn’t go as well.

i finished my second past paper with fifteen minutes to spare today- which i’m not entirely sure how that happened- so that was cool but i was too tired to check it through and just went to bed.

Wednesday 7th May

this update’s a bit late as i didn’t have any videos or pictures. i was feeling quite tired on wednesday so i just worked through a predicted sociology question paper that is started in class and called it a day.

it’s so important to give yourself breaks, especially during exams. whilst it can feel like you need to use every minute you’ve got, it’s not heathy, and if your body’s telling you to rest, you should listen. it’ll help you in the long run, as long as you’re focused when you do revise.

Tuesday 6th May

first i did a sociology paper- i’d actually done it before for my year ten mocks and originally i lost about 27 marks from not finishing the paper. timing is my main struggle- i always write as much as i can to maximise marks, so with what i did write, i only lost about two. however, today, i finished the entire paper in the time. it’s cool to see such dramatic progress!

after dinner and a short break, i made a few english flashcards and printed a chemistry paper and practice questions.

i then worked through the topic based questions on electrolysis by first going through it in a brown pen before any revision, then using a black pen to add any information after reading my textbook, before finally marking it and adding corrections.

my phone died mid-timelapse, but i didn’t notice so i stayed focused. i find it really useful as it means my phone is no longer a distraction and i actually manage to stay focused enough to work in silence which is rare for me.

on reflection, i wished i’d have worked through the chemistry questions quicker as i think i could’ve got more done today, but overall, it wasn’t too bad.

i think i’ll be focusing more heavily on lit for the next few days. (and getting more sleep!!)
