Throughout Impel Down and the Marineford War, Jinbe will repeatedly make statements about this about being willing to die to stop the war. It fits with the focus on honor and yakuza boss vibe, but it's also an attitude that doesn't survive contact with Luffy. The answer isn't to die, but to live.

I had forgotten that it was Sengoku who revealed to the world at large that Luffy and Ace were brothers. I figured it was something that only came to light during Marineford.

Which is interesting, because it means Garp probably told him. Just when he would have done so is anybody's guess, but it's got implications for Garp and Sengoku's friendship. One imagines that's how he figured out Ace's parentage as well, since it's not something that's otherwise well known. If that's true, the fact that it's been kept secret all these years is a small point in Sengoku's favor.
