Coding Group Update (6/7/2025)
Here's the form. I'm going to be away for a bit but when I return around mid June I plan to set things up for the next chapter. I'll send invites to coders who have replied in these posts or submitted in the form. There's some helpful sections in the form to gauge interests. I'm still throwing around ideas but I want to emphasize that I'm treating this as a sort of coalition for projects.
I'm running this myself and I don't really have the time to treat this as a rpc resource community or ooc discord hub. Just think of this as a bunch of coders sharing snippets, figuring things out, carrying on crusades against the missing > and coming up with fun frameworks to share, improve, and provide some free skins to the rpc. If you have any questions, feel free to send in an ask.
Sending Feelers for a Coding Group
Are there any coders/skinners out there in the jcink coding community that would be interested in creating/joining a coding community where members produce 1 free premare skin or set of resources each every 1-3 months? It would be more about having fun with coding while being productive and contributing without too much pressure. Not quite jcink skinathon but... sort of?

Reposting this. Within next week, I'm thinking of posting a Google form with minimum sections to gather a list of discords of coders to invite and/or send an invite to those who reply in the post. The server will be super basic and functional. I'm not much of a chatter, so it'll be mostly a hub for sharing and planning. The idea is a coding group, sort of a coalition, where 1-2 diff coders produce a free skin each month in 3 month cycles. I have a writing retreat coming up, so I'll be away for a bit. In the meantime, please share this around. Thanks for the feedback, positivity, and interest.
Be well.

Resource: Responsive Web Design
Starter kit basically.. for those working on jcink skins. Viewport plus using media queries, css variables, grid, and flex will ease the process of making responsive skins but I advise keeping them in mind early on.

Note
Personally, I would use topic<!-- |input_t| --> in the body or a wrapper and then target the thread with body.topic1 ~~and then further target the exact section of the post row, I tend to use grids these days so I can change the grid orientation, hide the display of the miniprofile, etc. I do something similar with my profile codes. There's resources on IC about the variables you can grab in this way (ie, the code input which you'll see in msg/usercp, forums, categories, pages, etc).
I'm sure people have an easier, cleaner way to do this.
how tf do sites make their face claim threads have no avatar and just be a whole thread post vs looking like they were posted by the admin account like every other site. i've asked and looked and i can't find how to do it so now i'm on tattler begging. their admin posts look normal on every other thread but not the face claim threads. the fc thread they have no info, no avatar, it's just a beautiful plain fc thread. help. i'm begging. ftlog how do i do this?

Welcome to The Big Apple: Soft Opening

Today is our soft opening! The link will go live around 4pm today. Unfortunately there's a handful of mod/admin issues to sort out but it'll be a productive weekend and most of it is behind the scenes/member wall regarding some template styling and store badges. This soft opening will allow people to read the requests and check out the profiles of characters/members to help them decide on ideal fits. Think of it as a quiet, chill launch.

the big apple (wip)
This is a rough WIP personal project, so all the screenshots shared over the next few weeks/months are rough drafts and just shared to keep the motivation going as I dabble back into coding. The memberlist top section is uncoded, I'm designing things in fragments due to a busy schedule.
Context: adjustment for the memberlist/directory template I use (using jcink's display function to separate the memberlist into filterable/sortable categories: general, faces, members, quick search)

Forums & Subforums
For the most part each major colony/group has four cities/sub colonies, and each of those locations have 3 districts. This is what I meant by overachieve… In hindsight it’s already heading towards overwhelming but I’m still in love with the concepts behind it and the topics/subplots involved. Who knows what’ll happen.

I'll be updating this as I simplify the posting templates (tres minimalism), and rework the forum/subforum design a bit... maybe. I'm revisiting some projects I'd like to open as sites (Memento Mori, Dead White Rooks, Heliocentric)
Skin #3 - Week 1 + 2
Codename: Memento
Genre: Dark Supernatural / Post-apocalypse / etc
Element: Navigation + Header + Forum [1+2]
Notes
I started a 3rd skin. I’m playing catch up on it so forgive me… for patching things together. I have the heading/navigation & the front forum stuff
RE: the forums! Essentially I divided the categories to make the 10 main forums tabs, and then I place the 7 subforums into the tab content section. It was tricky but fun.

SIXTH DEGREE: School of Gifted / Superpowers
Teaser: Forums & Subforums (Responsive), Navigation
So, see those small circle for the subforums list? That’s javascript, not manual html. This is related to the Memento Mori Forum format. It’s also connected to DWR’s Stats format; regarding the ‘extract info & style it like an egomaniac’ feature.
Keep reading for more visuals & gifs!

Switching over my framework for DWR and working on forums & subforums. Added dark mode toggle option. Some mobile flexibility/adjustment (still working through) for subforums.
