#jcink coding community

Reposting this. Within next week, I'm thinking of posting a Google form with minimum sections to gather a list of discords of coders to invite and/or send an invite to those who reply in the post. The server will be super basic and functional. I'm not much of a chatter, so it'll be mostly a hub for sharing and planning. The idea is a coding group, sort of a coalition, where 1-2 diff coders produce a free skin each month in 3 month cycles. I have a writing retreat coming up, so I'll be away for a bit. In the meantime, please share this around. Thanks for the feedback, positivity, and interest.
Be well.
Sending Feelers for a Coding Group
Are there any coders/skinners out there in the jcink coding community that would be interested in creating/joining a coding community where members produce 1 free premare skin or set of resources each every 1-3 months? It would be more about having fun with coding while being productive and contributing without too much pressure. Not quite jcink skinathon but... sort of?

Skin Preview site updated
A few updates to my preview site:
1. Resources have been moved over from CTTW and some edits have been made. Specifically, I added a class named .unset to around 90% of the templates. It -- you guessed it -- unsets a lot of commonly used styles (but only on the template, your skins are safe). This is a little bulky but it will help the templates work with more skins in the wild. 2. The Shiver skin did not want to play nicely with one of the templates so I made some edits to the XML, mainly converting the post view template to a grid layout instead of flexbox. The XML link has been updated accordingly. 3. A full live preview of Luxury is now available on the site. You can browse the available templates for the skin in the corresponding forum.
Y'all, I'm really going to miss seeing links to edited versions of my resources, so please, please, PLEASE if you get in there and make edits, let me see somehow. Reply to the resource on my preview site or message me on Tumblr. It always made my day seeing what people came up with and I would love to keep seeing the creative things you do. Thanks, and happy holidays from widowspeak

Magicka (F2U/PWYW)
I've been wanting to do a minimalist, high-contrast skin for a while just because they tend to be a bit on the simpler side, color-palette wise. Since I've been re-binging The Order on Netflix lately, it kind of influenced the theme of the skin a bit. (In case it wasn't obvious, lol.)
The Magicka skin is a high-contrast, dual-mode skin for Jcink forums, and is optimized for Google Chrome. (Cross-tested in Opera GX and Mozilla Firefox.)
If you'd like a live preview of the skin, the link is available in the new #skin-previews channel of my Discord server!
You can access this skin here: https://ko-fi[DOT]com/s/b6453d128d
(The skin is listed in my Ko-Fi shop so I can maintain a uniform system to distribute my codes & skins, but has no minimum price! You should be able to "purchase" it for $0! Anything extra, or donations, are always appreciated but never required.)
INCLUDES:
All custom HTML template structures:
a forum index, with redirect + regular rows a topic row for threads a post row, with a tabbed mini profile a main profile with area for 6+ custom profile fields custom board stats, with the ten (10) recent topics appended a custom member list with a minimal style
A full set of DOHTML templates:
x1 "general" / admin posting template x1 "CW/TW"template x4 "thread" templates for replies x3 "development" templates x2 “communication” templates x2 “requests”/”plotters” templates x1 tabbed guidebook webpage
Custom userlinks menu
Modal pop-ups for links, statistics, setting, and controls
Easy to add/modify group variables for color coordination
Dark/light mode toggle on the skin
Responsive to smaller monitors
Upon "purchase", buyers will receive an installation guide with editing and customization instructions, as well as any necessary XML/HTML files.
Support & Refunds:
Refunds or returns are not offered on pre-made skins. Due to the nature of how they're distributed and the fact that they're digital files, I cannot offer refunds for a purchase if you buy a skin from me.
If you encounter bugs or skin-breaking issues, please reach out to me and I will do my best to fix them and provide you with updated files.
I do not offer coding support beyond initial problems with my skins at install. (i.e. Finding a bug when you install a fresh copy of the skin onto your site, etc.) If the skin breaks during modifications you make on your own, I am willing to help restore the skin to its original state. I do not provide support for third party coding that is not mine.

FREE JCINK doHTML COMMS TEMPLATE
grab the template here ← links to my ko-fi
Hey all! Needed a mental break from the skin I'm coding, so I decided to make a simple lil comms template you can use on your boards. 100% free, you can grab the code from the link above.
Planning to work on some more free codes for the Jcink roleplay community in the future, so don't forget to hit up this poll right here to throw in your opinion on what you think I should work on next!
If you have questions, there's contact info in the READ ME file. I'll try to remember to check Tumblr messages more often, but imma be honest, I'm pretty terrible at keepin up with em on here.

Shop Update —
At the end of May 2025 I will be removing the following skins and their matching codes from my Ko-Fi shop:
Devil
Fine Line
Ivy
Moonlight
Until they are taken down from my shop, I am offering a 25% off all these skins and their matching codes — use code LASTCHANCE at checkout.
Starting July, 2025 I will no longer offer coding support on these skins.
The coding on these skins may be outdated and does not reflect the many updates that have been made to JCink in the last few years, , or expectations within the JCink RP community, and do not reflect my own personal product standard. If there is enough of a wish for it, I may update some of these skins in the future to meet my own standards.
If you have any questions, please reach out via inbox or my coding discord!

I've been getting a lot of hits lately on my posts about my favorite forum scripts, which sadly now have a lot of dead links since my go-to resource repositories are closed. Which, honestly, is something I'm still mourning. But for everyone who still sees my posts (or visits this blog), I'd like to direct you over to jcodes, which either still has most of those resources, or has a community of developers who can help you out by making a new version of what you're looking for.
Alternatively, if there's something I've specifically referenced in one of my posts that is now a dead link, chances are that I've still got it saved somewhere. So feel free to send me an ask and I'll see if I can dig it out for you (with its original credits) or find someone else who might.

There was a time where for everyone RP was like a field of rye. We were up to our necks, our parents' necks, our sisters' and brothers' necks, up to it in rye and and virtue. But it's not like that any more because it's all all about mobile phones and high school educations and rules about counting words and how much you can eat and if you're from the Americas or not. I would like to see timezones abolished and RP returned to proboards. //
1. No one has ever asked my level of education in order to write. 2. Phones are easier for people, get over yourself, if you mean I. RP once more, comms in RP have been a thing for at least 13y. I know they’re on PB, I have coded comms templates for it back 10y ago. 3. 97% of sites are no word count, but devils advocate, I’d be upset if I spent hours on 1k words and got 150 back. WC is so you know you have similar writing lengths so no one feels slighted. 4. Time zones are so you know you have similar hours to chat ooc with someone, lol. I have a friend on the other side of the world I never get to talk to. Time zones in RP have been a thing for at least 13y, this a weird fixation. Finally, no one is keeping you here. If you’re so miserable by these things, leave.
// my you misapprehend me. This isn't as deep as you're making it, but your time and attention is appreciated. Once RP was like a cultivated crop of a certain kind of dark grain. The plants grew tall (metaphorically) as tall as everyone in the community. But in the last 15 years, the jcink rpc no longer cultivates the land for this purpose. Nature is healing. We think it's about literacy and connection, but it's actually about technological art (literally). And this is international, that's what I'm saying. I'm really happy here. That's what I was trying to say. There is no timezone fixation, only fuzzy boundaries and time is relative.

hi mabel! this may be a broad question and honestly feel free to ignore it! but how did you get into skinning/coding? i really want to make a skin of my own one day and just learn more coding in general (i know very few basics). i suppose it's definitely trial and error! i know there used to be guides on cttw and other sites i believe but i don't think i've found any creative ones! do you perhaps have any resources/suggestions? thank you for your time!! ♡
Hi Anon! That's a good question, we all start somewhere. Personally I started my journey at uni, I took an elective for webdesign which taught me basics. Meanwhile, I was starting to make my own thread templates and slowly built up the confidence to take on the challenge of building my own skin!
When it comes to coding, there's a few communities on discord such as inner child, coding camp, and the roleplay source (I'm sure there's more, I'm probably not aware). There's lot's of resources there for jcink specifically and the community is great about answering questions too! On the other hand, design wise, I can only speak about my process and personal experience. Whenever I start a new project, I go around Dribbble, Pinterest, Behance and other sites for inspiration. For me it's all about analysing a website I like and thinking "what do i like about this? why is this working? why is not?". And there's a lot of answers to that, it could be hierarchy of information, the way an element is displayed or how a texture is being used. This helps me discover new ways of using elements which I hadn't thought of before. From that, I try to build a mockup of the site before coding, it helps me visualize the structures of the boxes and start thinking where elements will go, etc. Nowadays I use figma, but even pen and paper are a great helper.
This is a long answer to the question, i really hope it helps! Feel free to DM if you like, or if there's anything specifically you'd like to know such as how to use elements and principles of design, coding or process related I'm happy to answer <3

Coders giving away free jcink skins is a nail in the coffin and going to put people out of business. It's undercutting. If you're just using css to recolor a base that's fine, but fully templated skins with profiles take dozens of hours. You should be charging out of respect. This is not a hard concept. Coders have bills to pay.
...Huh? Providing codes, themes, skins for a massive community where competent/trustworthy coders are about 1:1,000 isn't undercutting. But this is such a hot-button topic in itself.

HI, so long time no talk! I haven't gone anywhere, I just had some personal financial troubles that were resolved via...lots of overtime! I am a physicist by day, so that meant I became one by night for a couple months. But I remained coding, designing, & sketching things in my scant moments.
More importantly, I've been doing a lot of reading & observing of the Jcink RPC & I am really gutted by the lack of free resources I've seen become manifest. As a result, I've been percolating some easy design methods I could use to fast track totally free skins to give out as bi-monthly as I can manage in the near future.
Because I'm not one to stick to an aesthetic or design style so much as following a settled philosophy of coding, each of my skins will be entirely unique (no reused assets besides utility scripts, perhaps fonts, etc) but will all be;
Designed to be entirely responsive, with fallback & default setups for Custom Fields, image appearance or omission, etc.
Designed to load in a second & half or under, universally.
Neatened to be readable, cascade-organized, & fully notated with CSS & HTML notes to explain important components, how they work, & how to edit them.
Provided with a dark, light, & middle theme colour option as well as High Contrast option.
Provided with Staff, Member & Character profile & miniprofiles.
Provided with a full Custom BBCode suite of site templates to match the skin.
Based on the UI/UX design of a game with striking visuals that can be used for similar genres.
Now, this is a tall order, but I really want to flex my muscle & try to give folks something to be optimistic over in a landscape of drama-blog wastelanded distress. I want to put out something productive & positive, to make the community better & bring us together a bit <3 As a result, I'm going to need a little help from you all. I need to figure out which "Inspos" to work off of first based on desire for them, to fill the starving niches from most important to "least" so to speak. For the next few weeks, I'll post some polls & would be endlessly grateful if you all paid it forward by boosting but also voting on the games whose vibes you want to see MOST PRESSINGLY manifested as skins in the Jcink RPC.
I will, also, eventually port each one to Forumactivo, so for my Forumactivo folks, please let me know when you get specific polls so I can prioritize converting those skins for you! You deserve just as much love!
Of course, if there's a specific game you want to see feel free to comment on this post & I'll make sure to put it in the first poll, but for now that's all. The first list of inspo options will come out later today or tomorrow, Stay tuned & stay awesome, may the Dance keep you all absolutely blessed!

Hi there, very interested in this, but I'll admit I'm entirely unfamiliar with jcink. Is there anything I should know about that experience other than I guess rping will be happening in a forum? Will there be an ooc chat where people can easily communicate?
Hello! I'm glad to hear you're interested!
First off, in the applications I see so far, a lot of the people applying are relatively new to or unfamiliar with Jcink, so you wouldn't be alone!
All of the roleplay will occur on the Forum itself, in designated roleplay areas. I have a guide in our guidebook on how to setup your account, as well as HTML you can use on your character profiles!
Other than that, it's very similar to how one would post on a discord roleplay. You find the thread that you want to reply to, hit "reply", type up your reply, and then post it!
One of the nice things about forums is the ability to use what's called posting tables, or HTML templates! Halcyon Mine has some listed on the site itself for members to use freely, and even has a couple that are integrated, eliminating the majority of the HTML code so that you don't have to worry about it! This was done with the fact that some people may not know much about forums/HTML in mind <3
As for OOC, the majority of that will take place in Discord! The only exception would be things like shop purchases and signing up for events, which would happen on the forum for archival purposes, but any OOC discussion, character plotting, etc will all take place on Discord!
I will be here and more than happy to help anyone with the transition from other styles of RP (Discord, Cbox, etc) to forum RP, and questions will be welcome at any time!
I hope this has soothed some of your worries!!! Feel free to let me know if there's anything I've missed!

You Are Here
Hi! I'm Bee, a millennial who spends way too much time playing with computers. I'm currently unemployed because childcare costs the Earth. So, I'm trying to use my time wisely and setting out on a journey to expand my coding knowledge. I started coding years ago (DOS at 4) and picked up HTML & CSS at uni (a long time ago). But now it's time to really get into it and learn some modern languages.
Along the way, I hope to give something back to the RP community that really got me into it all in the first place. Some post templates, some JCINK skins, some notion templates and a few maps I draw for funsies.
My links:
https://ko-fi.com/beedesigns/ - my ko-fi where I share most of my codes.
https://ko-fi.com/s/0237c0509e - a FREE responsive guidebook template for forum RP communities. Designed to be dropped straight into a JCINK webpage.
RP Forum Webring - an oldschool webring linking PbP Forum RP sites together, no matter the genre or host. Explore the ring and discover something new today. Or join the ring!! Just use the form at the bottom of the page.

GAMBIT COVE is an up-and-coming small town slice of life roleplay hosted on jcink. we hope to foster a welcoming and inclusive 18+ community once we finally open.
on a small island of the coast of miami, florida, a small community resides, nestled in between a cove port and a backdrop of rolling hills. with a small population, most foot traffic is made up of vacationers and the odd tourist every so often. there’s nothing much to see here, but much more lies beneath the surface. in such a small place, how many secrets can one person keep?
we are still looking for 2-3 staff members to round out our team. preferably we would like someone with coding experience or that can make better graphics because mine are subpar to most. please reach out on tumblr or dm on discord @ kasteia to apply!

Hey followers, there's been a change of staff on this blog, and I'm using this opportunity to get everyone's input as we adjust to this change. Would you be interested in this blog being transformed into a better coding resource? This would include: tutorials & possible live coding sessions, resources to encourage self-coding, a collection of base coding sets you are free to adapt, and other things of this nature. Basically a more active, collaborative learning community instead of slowly updated buying/adopting skin page.
