Game Night (2018)
"You're not going to know what's real and what's fake"
Who's up for a board game? If the answer is negative, this movie will change your mind. I'm not talking about the usual. Get ready for weekly meetings and games with friends, just like Max and Annie (did you see what I did there?). Having spent many evenings with friends playing board games they are ready for something more adventurous and exciting. Brooks, Max's brother, will be the cause, because he will put the group in a mystery game, full of murders, villains and agents. Making them wonder "What's true and what's a lie?"
An adventure comedy ideal for a pleasant evening at home, breaking away from various cliché comedies quite a bit. This movie will not change your life, nor will it make you think deep thoughts, but not all times are the same. The lead duo Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams is as much fun as the rest of the cast of the movie, with my personal favorite being the weird police neighbor Jesse Plemons. A fun movie reminiscent in style of "The Hangover" and "Horrible Bosses" in a darker version. Most importantly, the movie knows what it has to offer and will make you have a good time. And who knows it might roast you to arrange nights like this with your friends.
Could it become your next guilty pleasure?

City of God (2002)
"If you run, the beast catches you; if you stay, the beast eats you."
We find ourselves in the City of God. A city that lucks everything we have seen. In this city gangs, drugs and violence are dominant. Life is tough, and you have to fight in order to survive. If you are lucky you could live through the age of 20 but you will lose something far more important, your childhood. "Rocket" is a child living in the City of God in the 60s and the only thing that he loves is photography. But sometimes you cannot choose your future.
This movie is so powerful and authentic unlike anything else I have ever seen. And that is because it screams "Reality". It shows us, how difficult life is for some people in ways that we cannot even imagine. Away from the comfort of our lives. The movie doesn't overreact. It isn't polite. It's goal isn't the happy ending. It's goal is to show you simply how things are. The cost of life is nonexistent, survival can be accidental in a gang-ruled city and with the police being absolutely absent and bought.
Based on the book of the same name by Paulo Lins, who moved to the "City of God" at the age of 7, this movie was a huge success in Brazil and was nominated for four Oscars and many other awards. It is absolutely worth seeing, but you should be prepared for something you have never seen before!!

Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
"You know what a loser is? A real loser is somebody that's too afraid of not winning, they don't even try."
What is more important than fulfilling your dreams? Having people who love you, support you in the process. One road trip, a family, a bitter sweet adventure.
Family. One word so many different meanings. Family is the people growing up with you, they are the ones who accept you, who support you no matter what everyone says, who will do anything to see you smile and be happy. That's what we learn in this movie. A family may be disfunctional, not perfect, but people will find a way to make things work, when they love each other. And that's what matters in the end.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
"Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland in search of our better selves?"
In the post-apocalyptic future, the tyrannical Immortan Joe rules the humanity by enslaving the survivors of the apocalypse. The new home of the humanity is inside a fortress in the desert. Max is a former captive when he meets Furiosa. Both have the same goal. To escape the tyranny. But when they form an alliance to help the five wives of Immortan Joe, they will have to escape him in order to survive.
I want to be honest and say that there are many times that I have doubted a movie without even seeing it. I know this is a huge mistake particularly when this movie is Mad Max:Fury Road. I said to myself "This is going to be a very mediocre action movie". I was so wrong. The acting performances, the special effects and more particularly the cinematography are magnificent. This is easily now one of my favorite movies of the genre, because there is action, there is thrill, there is humour, there is stunning images. What else could I say. I can't wait for the next movie!!!

I’m thinking of ending things (2020)
I suspect humans are the only animals that know the inevitability of their own death. Other animals live in the present, humans cannot. So they invented hope.
A young woman takes a trip with her boyfriend to meet his parents.
Honestly, this is it. A woman and his boyfriend travel to his parents’ farm to meet them. Doesn’t sound special.does it? Well you can say that it’s a story quite simple. But the way you see it. That’s what makes it special. And all you need is an open mind. This movie steps out of the ordinary and presents things in such a unique way. I can’t say that i blame those, who say they didn’t like this movie. And I agree with everything i have read about it, because everyone saw something else in it. That’s why you need the open mind. This is a complete metaphor movie. So don’t start expecting the ordinary. Things will happen and you will start questioning them. Charlie Kaufman once more gives us something we expect, which is a movie that we never expected! See what I did there? Go check it out if you haven’t already, it will be worth it.

It’s a wonderful life (1946)
“Strange isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?
George Bailey is a good and sympathetic person. He inherits from his father a small business, which contradicts with the interests of Henry Potter, the richest person in town. On Christmas Eve his uncle loses their last money and George is most likely to be imprisoned. With no hope he thinks of killing himself. The only thing that could save him is a stranger, who appears claiming to be his guardian angel!
This is a movie for the ages. So classic but also new. Almost a century after its release it remains the most loved and played christmas movie ever. Some people have seen it, some others claim that they have, even though they know nothing about it. The movie presents the value of life and how every single one of us is important for the lives of others. Being black and white is actually my favourite element, because it adds to the old movies style. The - going back in time- narrative may seem not so original nowadays, but think about the cinema in 1946, it never happened!! Plus this is where other movies of this genre were inspired from later on. With all of these in mind, this movie is a perfect choice for the holidays, that could never let you down. And to those of you who haven’t seen it, I don’t know what you are still doing here!! Go check it out.

Knives out (2019)
"A donut hole inside a donut's hole. But we must look a little closer. And when we do, we see that the donut hole has a hole in its center. It is a donut hole but a smaller donut with is own hole, and our donut is not whole at all!"
When the famous crime novelist Harlan Thomson is found dead after his 85th birthday, Detective Benoit Blanc is hired to investigate it. Lies and mysteries of the family are revealed throughout the search and all this leads in something you never suspected!!!
A modern Agatha Cristie inspired crime mystery movie. The fans of the genre will be surprised of how well everything is planned. This is one of those movies that make you suspect everyone until you find out what actually happened. All of the leads and hints are so well planned in order to guide you to whatever direction they want. And this is the most beautiful thing. I always admired directors and writers that could actually do that. Plus the cast is magnificent. Daniel Graig in the role of the famous Detective, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Toni Collette and Ana de Armas.
P.S. Watch this with your family this holiday, make your guesses and enjoy!!
