Still Head Over Heels, But Let's Talk Serena & AmourShipping Honestly
Hey Poké-fans! 👋 So, yeah, I'm a huge Serena and AmourShipping fan. Like, heart-eyes emoji times a million. ❤️ But being a true fan means you can see the things you love with an honest lens, right? And as much as I adore Serena and her bond with Ash, there are definitely some things I've scratched my head about over the years.
First off, while I loved her journey as a Performer, I really wish we saw Serena dive into more battles. Being a strong trainer isn't just about battling, absolutely! But seeing her take on more challenges in that arena would have been awesome for showing her growth and proving that she shouldn't be underestimated. Imagine her with a powerful battler like an Absol – maybe even a shiny one that could Mega Evolve?! That would have been epic! ✨
Tumblr media
Just imagine Serena with a Rhyperior — it’d be the perfect way to show her versatility and honor her mother, Grace. It would prove she’s not someone to be underestimated. If Dawn has a powerhouse like Mamoswine, why not give Serena a tank of her own? There's real strength in beauty, and the Pokégirls have shown time and again that they can be both elegant and formidable.
Tumblr media
And speaking of Showcases… look, I enjoy the performance aspect, the creativity, and the connection with her Pokémon. But sometimes they did feel a little… repetitive? I can't lie. I often wished they had a bit more of the competitive edge and strategic depth of the old Contests. Just my two cents! 🤷🏻‍♂️
While I truly love Serena’s bond with Ash, it’s always felt just a little one-sided. I wish he had remembered her instantly when they reunited after all those years—it would've made their connection feel deeper. I really wanted to see more of their relationship develop, not just in the present, but through meaningful flashbacks to their childhood. Imagine how powerful it would've been to explore how Serena's move to Kalos with her mom impacted them both—it could’ve added so much emotional weight to their story.
Also, remember Serena's natural athleticism from her Ryhorn racing practice? I always thought it would have been so cool to see her incorporate some of that into her performances or even her training! Maybe some amazing gymnastic-inspired moves? It felt like a little potential that wasn't fully explored.
Tumblr media
Finally, while I was over the moon to see Serena return in Journeys, I can't help but feel a little let down by how it was handled. I was really hoping for more substantial interaction with Ash, a proper reunion that truly showcased their growth and the strength of their bond. And the missed opportunity for Serena and May to connect?! Seriously, writers? Two amazing, supportive girls with their own unique journeys meeting and interacting would have been GOLD! 😭 And showing more of their found friendship!
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong, my love for Serena and AmourShipping is still strong! These are just the thoughts of a dedicated fan who sees the potential for even more greatness. I respect everyone's opinions, even those who aren't Serena fans, but these are just some of my personal wishes and minor gripes.
Anyone else feel the same way about any of these points? Let's chat in the comments! 👇 Of course, it's important to remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and it's perfectly okay to agree or disagree—as long as we treat each other with kindness and respect. Thank you for understanding and keeping the conversation thoughtful and respectful!

Why Penguinshipping Deserves More Love (And Why I’m Just Not Sold on Pearlshipping)
Okay, real talk—can we take a second to talk about how heavily overlooked Penguinshipping is? Like, yes, Pearlshipping gets tons of attention (honestly way too much in my opinion), and don’t even get me started on how overrated Pokeshipping still is to this day (no offense to those who still ship it). But when it comes to Penguinshipping—Kenny x Dawn—it’s like no one even remembers the emotional depth and obvious affection that was built into their dynamic.
Let’s be honest: Ash and Dawn have great chemistry as friends. They support each other, train together, and have mutual respect—but that’s it. I’ve always seen their bond as sibling-like. There’s no real romantic tension or underlying romantic hints from either side. Not to mention, their dynamic mirrors the kind of camaraderie Ash has had with other companions like May. So why is Pearlshipping still treated like the holy grail?
Don’t get me wrong I do find the ship cute and I respect anyone who ships it.
Now contrast that with Kenny, who literally had a childhood connection with Dawn. He has a crush on her. He teases her in that classic “I-like-you-so-I-annoy-you” way, and more importantly—he’s emotionally invested. Remember when he challenged Ash to a battle for the chance to travel with Dawn? He didn’t even try to hide how much she meant to him.
And even though Dawn chose to go with Ash, she still left Kenny a letter—and that letter said he looked hot battling Ash. Like… hello? That’s a moment. That’s canon Dawn blushing energy right there. You can’t ignore that she acknowledged his strength, complimented him, and didn’t just ghost him after declining his offer. There was respect. There was feeling. There was potential.
Penguinshipping isn't loud or in-your-face, but it's real. It’s layered with history, affection, and actual signs of romantic interest. I’m not saying it’s the only ship that makes sense for Dawn—but I am saying it’s a ship that deserves way more attention than it gets.
Ash might be the main character, but not every character needs to be paired with him. Let Dawn have her own story—and maybe, just maybe, Kenny’s always been quietly waiting in the wings.
If you still enjoy Pearlshipping, that's totally valid—everyone connects with different dynamics. Personally, while I do think it's a cute pairing, I see Ash and Dawn more as close friends with a sibling-like bond. But of course, that's just MY take on it.

Rant: The Pokémon Fandom Is Literally Eating Itself Alive
Can we PLEASE talk about how absolutely unbearable the Pokémon fandom has become lately?? Like I’m genuinely begging some of y’all to go outside, touch grass, and remember that this franchise was made for CHILDREN. Because what I’m seeing across the board is just… pure, unfiltered toxicity.
First of all, the graphics discourse? STILL? Yes, we all know Scarlet/Violet had a rocky launch — you can stop writing your 47th thinkpiece about the shadows not rendering properly. The gameplay is fun, the story is decent, and the characters are actually compelling. But God forbid the water texture isn’t hyper-realistic. Chill. Out.
Then there’s the shipping wars. ALL the shippers. No one’s safe here. Whether you’re a hardcore AmourShipper or a casual PalletShipper or a whatever-the-hell-the-new-names-are-shipper, why are y’all always on 100? Not everything needs to be a war. Characters can have interactions without it becoming a “they’re in love or you’re wrong and trash” debate. And don’t even get me started on the haters — the Serena haters, the Goh haters, the Iris haters. Some of y’all just love punching down on characters (and their fans) for literally no reason beyond “they took screentime away from My Fave.”
And speaking of faves: OG fanboys. Oh my god. Y’all got your Gen 1 remakes and anime callbacks and merchandise and STILL act like you're being oppressed. Not everything needs to be about Kanto. I promise. Let other generations breathe. Just because Pikachu smiled at a new character doesn’t mean the legacy is RUINED.
Also, this recent crusade against Gen 6 fans is absolutely hilarious when every generation has had its toxic fans. Y’all act like Kalos stans invented online arguments and character shipping discourse when it’s been happening since Misty got replaced in AG. Be so serious.
But the cherry on top? Ash Ketchum stans mourning his departure like it wasn’t y’all BEGGING the anime to “let him grow up” or “give us a new protagonist” for over a decade. You got what you wanted, and now you’re mad because it actually happened?? Meanwhile, Horizon is out here giving us something fresh, and yet it’s getting dragged just for daring to be different.
TL;DR: The Pokémon community used to be fun, passionate, and chaotic in a lovable way. Now it’s just loud, negative, and terminally online. Stop screaming at each other about fictional children and enjoy the damn games and shows like we used to.

Let’s talk about one of the most underrated ships in the Pokémon anime:
May x Drew (Contestshipping)
Because honestly?
It deserves way more love than it gets—especially compared to ships like Advanceshipping that rely on vague vibes and headcanons.
1. Contestshipping has actual romantic hints.
Drew gives May roses. Multiple times. Classic anime flirting move.
He says they’re for Beautifly—but May blushes. We’re not dumb.
Solidad straight-up says Drew likes May. That’s a canon character confirming it. Not fan theory. Text.
2. Their rivalry = emotional growth.
Drew starts off cocky (yes), but that’s how most anime rivals are.
Over time? He starts respecting May, offering support, even showing up to encourage her.
It’s slow-burn, respectful, and rooted in mutual growth. That’s good writing.
3. May’s reactions matter.
She blushes. She gets flustered. She’s clearly affected by Drew’s attention.
Compare that to how she interacts with Ash: friendly, grateful, but no romantic tension.
Now, a quick defense of Drew because some of y’all drag him for no reason:
“He’s arrogant!”
Yeah, at first—but he grows. Watch the BF arc. He’s calm, supportive, and mature by then.
“He’s mean to May!”
Nah. He challenges her as a rival—he never insults her as a person. There’s a huge difference.
“He’s not good for her!”
He literally helps her become stronger, praises her progress, and encourages her dreams.
That’s supportive partner material.
Meanwhile... Advanceshipping? (In my opinion):
Ash shows zero romantic interest in May.
No blushing, no jealousy, no tension.
It’s a sibling/mentor bond at best.
You're absolutely free to enjoy Advanceshipping—everyone's entitled to their favorite ships. I used to be an Advanceshipper myself, back before Serena was introduced. Even now, I still have a soft spot for it. It’s always nice to appreciate the different dynamics each pairing brings.
Conclusion:
You don’t have to ship Contestshipping.
But don’t ignore the actual evidence just because it’s not your preferred pairing.
May and Drew had:
Canon romantic hints
Tumblr media
On-screen development
Mutual growth
Third-party confirmation (Solidad)
A solid arc that evolved naturally over time
That’s more than most ships in this series get.

UGH, DAWN FANBOYS, CAN WE CHILL?! 🙄
Okay, deep breaths everyone. I need to get something off my chest about the Pokémon fandom, and specifically, a certain subset of Dawn stans. Look, I like Dawn! She's my second favorite Poké Girl, for crying out loud! So this isn't some anti-Dawn screed.
BUT HOLY ARCEUS, THE OVERRATING IS INSANE.
It's like some of y'all exist in a vacuum where Dawn is the undisputed, universally acknowledged "best Poké Girl" and anyone who dares to have a different opinion is clearly delusional. Newsflash: it's subjective! Different characters resonate with different people for different reasons. Shocking, I know. 🤯
And the absolute WORST part? The constant need to drag other characters through the mud just to make Dawn look better. Seriously? Is her awesomeness so fragile that it needs to be propped up by tearing down Serena, May, or heck, even Misty sometimes?! It's so frustrating and honestly, makes the whole fandom feel toxic.
"Oh, Serena was just boy-crazy!" "May was boring!" "Misty was just yelling all the time!" Like, can we not appreciate these characters for their own strengths and contributions to the anime? They all brought something unique to the table.
It's like some of you can't fathom that someone might genuinely prefer another character without it being some personal attack on Dawn. I love Dawn's growth, her optimism, and her bond with her Pokémon! That's why she's my second favorite! But that doesn't mean I have to pretend other characters didn't have their own amazing qualities.
Honestly, this kind of behavior is a huge part of why I get so annoyed with the Pokémon fandom sometimes. Can we please just appreciate the characters we love without feeling the need to put others down? It's not a competition! Let people enjoy who they enjoy without the constant negativity.
TL;DR: I love Dawn, but the aggressive, overrating fanboys who need to trash every other Poké Girl to make her look good are giving me a headache. Let's be better, y'all! 😩

Seriously?! The XY & XYZ Hate Train Needs to Chill 🚂💨
Okay, let's talk about it. The Pokemon XY & XYZ anime. It's my absolute favorite Pokemon series, hands down. And honestly? The amount of hate it gets sometimes feels so… forced.
Like, I get it. No series is perfect. I'm not sitting here claiming it's some flawless masterpiece sent down from the heavens. There are definitely moments that could have been better, plot points some people didn't vibe with, whatever. And yeah, the hype around it can get a little intense sometimes, even I'll admit that. It's easy to get carried away with nostalgia and strong feelings.
BUT the level of vitriol some people throw at XY & XYZ? It's wild! It's like some folks decided it was Public Enemy No. 1 of the Pokemon anime and they're sticking to that narrative no matter what.
And honestly, the hypocrisy is kinda glaring. It's not like every other Pokemon series is some bastion of perfect storytelling and flawless animation. Every single iteration has its ups and downs! Yet, the XY & XYZ hate just feels… different. More aggressive, more constant.
And let's not even get started on the "OG fans are superior" mentality some people cling to. Newsflash: liking the original series doesn't give you a free pass to trash on everything that came after! Every generation of Pokemon has its merits and its fans. Can't we all just appreciate the different flavors the franchise has to offer without acting like our personal favorite is the only valid one?
Seriously, can we just acknowledge that XY & XYZ had some genuinely amazing moments? The animation was gorgeous, the battles were epic, the character development for Ash and his companions was fantastic (don't even get me STARTED on Serena!), and the overall stakes felt higher than ever before.
So yeah, maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea. That's totally fine! But the constant, often over-the-top hate just feels unnecessary and frankly, a little exhausting. Let people enjoy what they enjoy without being made to feel like their taste is somehow inferior.

It's truly disheartening to look back and see the negativity that young girl faced simply for having a childhood crush on Ash. You're absolutely right; she seemed like a sweet kid who didn't deserve any of that vitriol. It's a stark reminder of how harsh people can be, even towards children, over something so innocent. Hopefully, with more awareness and understanding, future generations will be kinder.
Looking back, the amount of hate and vitriol that this little girl got just for having a crush on Ash was insane. She is such a sweetie and did not deserve that.

I Just Don't Get the Serena/AmourShipping Hate... (Please, Let's Stop)
Okay, I need to get this off my chest. I genuinely don't understand the intense hate directed towards Serena and AmourShipping. Plus it’s getting really really old!
Serena is one of my absolute favorite Pokémon characters. Her journey of self-discovery, her determination, and her unwavering support for Ash? It's all so inspiring! She's kind, talented, and her growth throughout XY/XYZ was phenomenal.
And AmourShipping? It's just...adorable.
The way they connected, the subtle hints, the clear affection they had for each other? It was so sweet and genuine! I loved watching their relationship develop.
So, why the hate? Why the constant negativity? I've seen:
* People saying she's "clingy" when she was supportive.
* People saying she's "boring" when she had a fantastic character arc.
* People saying AmourShipping is "forced" when it was built up naturally.
* And just general, mean-spirited comments that are just... unnecessary.
It honestly makes me so sad. Like, can't we just enjoy what we love? Why does it have to be a constant battle? I don't understand why people feel the need to tear down something that brings others joy.
I love Serena. I love AmourShipping. And seeing so much hate makes me feel like I can't even express that without being attacked.
It's undeniable that every fandom has its share of… passionate individuals. And yes, that includes the Pokémon community. While I acknowledge that some Serena and AmourShipping fans can be, shall we say, a bit intense, it's also crucial to recognize that this behavior isn't exclusive to them.
Here's the thing: Every other PokéGirl and every other Ash ship has its own vocal and sometimes toxic supporters. Yet, the spotlight of criticism seems to disproportionately shine on Serena and AmourShipping. This creates an unfair and frankly, exhausting dynamic.
Instead of focusing on the negativity, let's explore a more productive approach:
* Acknowledge the positive: Every PokéGirl and every ship has its merits. Let's celebrate what we love about each character and pairing, rather than fixating on their perceived flaws.
* Promote respectful dialogue: Instead of engaging in heated debates, let's strive for respectful conversations. We can express our preferences without tearing down others' favorites.
* Encourage creative expression: Let's channel our passion into positive outlets like fanart, fanfiction, and thoughtful discussions. Let's create content that celebrates the characters and ships we love.
* Recognize the diversity of opinions: Fandoms are diverse spaces with a wide range of perspectives. Let's respect those differences and avoid generalizations.
* Call out toxic behavior, regardless of the target: If we see toxic behavior, regardless of who it's directed at, let's call it out. Let's create a culture where everyone feels welcome and respected.
* Focus on what brings us joy: At the end of the day, fandoms are supposed to be fun. Let's prioritize the aspects that bring us joy and minimize our exposure to negativity.
* Understand that it’s fiction: It is a cartoon, and these are fictional characters. It’s okay to have opinions, but it is not okay to attack people over a cartoon.
Let’s try to remember that we are all fans of the same franchise, and we should be able to enjoy it without being attacked for our preferences.
Let's shift the narrative from negativity to positivity, from division to unity. Let's create a fandom where everyone feels welcome and respected, regardless of their favorite PokéGirl or ship.

Seriously the Pokemon fandom as a whole is one of the most toxic fandoms out there! All this hate is getting people nowhere and is a waste of time and energy! Also screw you Serena haters! I’m fine with people not liking Serena but the constant hate is starting to get old and redundant plus ridiculous!
I'm tired of fandom fights I chose violence today
These are my real opinions

I’m I the only one who didn’t like the ending to Yugioh! 5D’s?
It’s been 13 years since 5Ds ended and I still miss this series so much. However as much as I love 5Ds, I have a lot of problems with it. Mostly due to how the second half was handled. I know there are fans who like the second half and that’s fine. While I did enjoy it I found it disappointing. I honestly prefer the first half better even though it had a few bumps on the road it was still worlds better than what the second half done.
But I’m here to talk about the ending. Now I know there’s fans who say that this is the best ending to any Yugioh season ever. Yet I disagree since there are aspects to this ending that make it one of the worst for me. While Arc-V’s ending is my absolute least favorite ending to any Yugioh. 5Ds ending is a mix bag to me. And before anyone especially 5Ds enthusiasts comes at me please hear me out! This is my opinion so don’t take it as a grain of salt.
First off I didn’t like the way the dismantling of Team 5Ds was handled especially them going their separate ways. Heck I didn’t like the way how the team broke up in general.
Everyone’s decision to leave felt so random yet forced. Jack’s decision to leave makes sense because he’s goal is to become King again and beat Yusei. However I hated how he said goodbye to Carly! Did he really had to yell at her like that?! Also why did he need a harem with Mina and this random coffee girl who we don’t even get to know that well?
Crow’s is a mix bag since I really don’t like Crow that much. I’m sorry for anyone who is a Crow fan but Crow is one of my least favorite characters in Yugioh period. One minute he’s a sector security officer then the next he’s off to conquer the duel circuit. Yet for what reason?
The twins leaving because their parents saw them on television I thought was stupid! We never got to know who their parents are? Plus we know Rua wants to be a great duelist just like Yusei, Jack and Crow. However Ruka we don’t even know what she wants to do for her future?
Aki becoming a doctor felt kind of forced to be honest. She never said anything about wanting to study in medicine or develop healing powers all season long. I don’t mind her being a doctor but it would have been better if it was implemented before instead of randomly choosing. I did like the moment she and Yusei had even if it was short lived. Yet I felt like this was such a BS excuse just to keep them apart from each other since it’s so obvious they have mutual feelings for each other.
And speaking of our main protagonist…Yusei. Poor Yusei, he deserves so much better than this. He saves the whole city with his friends and he’s the only one who stays behind because he wants to continue to protect Neo Domino City. Like I get wanting to make sure something like the Meklord genocide never happens again but at what cost? Him becoming a scientist felt random, I guess wanting to carry on in his family footsteps but like Aki it was never implied before.
Not only that but I didn’t like how everyone just abandons him after giving that half-ass high five. Although Aki was the only one who implied that she would someday return to Yusei after she is done with her studies. Yet still I didn’t like how everyone just leaves while poor Yusei is all alone having to wait 8 freaking years just to see them again?!
Also why didn’t we see Yusei’s time skip? Why not the rest of the other characters who reside in Neo Domino? Plus what happened to Rally, Nerve, Blitz, and Taka? That single cameo in the second-to-last episode is not an excuse for writing them out of the series with no explanation. Not only that but I always felt like they were more of Yusei’s friends than Team 5Ds.
Now I’m not saying that this was a bad ending but I feel that this ending was very mediocre to me. I don’t understand why people would think that friends splitting up is a good ending? Again I’m not judging but I just didn’t find the ending to 5Ds all that good in my honest opinion. Hence why I prefer the manga’s ending better because at least Yusei doesn’t end up alone and is surrounded by all the friends he’s made as they celebrate his victory with Jack. At least it had a feeling of being complete while the anime’s had so much to be desired. I feel that everyone loves to put this ending so high on a pedestal when it has a bunch of problems that just don’t work at least for me.
Especially since there were loose ends that never got resolved. Like the mysterious Yliaster member, Divine and Arcadia, Yliaster as a whole never made any sense whatsoever and I could name more but I’m too lazy to do it.
I thought 5Ds could have ended the same way how the first episode began. Like a callback to the first episode without Team 5Ds going their separate ways.
Where we get to see Team 5Ds all grown up and Yusei and Jack having their potential rematch in the kaiba dome in celebration of the anniversary of Neo Domino City’s Peace. And we see Aki, Crow and the Twins even Carly in the audience as they are rooting for their two friends to give it everything they got. And Yusei and Jack reminisce of the old times as they begin their turbo duel and bring out their ace monsters for an epic clash like how The original Beyblade ended. But that should be saved for a post-5Ds movie sequel if it ever happens.
Look if you liked the way the ending of 5Ds was that’s perfectly fine. However I just don’t bend the knee when it comes to things like this. Because everyone is going to have different opinions about something and that’s totally fine. I’m just sharing why I didn’t like as much as everyone else did. But to each of their own I guess.

My favorite YGO pairings! And nobody can tell me otherwise!!! These four look so adorable together. It’s a shame both 5Ds and Arc-V got screwed over due to production issues both series had…😔

Honestly I would be down for a 5Ds reboot. I’m not going to lie as much as I love 5Ds, I’m not going to let my bias get in the way for the MANY flaws and inconsistencies it has. I think yet feel 5Ds needs that Kamen Rider Black Sun treatment and fix the issues that the original series had with the reboot. Like making Yusei less unbeatable, Giving Aki her own character arc, Jack not being reduced to a comic relief, the twins being more useful and Crow…being less Crow. Not to mention incorporate some manga elements and having a consistent tone! Also developing the characters more as well as their relationships with each other plus bringing back the Incan Mythology theme that the series was originally based on before it turned into a Terminator knock off plot with boring yet somewhat fun filler. Oh and keep Katsumi Ono as well as Shin Yoshida far away from the project!
Things I need if 5ds ever reboots
5ds to pull a fullmetal alchemist brotherhood and get a redo (and a much better one like brotherhood)
Yuseis mom
FOR JACK NOT TO BE THROWN AS A COMEDIC SIDE CHARACTER
Yuseis mom
Jacarly not to be thrown under the bus
the actual yuaki thing to be shown as Canon!
have I mentioned Yuseis mom?
Yuseis future after the end of the series (seriously we got everyone else’s)
Some sort of prequel oneshot to all the signer parents (headcanon that the parents all knew each other somehow or another before zero reverse)
an interaction with yusei and his mom
TEAM 5DS PULLING THEIR GODDAMN WEIGHT INSTEAD OF MAKING YUSEI THE HERO FOR EVERYTHING (I know he’s the main character and all but I mean come on..Jack was the king of Turbo dueling for like two years, aki was the black rose witch, ruka was like a prodigy duelist at the age of three, and motherfucking crow beat security in a OTK. GIVE THE TEAM SOME GODDAMN CREDIT!)
Yusei and his dad to have a nice interaction instead of some good hocus pocus mambo jambo
I REALLY WANT TO SEE YUSEIS MOM BECAUSE WE ONLY GOT A PICTURE OF HER AND THAT WAS IT! LIKE SHE WAS NEVER MENTIONED OR SEEN AGAIN! LIKE WHERE WAS SHE AT WHEN SHIT WENT DOWN! @yugirl-with-dragons

If there’s one thing I like about the 5Ds manga is that Stardust is like a duel spirit partner to Yusei. I wish they did something like this in the anime where each of the Signer Dragons communicate with their partners. Aside from Ruka and Ancient Fairly Dragon. It’s sad that Yugioh doesn’t do this anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though Yusei doesn’t get Stardust until chapter 31, almost halfway through the manga, it feels like he’s given more personality than in the anime. His role is more like the traditional Duel Spirit partner.
