Did you know that JRR Tolkien wrote an unpublished epilogue to Lord of the Rings? It's achingly, beautifully wistful in the way that only Lord of the Rings is. I revisited it recently because I'm guesting on my friends' LOTR podcast, and THAT reminded me that I drew a comic of the epilogue back in 2021 (all text is entirely canon). Anyway I thought folks on this website might enjoy it!

sometimes I wonder how y'all are obsessed with specific characters and I'm like "why them" but then I remember that sometimes its literally not your choice you just look at them wrong and all of a sudden they're taking up your every thought forever

I know I'm late in the SVSSS fandom, so this might have been pointed out already. But–

I can't stop considering how shipping Airplane with anyone in SVSSS (besides Cucumber) is a way to make him confront his feelings/emotions and accept parts of himself that he might not recognize or think he's capable of being/feeling.

Because no matter how much distance there is between author and the text, no matter how sold out to a faceless mob their book might be, the main core of the characters still has to come from the author.

Therefore, all characters carry a little bit of Airplane in them.

Now, I'm not saying that they're incapable of becoming their own person after System's interference and/or SVSSS shenanigans. They did change. Otherwise, we wouldn't have got SVSSS.

But the weave of this universe is Airplane’s. The seed of all Shen Jiu's spite, Yue Qingyuan's lack of self-confidence to confront his actions, Mu Qingfang's caring side despite it all, Liu Qingge’s loyalty to a fault, Qi Qingqi appreciation for beauty, that's just to name a few.

And Bingge, oh, poor Bingge. To be the cracked mirror of a broken heart that was born to be great and, in the end, became nothing. Just like Proud Immortal Demon Way.

Not to say that I'm not biased, this silly little guy is my favorite, and I know I might be giving too much credit to our hamster man.

But back to the shipping thing.

Idk, it kinda hit me. If we ship Airplane with Qingge, for example, one common angle used is that Airplane is actually strong, but doesn't show it. Which makes sense, but you see? Liu Qingge was killed off because of his strength, he couldn’t overshadow the protagonist. How do we get a Warplane recipe? Making Airplane Confront his own strength.

Mu Qingfang? Airplane has to be faced with the fact that he deserves love, and being taken care of.

Shen Jiu? Airplane gets to have a guard dog that sees his intelligence, and fights for him.

Yue Qingyuan? Airplane’s competence is finally appreciated.

And so on and on...

Mind you, I didn’t even touch the whole moshang mess because boy oh boy do I have feels about moshang. And how Mobei’s idealistic everything is a constant slap on Airplane's ego/lack of self awareness. Because that's the thing, moshang is impossible until Airplane recognized his own role as important to the story. As the creator of it all. As someone who culturally speaking, should be idealized: God.
