Noted! It's a terrible sub; I used to use it but I had to stop because every post I made about transmisogyny existing and not being misandry got somehow misinterpreted to mean the exact opposite. Some parts of Reddit are good-ish-kinda-maybe-ehh but not that one for sure.

When I first saw the 4tran communities, I was surprised by the "DIY or die" ethos. but when you fundamentally cannot ever trust cis doctors, and most people who DIY get much safer doses, you may not think it's safe, but it is the safest and most effective option. yes, including DIY T.

I have witnessed too many horror stories of trans guys unknowingly getting Depo-Provera and breast growth as a puberty blocker, 25mg biweekly T microdoses, 0.5mg daily E, 100mg cypro (enough to cause tumors), 50mg spironolactone promised as "totally an effective puberty blocker", and "3-month" waitlists that turned out to be 2 years.

Trans people and sex dysphoria aren't that hard to understand. Here's an explanation!

A lot of "what if you could change your gender" is "woah that would be fun I could have crazy sex!" and people then assume that trans people are changing our sex just so that we can have crazy sex. But it's something deeper. A lot of us genuinely have a brain that developed with a mental map of the way we should be, and it is debilitating and miserable to be forced into the wrong body.

Here are explanations for cis men and women that might help convey it better:

If you are a man, imagine one day that your dick turns inside out. (crazy opener but bear with me) Imagine you slowly get shorter and shorter, your hips widen, and your voice sounds like a woman's. People don't see you as a man anymore, they call you a woman. But you're proud of being a man, you're happy with who you were, you miss your dick! You want to stop what's happening to you, but absolutely nobody will allow it. They think you're dumb and confused. Every doctor you could see to remove your breasts scoffs and calls you confused and hysterical. What is worse is that the face you recognized in the mirror is gone. FOREVER. You will never get back the man you used to be, and nobody will ever treat you like one no matter how desperately you try. and EVERY month, you get an awful painful bloody reminder of your new fate: you will never be a man again.

If you are a woman, imagine that one day you start getting taller, hairier, your voice starts getting much deeper, you get giant linebacker shoulders and an Adam's apple, and everyone starts calling you male. Female friends who previously felt safe and comfortable around you will now hesitate and keep their distance. Walking next to other women, you look like a giant; your hands, feet, shoulders, jawline, EVERYTHING too big, EVERYTHING feeling wrong. Your body isn't yours anymore. You can't wear a bathing suit ever again, you have to shave constantly and it's still not enough to get rid of the constant hair you're sprouting everywhere, and your voice doesn't even reflect yourself anymore. Your body is no longer yours, no longer the one you always had, always envisioned yourself having. Every single time you look in the mirror, you get an awful reminder of your new fate: you will never be a woman again.

Every single time a trans kid is denied puberty blockers or HRT, this body horror happens all over again. It is not just a hypothetical scenario for us, it is devastating life-ruining trauma. I was a girl since the day I was born, and no matter how much I begged to my "supportive" parents who only let me socially transition, no matter how much my doctors in one of the most progressive states in the US promised me I would get them, I did not get blockers. Now I am over 6 feet tall, my voice is deep and masculine, and I will NEVER fit in with women or live in a body I'm happy with the way I could have if my pleas were heard. And yes, I've tried therapy.

So all I ask is that you hear the pleas of trans kids. There are other ways to get this lifesaving medical care, even in the most bigoted and hostile places. There are ways to stop this body horror from being inflicted on the next generation. Please listen and accept that yes, maybe a girl's brain really can end up in a boy's body, and the body can be fixed, but the brain cannot.
