Don't get me wrong, Bruce Wayne is pretty consistently suicidal, I just don't think he'd even consider doing it with a gun. He wouldn't keep a gun in a safe and bury it in his yard or somehow find the gun that was used on his parents when he gets triggered by any of his allies even holding a gun and only touches them when he's actively breaking/disarming them. Sure, it's poetic to him to go the same way that his parents did but he also knows how fucked up it would be for someone to find him like that.

In my opinion, the whole concept of 'The Batman' was at least partially a long-term suicide plan. It gave him the opportunity to directly impact people, to be the person he needed when he was a child, that savior in the dark with the hope of never leaving someone alone, he put himself in an astounding amount of danger fully knowing, and likely hoping, that one day it would kill him. He just wanted to die making a difference, helping someone. If he gets really badly injured and there are still people to save he's going to get back up because he won't allow himself to die for nothing.

This whole mindset is changed dramatically when he fosters Dick and he actually starts attempting to have some form of self preservation as so much of his focus is on keeping Robin safe. Without a Robin he falls back into this mindset, where sure, he has a mission, but he's also fully accepting that part of it is his downfall. Giving him someone to watch out for and ultimately care for keeps him from falling down this depressive spiral that he had once been so used to. That's his coping mechanism and he's only kind of in denial about it.

forever so tired of a strict top-bottom/ dom-sub dichotomy, especially when a ship has a clear fandom-wide preference, even more especially when they're kind of wrong.

Like for example, Bruce Wayne is the bottom for all the supervillains and the occasional leaguer when in my mind this guy is so much of a control freak that he really has to trust a partner to top him, to relinquish any control comfortably. I think it's hard for him when anyone has any power over him. Sure, comic artists love to draw him all tied up and being held bridal-style and that's cool but this guy's whole deal is being so on top of everything that there could be rumors of him being able to see into the future.

It could be argued that the loss of control could also be a thing with him and I also agree with that but it would still have to be with a person he trusts enough to let go with. I can also see funky things with power dynamics, he is drawn toward people who could top him if he let them.

anyway every character is a switch to me and I get bored of rigid sexual roles

I don’t get the vibe that a ship has to have a designated top and bottom and one would refuse to think of them any other way like… every character is kind of a switch to me. In fact, I tend to like when the one with the most control/ vulnerability issues are the top until they’re comfortable enough to let someone else take the lead, like it has nothing to do with whoever’s taller or more built or less feminine or whatever. That’s not even a set rule, I just generally think it’s fun to fuck around.

I feel the same way about ABO dynamics, but with way more discomfort with the bioessentialism of it all.

I know the continuity where Damian’s conception is less than consensual is Problematic in many ways, but I do think that the topic of sexual assault when applied to Bruce Wayne has a lot of potential.

There is not a character out there who has control over his own body and fears losing control in general more than batman. He meticulously plans because he has to be ready for anything and it’s so rare for him to trust anyone at all.

But also his civilian persona was created to be airheaded and sexually promiscuous but with enough power that people would be stumbling over themselves to attempt to take advantage of him. And the thing is, he can’t always counter them, not without revealing that he’s far more clever than the front he puts on. Sometimes he lingers just to see if he can squeeze out any more information because his mission typically can be put before his own well-being.

The point is that I think one of the worst things you can put him through is a total loss of control stemming from what he believes is his own doing (setting up a reputation for being always willing to ‘have a good time’), because no matter what mask he wears he’s never really been anything more than a concept or a spectacle or a tool to the people around him.

Also I think it’s important to depict men having these kinds of traumas too, sexual assault is not a woman only experience and it shouldn’t be ignored, or hell, even glamorized.
