Chapter 3: Oliver
Hey Oliver, hey I just came to ask you something."Ruby reached into the pocket of her old trousers, pulled out the map, and set it down on the counter."
A little girl handed me this yesterday, but I can't read most of it; I was hoping you could help."Oliver grabbed the worn paper and unfolded it. He looked over the whole thing, front and back, with a puzzled look gracing his gentle features. He scratched his short copper beard before sighing and looking up at Ruby.
“I ain't ever seen something quite like this before, sorry.”He started to slide the paper back to Ruby but his movement halted suddenly.
“Hold on! I don't know anything, but my sister probably will; I don't think there's a language she can't at least identify. Whether it be fae or human, she has researched it."
Ruby's face lit up, and her sharp, toothy grin grew with the good news.“Really!? You're a lifesaver! When can we go see her!”
“She lives deep in the forest, a while from this town. We can go tomorrow if you're that eager.”Oliver explained while finally sliding the paper across the counter to Ruby, who shoved it back in her pocket.
“Alright! I'll pack my shit and meet you here tomorrow!”
Ruby walked back home with her head full of hope. She swung open the door a lot more aggressively than intended; however,, she was not met with the wonderful view of her girlfriend like the day before.
Their cottage was a humble size and you could see almost all of it from the door. Ruby went to check for Mary in the only places not yet visible to her, the bedroom and bathroom. She sauntered toward the room only to yet again find nothing. Rosemary’s lack of appearance immediately sent Ruby into an excessive panic. Mary didn't usually leave the house without at least informing Ruby. Her movements became more frantic as she searched more thoroughly. She jogged to the back door and flung it open. She was greeted by Rosemary kneeling in the garden tending to her pepper plants; her usual dress was opted out for a pair of overalls.
“There you are!” Ruby yelled into the back garden.
“Oh! Welcome home!”Ruby took a deep breath and walked over to Mary.
“Whatcha doing out here?” Ruby set her chin on the top of Rosemary's head, standing behind her.“I was checking on the jalapeno plants, they were looking a bit pathetic.”
Mary rubbed her dirt-covered hands in her overalls.“No gloves?”
“I couldn't find any, plus I don't mind it like this,” Mary shrugged.
“I'm done now though. Help me up?”Mary held out her scuffed hand for Ruby to help her up. Ruby grabbed it, pale bony fingers wrapping around dark tan ones. She pulled her up into her feet and then helped her steady herself. Ruby kept hold of her hand and led her back inside.Once inside Mary washed her hands while her lover sat on the counter swinging her feet.
“I'm going on a little adventure with Oliver tomorrow, we're going to go see his sister. I'll probably be gone all day, we're leaving pretty early. Is there anything you need before tomorrow?” Ruby undid her ponytail while she talked, letting her sable hair messily fall to her shoulders.
“No, I don't think so at least. You went to the market yesterday so I think we're good. Is there a reason you're going with him to see his sister?”
“She's like a master at languages or something like that. I had a few questions, and Oliver said she'd be able to answer them.”Rosemary hummed in response and dried her hands on a towel next to Ruby.
“Well, don't die, and don't accidentally get Oliver killed.”
“I think I can manage that!”

I think it’s really interesting how I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream and Lord of the Flies are direct opposites while having so much in common
Like in ihnmaims you have five of the last humans isolated inside the earth and in lotf you have five reoccurring characters which each symbolise something isolated on an island together, right before the peak of the story the character which had always previously been disliked and considered insane runs off into the middle of nowhere and disappears for multiple days while hallucinating and thinking about how much everyone hates them ?? And then the climax of the story is marked by them trying to retrieve something when they break out into a fight in frustration of their situation where death happens ?? Then somehow the stories messages ended up being “no matter how evil someone seems they always have good within” and “no matter how good someone seems they always have evil within” despite all these similarities

Quotes from Schoolgirl by Osamu Dazai
"As I begin to realize from various experiences in my life just how enormous our instincts are and how powerless we are against the force that drives us, sometimes I think I might lose my mind." (Pg 46
"The body had no connection to my mind, it developed on its own accord, which was unbearable and bewildering. It made me miserable that I was rapidly becoming an adult and that I was unable to do anything about it." (Pg 85)

Chapter two: The Map
The rest of the night went smoothly as they ate and headed for bed. Ruby was always the last of the two to fall asleep. She lay silently so she wouldn't Mary, who was sleeping soundly next to her. She let her mind wander in hopes of finding something nice to think about so she could sleep. Her brain finally rested on a thought, but it wasn't a fond memory or sweet fantasy. Instead, it was a reminder of the paper the little girl had given her.
Ruby sneakily got out of bed and found the pants she had discarded on the floor while changing. She shook them, and sure enough, a small folded paper fell out. The edges looked aged, and the paper seemed brittle. She handled it with the utmost caution and grace, unlike her normal brash movements. Once fully displayed the paper revealed an old map of some sort. Ruby recognized a lot of the locations on the map from her countless adventures at sea, all except one. The unrecognized island was large and jagged looking; not a shred of friendly aura came from it. Ruby looked at the writing on the map to try and put a name to the mysterious location, but all the words were in a language she had never before seen. The more confused she got the more interested she grew.
Ruby only knew of one other person that would know anything about the map, her old pirate friend named Oliver. He had fled come with her to Potter's Field and now ran a tavern with his wife, Penelope. Rudy made a plan to visit to tavern the next day to question her old friend. She carefully slipped the delicate map in her jacket pocket so she wouldn't forget it tomorrow.
Now that her mind was quiet and she had a plan she slid back into bed. Every movement was carefully calculated so she wouldn't wake Mary. Once fully in position, her eyes wandered to Rosemary's chest, which was moving up and down. Ruby placed a hand on her lover's chest and fell asleep with the reminder that her world was still breathing. Early in the morning of the next day, Ruby ventured to the tavern. She opened the old oak door and was greeted by a scruffy young girl running up to her and jumping on her like a dog. The young girl's name was Valery, she was a kid that Oliver and his wife Penelope had adopted off the streets last year. Valery had quickly become close with Ruby and Rosemary. The girl had even taken to calling them "Auntie Ruby and Mary."
"Valery, let Ruby sit down!" Penelope yelled at the wild child from behind the bar. Valery scrambled over to the bar where her mother was and sat down on one of the stools."Sorry about her, Dear. Valery just ate, and she's extra hyper," Penelope explained while washing out a glass.
"Oh, it's fine, I don't mind," Ruby took a seat next to Valery, who was now coloring on a napkin she had stolen from behind the counter.
"Is Oliver here today? I wanted to ask him something, but I can come back tomorrow if he's not," Ruby asked Penelope in a lighthearted tone to not sound suspicious."He's here, he's just messing with something in the back right now. Would you like me to go get him for you?"
"Yeah, if he's not too busy, that would be great," as soon as Ruby confirmed what she wanted, Penelope walked to the back to get her husband. The jewels decorating her body shone against her dark skin when she walked into the window's light and out the door. After a few minutes, Ruby heard footsteps. Oliver had arrived from the back room. He wiped his hands on his apron and scratched his rust-colored beard before speaking."Hey Ruby, Penelope said you wanted to talk to me?"

Death Shall Wait for You, My Darling
Summary: The concept of death is terrifying to many, but to Rosemary and Ruby, death is just a part of life. Both live their lives without fear of death until one day, they both discover something they can't leave behind in life... each other.
WLW, where one is a pirate and the other is terminally ill and the pirate will do anything for her.
Chapter One: Ruby walked home lazily from the market as she passed the rundown, dirty streets of Potter's Field. It was a lonely and insignificant town that the town wasn't even recognized on most maps, but that made it the perfect hideout for people who didn't want to be significant. Ruby had originally only planned to stay in the little town to keep a low profile after a not-particularly legal adventure out at sea, but she had met Rosemary, or just Mary is what she called her. She became extremely attached, and after she learned that Rosemary was likely to die young because of an unknown illness, she decided to stay in the town so she didn't have to be away from her. A sudden clatter of noises broke her train of thought. She turned her head towards the source to see two men bothering a young blonde girl. Ruby didn't have time to intervene properly because she had to get home to Mary, so she threw a rock at one of the guys' heads. Even with only one eye, she was still a good shot and knocked the man out. The other man looked down at his passed-out partner and then at Ruby. The man let go of the girl and began to yell at Ruby, but she quickly shut him up with another rock. That rock was sharper because the man seemed to be bleeding. The blonde girl was bewildered and looked between Ruby and the men for a few minutes before running to Ruby and hugging her."Thank you so much, Ma'am!" the girl exclaimed as Ruby pried the crying young one off her waist."Yeah, yeah, no problem, kid," Ruby responded dryly while still trying to get the girl off her. The young girl finally released her and held out a paper to Ruby."This is what those two men had been attacking me over. I don't know what it is, but it seems useful. You can have it as a thank you for helping me!" She took the paper from the girl and shoved it in her pocket before walking off. The girl called after her, "Thank you again, ma'am!"Ruby opened the door to her and Mary's small cottage and was greeted by the lovely sight of Rosemary in the kitchen toiling away at something. She had her back turned and hadn't heard her come home, so Ruby took the moment to watch her. She was leaning on the counter for balance with her cane off to the side. Her strawberry blonde curls bounced as she moved. The sunlight from the window made her look heavenly as it shined down on her. Ruby walked into the kitchen and placed the items she had been sent to retrieve, down on the counter. The noise alerted Mary, she quickly turned around."Oh! I didn't know you were home. Welcome back. Did you get everything?""Yeah, I got everything. I even threw rocks at two guys on the way home,""... You what?" Rosemary had turned to face Ruby, making eye contact with her, which Ruby hated. "Uhh, in my defense it was to save this random little girl they were harassing," Ruby started her quick defense and avoided eye contact with the taller woman. "Oh, I don't care then. They got what they deserved," Mary stated and then promptly went back to being calm and messing with something on the counter again."Love where your Morals are at," Ruby commented in a slightly snarky tone before letting herself fall on the couch behind her."Your morals are much more skewered, so I don't want to hear it," Mary stated, leaving no room for argument. Ruby only grunted with her face buried into the couch below in a half-hearted agreement.
