"Is it (Y/n)?" Neytiri Asked her son.
Neteyam sighed and nodded, he looked down not wanting to see the disappointment in her eyes. There was a painful silence between the two as the his mother scanned his figure.
Neytiri raised her hand to touch Neteyam's shoulder, but he thought that she was going to hit him. He flinched when her Hand came in contact with his shoulders.
"Neteyam" His mother spoke.
"It hurts me when you think that I was going to hit you" She said in a sad voice, as she continues to rub his shoulders. Neteyam processed what she said in his head.
"Neteyam I would never hurt you" Neytiri reassures him, She saw her son's shocked face and that caused her to chuckle.
"My son, Follow what your heart says now go and get her" She encouraged her son, Neteyam thanked her and then ran out of their hut.
"Thanks For giving him the talk Neytiri" Jake said as he emerged from the dark, Neytiri chuckled and gave him a peck on his lips before engulfing him to a hug.
"I couldn't help but see your younger self in him Ma Jake." They both laughed as they went back inside their hut to continue their duties.
Neteyam ran at his full speed towards your hut where he sees you packing your stuff up, he blocked your way panting as he catched his breath.
"Where *gasp* do you think *gasp* you're going?" He said out of breath, Neteyam's sudden appearance shocked you as you motioned for him to come inside your hut.
"I'm leaving Nete, I'll be looking for a new home" you said not daring to look at his eyes, you knew that when you looked at him you'll not be able to leave.
But he holds your hand and that made you look at him, you instantly regretted it as your will of leaving vanished in an instant when you saw how desperate and broken Neteyam looked.
"Please don't (Y/n) don't leave me please, I love you my Syulang I can't imagine you without here by my side! Why Can't you see that I loved you for a long time (Y/n)?!. Oel Ngati Kameie"
His declaration of love for you has put you in a state of utter disbelief, you didn't notice the tears threatening to fall from your eyes. It made your heart melt when Neteyam said the words you have longed to hear many years ago.
"I see you too Nete, But what will your mother think of our relationship? She will greatly disagree with us along with the Olo'eyktan himself"
You expressed your concern to him but he only looked down smiling while shooking his head, he chuckled and reached for your face to gently touch it and rub it.
"My Little Syulang you have nothing to fear my mother greatly favors you as well as my father, They knew that we were always meant to be together by Eywa"
You can't help but smile at him and he did too, you engulfed him in a hug in which he hugged you back tightly. You two stayed like that for hours and hours, frequently changing the positions but still cuddling each other.
No one speaks or sang and the both of you can only hear the soft whistles of the wind and the chirping of the birds, you both let your mind loose and let yourselves get comfortable in each others warmth. The both of you gradually fell asleep until the next morning.

The both of you stood at the home of Neteyam hand in hand contemplating on who will be the first to open the door, Neteyam took a deep breath and sighed before entering only to be met by Kiri.
"Hi Neteyam! Jake has been looking for you, seems like someone's in trouble~" She teased Neteyam, she looked at your joint hands and she gasped. And she met your eyes for confirmation.
You nod your head but before she could scream you stopped her by telling her that you have not yet mated before Eywa and she was disappointed.
Neytiri Came out to see who screamed only to see you and Neteyam, she looked at you scanning your figure from head to toe causing you to be anxious but Neteyam tightened his hold on your hand assuring yiu that it was okay.
"Come, Jake has been expecting you too" She said seriously before she went inside again, the both of you quickly followed her and as soon as the both of you got inside you saw Jake the Olo'eyktan himself sitting a few inches from where the both of you stood.
Neytiri joined Jake by his side sitting beside him as she motions for the both of you to sit across from them. Jake cleared his voice causing the both of you to flinch because of the nerve-wracking atmosphere.
Jake laughed at the both of you and that caused for you to loosen up and deeply sighed, he patted Neteyam's shoulder and looked at him in the eye.
"Answer me truthfully boy, do you accept her for who she is? Do you really love her? And are you willing to do ANYTHING for her and to be with her?" The Olo'eyktan asked his young son.
"Yes Sir! I love her with all of my heart and I will love her eternally until my last breath, I would do anything for her whatever it takes to make her mine and to be with me forever." Neteyam firmly said in confidence and that made you smile a little.
Neytiri smirked and looked at you causing you to get a little shy, Jake smiled at Neteyam as he let's go of his shoulder.
"Good! I'm proud of you son!" he firmly said.
"But do not celebrate yet as another challenge has made it's way to your own fates." Jake said in a serious manner causing the atmosphere to be heavy again.
"May I respectfully ask what do the Olo'eyktan mean by that?" You asked Jake and he looked at you, he motions for Neytiri to speak and she does.
"Your father was not happy on what happened to you ma (Y/n), he was enraged learning about the incident he spoke badly of you saying how you were a bad luck and a disgrace of your family."
She reached for your hand and squeezed it as a way of comfort and encouraging you to be strong, but before you say something Neytiri continued with her explanation.
"Therefore your father request has proposed for a fight with Neteyam if Teyam loses your consequences will be your banishment from the tribe and if your father loses it's their banishment."
"But isn't her dad have no longer have the right to do this as she is a bonded Na'vi?" Neteyam retorts but Neytiri shook her head.
"No Teyam, Their bond has been broken therefore the proposal of her father was made possible" She said whil looking Neteyam at his eyes.
"So what type of fight was my father's proposal?" you asked the Tsahik and her eyebrow contorted into a frown.
"A duel" She said grimacedly.
You gasped and looked at Neteyam, he looked back and he knew what you were thinking you shook your head for him to say no but he disagrees with your decision.
"Fine Where and When?" Neteyam asked, Jake smirked feeling proud of his son.
"At the training ground at the morning of (Y/n)'s Birthday"
"My birthday? that's in 2 days!" You exclaimed causing tension at the room.
"It's okay I'll be training him extra hard and give him a few tips to counter his techniques" Jake said while his arms crossed.
The 3 of us looked at him in shock as we were dumbfounded by his statement, the Olo'eyktan was expected of fairness of judgement and Jake was willing to help his son defeat your father.
"What? Even if I'm the Olo'eyktan doesn't mean I'll let my son get kick in the ass by your pops" He said.
The Father-Son duo decided to start their training now as they left you with Neytiri, you are a shy Na'vi but Neytiri Decided to train you as a Tsahik.
All of the Task of a Tsahik are already familiar with you as many of them are already a part of your daily life, Neytiri decided to train your shooting skills as well as teaching you her fighting style.
The day went on from that as all of you were busy doing your things, the day if the duel eventually comes as you put war paint all over Neteyam's body all of the tribe has came to witness a legendary moment of duel between 2 of the greatest warriors of the tribe.
You constantly asked him if he was okay and all but he replies with a consistent positive replies, as you finishes painting the last pattern you gave a deep kiss to Neteyam as a goodluck and it drove his fighting spirits up and got him all fired up.
They walked out of their respective tents as they faced at the middle of the training grounds, you saw your father there and he gave you a smirk that make you cower in fear and he laughed out loud.
"Prepare to die my useless daughter!" your father exclaimed in public causing for the tribe to give you a sympathetic look.
Jake and Neytiri announced the duel to start when he blows in a trumpet, causing the both of the duelist to start taunting each other to boost their own morale.
"Ready to lose young boy?" Your dad taunts him.
"Is your face ready to get pounded by my fists?" He taunted back causing your dad to growl and Jake to chuckle quietly, Jake drew a deep breath before sounding the trumpet.
Both of them charged at each other at full speed signalling that their duel has officially Started.

Hi I recently lost my passion in writing stories and drabbles of Avatar and Alchemy of Souls, maybe due to my busy schedule at school and etc. I'm a Graduating Senior High School Student that needs to focus more in schoolwork to be able to enter in a Public University/State Universities. Since we cannot afford for Private Universities.
I'm really grateful for the people who have supported me through out my stories and I promise to keep writing more after I graduated and managed my schedule freely, I'll be occasionally dropping some drabbles and I hope some of you will read it.
- Love lots Nanai'te/Angriel <3

(The POV of the reader will be shifted to be Neteyam's Partner, Jake's partner where the previous POV of the reader in Eywa's Chance will be known as Asaylé)
Asaylé (Ah-say-lee)

A few years have past since the birth of Asayle and Jake's 1st Child Neteyam he was quickly followed by another and they have produced 2 more, remembering Neytiri's voice Asaylé Named the other two as Lo'ak and Tuktirey. She respects and Honors Neytiri's Request as she was a tsahik before her and her mate's previous partner.
Neteyam got his father's physique and intelligence he has a talent in combat and hunting, in a very young age of 5 he managed to hunt a small animal making Jake proud of his son. Lo'ak on the other hand was quiet and curious he mostly kept to himself and go on a quiet adventures, he was a quiet troublemaker on his own.
Asaylé was currently pregnant with Tuktirey and she was going to labor in a month. Jake and Asaylé went hunting in the woods to get some food for their dinner when suddenly a small cry of help was heard by the couple, when they noticed it and realized that the cries belonged to a small girl they immediately search for it.
They stumbled upon you kneeling on the ground right next to your dead parents, you were little and were around Neteyam's Age and it hit a soft spot of the two. They approached you but you heard the two of them and you looked behind you.
Your instincts took over you as you grabbed your now dead father's knife and formed a sloppy protective stance over your parents dead bodies and hissed at them. Asaylé and Jake put their hands up and they slowly lowered their weapons trying to get you to calm down amd for you to know that they're harmless but you never let your guard down.
You were so scared of them thinking they might hurt you so you hoped that someone will save you, before you know it Atokirina's started to land on the couple baffling you. You lowered your knife and you took your hand out, a single woodsprite came to you and seemingly whispered something.
You don't know why but part of you understand it and it made your fear disappear and was quickly replaced by relief, you knew that Eywa has guided you. The couple approached you and you and you smiled sadly " Mama, Papa.... Dead " You point at your parents. They smiled sadly and hugged you.
"Is'alright papa mama mean!" You exclaimed while smiling innocently earning a side eye questions of the two. They asked if they can touch you and you nodded, they held your hand and began to walk at the opposite direction of your home.
"Where you take me? tis not house" You asked innocently while admiring the scenery, Asaylé looked at you and then kneeled at your height and placed a hand on your shoulder. "What is your name little one?" She asked you with a gentle and warm tone that made you feel safe around them.
" I (Y/n) te Tipani Yewa'ite" You confidently said earning a small smile from the older Na'vi, she chuckled and Jake felt warm inside. Asaylé and Jake introduced themselves to (Y/n) and with that it has sealed the fate of the little girl. An exciting and painful Journey Begins now.
When you arrived at their home you were immediately greeted by the kids of the Sully's, you felt uncomfortable and hid behind Jake as they were still eyeing you in a confused manner. They began to bombard both of the parents some questions and it mainly pertains of Who are you and where you're from.
They explained who you're and that you're gonna be a part of them now. A boy that was younger than a year to you rejoiced together with a girl your age and began to get close to you, as they asked you what what your interests is. While a boy in your age just stares at you and maintaining a safe distance between you as he respects your personal space.
You liked him as he can easily feel whenever someone feels uncomfy, you silently hoped that he would break them off amd to your surprise he did. You noticed how matured he is compared to the rest of you you bowed at him to thank him for his understanding and good deeds.
Without the children knowing both Asaylé and Jake looked at them proudly while Jake embraced Her and rubbed her belly, "you think they're gonna get along?" Jake asked his mate in which she replied with a single nod of approval. "I can tell that they'll get along Love" she added and giggled at how cute the kids are.
A few years have past since both Asaylé and Jake adopted you. You were good friends with Lo'ak, Kiri as well as Tuk, you tried to distance yourself from them as they were basically like a royalty to the people. They have tried numerous times to be close to you but you didn't allow them.
Neteyam grew into a fine young man with a lot of potential, he was almost the definition if the word "Perfect". He has got it all the brains, the brawn, the looks and also the attitude, but nobody's perfect. He always owns up Lo'ak's mistake he always take responsibility for it.
He was too soft hearted, JUST LIKE YOU. You two never really had some interactions there were some days where you two talked for hours and then not acknowledging each other's presence the next, you were really confused what is your relationship with Neteyam but it didn't faze you.
You were too focused in training to be the best of the best so you could prove yourself to be an asset of the people, you can't afford to be someone useless. Your combat power and knowledge are on par with Neteyam, but his Social Skills with others is what you yourself doesn't have.
Because of that you were envious of his social skills, how it seems so easy for him to chat and be friendly to everyone. For you it was a challenge you didn't know what to do when you're interacting with someone and you seem to be oblivious everytime.
You're currently hunting for your own food so you could have your breakfast, you took a deep breath as you pulled the string of your bow. You held your breath to aim at your prey and you immediately released the arrow, the arrow went straight to your target and killed it the moment the arrow lodged on it.
You released your breath and then ran up to your prey without making a sound and finished it off while mumbling the Na'vi's Death prayer, you went back to your hut and started to prepare your breakfast when all of a sudden you heard Kiri's footsteps coming at your tent and "Silently" went inside your home.
"Hi Kiri" You said in a monotone voice causing for Kiri to shriek, you laughed to yourself. "Your amazing sense of hearing never cease to amaze me (Y/n)" She said while catching her breath. You rolled your eyes and turned around to look at her eyes with a straight face.
"You need to be much more quiet Kiri otherwise if I were your prey I would've gotten away" You lectured her as you turned around to slice the ingredients, she scoffed and crossed her arms and proceeds to laugh at her own antics, "yeah yeah I get it mom! Jeez I'm not like you amazing and all mighty and shit"
You came into a halt and Kiri knew she messed up, She touched your shoulder to comfort you and asks for your forgiveness and explain that it just slipped out. But you just waited for her to stop talking before firmly saying "Get out". And she did just that with her ears flattened at the back of her head and head low.
You hate it when someone compares themselves to you and making you like an amazing person but in reality you're not, you sighed and continued cooking your breakfast and proceeds to eat it. After you're done you cleaned up and continue to prep yourself for todays training.
You made your way out of the tent and you immediately saw Neteyam with his dad the Olo'eyktan, You walked up to the two of them. Neteyam noticed you first and he greets you, Jake saw you as you greeted Neteyam and doing the same to you shortly after.
"Ready to train kids?" Jake asked earning a yes from Neteyam and a nod from you, Jake nodded back at the two of you and proceeds to run. You two caught up to him and you both looked at each other and smirked as the both of you knew that it will be hellish but enjoyable.
A few hours have passed and it was time for the two of you to train together, neither of you understand why you need to do it but the both of you complied because it was a direct order from Jake.
Neteyam suggested that the two of you will have a sparring session to evaluate your skills and critical thinking in battle and that led to the two of you heaving and gasping for air, Neteyam licked his bloodied lips and smirked while you wiped yours in a quick manner.
"Draw again? Shit" Neteyam whispered loud enough for you to hear. You smirked and ran up to him ready to stab him with a practice knife, he readied himself to block it but he realized he fucked up.
As soon as you saw him form his defense you let go of your knife distracting him for a moment, and that gives you enough time to get behind his back and body locked the shit out of him. It made him tap out and you let go of him, the two of you stayed on your own positions catching your breaths and relaxing the muscles in your body after that rigorous training you both had.
"That makes it 113 loses, 113 wins and 2 Draws for Me" you said while Neteyam's still laying down on top of you, after a few seconds he lifted himself up from you and sat down. You mimicked his movement and he turned to you.
"Damn that was pretty intense ain't it?" He said while containing his laughter, You chuckled in reply and just nodded. The two of you packed your things up and started to hunt for dinner.
After successfully hunting for dinner you both headed for your Camp in the forest, this is one of Jake's training for you and Neteyam. The purpose of this was for you to acquire survival skills in the wild, You prepare the logs for the bonfire for you to Neteyam to cook your food.
As soon as you started a fire you went to your tent and started to take a nap to get rest as you were the watcher for the night. A few minutes have passed and the Food Neteyam has cooked is done he went inside your tent and can't help but noticed how you look so pretty under the moonlight.
It highlights your sleeping frame specially your face, Neteyam blushed at your beauty and resisting the urge to hug you. He took a deep breath and he shook you awake, he watched you as you slowly wake up. "Is it done yet?" You drowsily asked, it took all of Neteyam's strength not to engulf you in a hug.
"Yeah let's eat" He shortly said and you just nodded in response, you made your way to the bonfire still half asleep. You two ate in silence and Neteyam went. to his tent as you were tonights watch, this is your favorite part of your training being alone in the night to keep watch for the both of you.
Ever since you were little you feel connected with the nature, you understand them and even the animals they're very fond of you specially the palulukan's, at your first encounter with it you were lost in the forest a few months after the Sully's took you in. You were having those little family bonding camps under the high camps and you accidentally wandered too far.

The Sully's decided to have a little camp under the hallelujah mountains to visit the forest, they involved you because there was no one who will look for you. You and Neteyam was tasked with collecting fruits for dinner and you accidentally wandered too far, you've forgotten your basket along the way and you were so scared.
That's when you saw a large palulukan and according to them it doesn't think and when it sees you it will bite your head clean off, you were scared and you cried in front of it. It lunges to you and you closed your eyes accepting your fate but you didn't die. It just sniffs you and grunted.
You opened your eyes and saw it face to face and it made you even scared, you reached out your small arms and looked away hoping that it would not eat your arms. It moves it' head forward to touch your hand and you immediately turned your head to look at it.
"Hi little Kwitty!" You shouted enthusiastically it motioned for you to get in it's back, "I'm Small kwitty, I can't weach you" It scoffed and lowered itself for you to use it's head as a leverage. You said your thanks and mounted it.
It walks toward the direction of the Sully's camp stopping at an area where you're familiar in, you felt it as if it was telling you that you already know how to go home. "Thank you little kwitty" you said as you dismounted it, it bows to you before taking off at the opposite direction.
"(Y/n)! Thank Eywa you're safe! We were worried sick! Did you get hurt?!" Asaylé said while checking your body for any scratches and injuries. "I thought I lost you (Y/n)" Neteyam said while looking sad. You went up to him and patted his head and said "I'm okay Nete I don't have Injuwy" And showed him your beaming smile. He hugged you and said "Don't ever do it again"

And here you are waiting for Neteyam to fall asleep so you could go for an adventure, after a few moments you peeked at his tent only to see him asleep and so you called for you kitty (Palulukan) and ordered for it to watch out for Neteyam as you would go for your amazing galore.
You silently ran deeper to the forest getting familiar with the surroundings as you left a mark on some of the trees, you were going to your favorite spot where you can have an alone time and see the beauty of the nature around you. Each and every beauty of your surroundings got you so mesmerized that you didn't notice a log in front of you causing you to fall face flat on the ground.
You laughed at your clumsiness and continued to wander deeper in the forest. Not noticing the traps of humans in the area, your feet was trapped and you yelped out loud. You heard them coming for you.
You closed your eyes hoping that Little Kitty will save you.
She will...
Right?

Neteyam Dragged Wo'kan by his hair throwing him further from your hut, you heard gasps of shock of the people and some screamed in horror. You went out of the hut and went up to them.
"Neteyam! Please don't do this, let us find another way" You pleaded so hard to Neteyam, you did not want to cause a scene at night. The omaticayan people are looking at the 3 of you wondering what happened that causes to trigger the rage of Toruk Makto's Son.
He proceeded to beat Wo'kan up earning more reaction from the people, as he picked his hair up and was about to throw another punch but the very person you hoped to not see you all like this has intervened.
"Son! What the hell are you doing!?" A familiar voice boomed in the middle of the commotion, you felt your blood run cold as the people made their way for the Olo'eyktan. As soon as you saw Jake's face you wanted to die.
Jake is angry and you all know shit is about to go down. "Answer me Boy!" He hissed as Neteyam Dropped Wo'kan and faced his father the anger and determination not faltering in his eyes.
"This fucker hurt (Y/n)! Look at her he -" Neteyam was cut off by Jake's punch at him, he managed to dodge it making Jake more angry. " Ma Jake no!" Neytiri stopped them both and she ran up to Jake calming him down.
"This issue is supposed to be handled by the two of them! You did not need to mess the business of a married people" He lectured his son in front of everybody.
"Sir, If you look at (y/n) very carefully, you could see that this is not the first time this piece of shit has hurt her!" Neteyam hissed at his father. Earning a glare from Neytiri seemingly to warn him on his tone and language.
"That's not all! He has the face to call her a SLUT! When he mated another woman before Eywa, (y/n) and I witnessed it all" He declared earning a reaction from the people.
"So what? Us Na'vi people can mate with different individuals Eywa allows this" Wo'kan said smirking at him, you looked at the ground when you saw the people agreeing with him.
"Not when they have their Tsaheylu's connected you stupid shit" Neteyam retorted back. Making Jake and Neytiri surprised, Neytiri Scowled at Wo'kan and she glanced at your way with pity evident in her face.
"Eywa is mad! Eywa Despises you" Neytiri hissed at Wo'kan and his stupid smirk disappeared, Jake was confused as he put his hand on Neytiri's shoulder. He proceeds to ask Neytiri why and she looked at him and whispered something.
Jake gave you a look of pity as Neytiri went infront of Wo'kan facing him, she sends him a death glare and gave him a slap after that she turns around to face all of the people.
"Listen to what I say! For Eywa has gave me a message, Mating with someone else with their Tsaheylu connected is hated by the Great mother! It causes the bond to break with them!" She yelled out while staring daggers at Wo'kan.
"The Olo'eyktan must bestow a punishment for the disgraces! Bring Ayn'at here" Neytiri ordered everyone to find Ayn'at, being the powerful tsahik she is. Ay'nat was found not even a minute after she gave the orders to the men.
She was forced to be with Wo'kan, she ran to him and hugged him but he disregards her and threw her to the ground. Ay'nat was humiliated in front of the clan earning a cry from her.
"Wo'kan will be killed as soon as the sun rises, he will be escorted by Neteyam, Nywak, (Y/n) and Me. It will be the same for Ayn'at too" When those words left his lips many gasped in shock.
Ayn'at stopped crying as she was passed out and as for Wo'kan he was shocked and he cannot utter a single word in this instance, he anted to defend himself but he knew he'll only put his situation in danger.
As the people started to get back inside their own perspective home, (Y/n) felt her heart break more as she saw Ayn'at and Wo'kan was taken away by some Na'vi, Neteyam ran up to you and dragged you to your own house.
He treated your wounds gently dabbing some ointments at your wounds while casually checking you if you're okay, you let out a sob as she feels a stinging pain in her cheek and neck.
"I'm sorry (Y/n) If I have known that you're gonna end up like this with him, I should've confessed my feelings to you a long time ago."
Neteyam Said while muttering the last bit. You blushed lightly and avoided eye contact with him, he continued treating your wounds bandaging your chest and waist.
"Rest now Tíyawn, we have some dead people to accompany at the morning. We don't want you passing out right?" He vocalized his worries as you nodded.
"Nete can you.. Uhm" You hesistated as you feel something was stuck on your throat, Neteyam was patient as he waited for you to gather your courage and continue your sentence while raising ang eyebrow.
You let out a deep sigh before continuing "Can you stay the night here, I may need someone by my side tonight". You looked away blushing not seeing Neteyam's amused face.
"But it's okay if you don't want to I'll understand" You quickly added ears folding back and tail swinging slowly side to side, He chuckled and then gave a nod "Guess I'm not going home tonight".
He laid down beside you and he put his hand around your waist as he pulled you closer to him, The warmth of his skin and the steady heartbeat of his calmed you down and eventually you let yourself get consumed by a deep slumber.

It was the faithful day that Wo'kan and Ayn'at was getting executed, you rode on your Ikran at the right side of Neteyam as the 2 Na'vi was on a net and is suspended in the air.
You saw Neteyam giving death glares at the 2 and it intimidated the both of them, Ayn'at cried and is screaming at you for ruining her life and she also mentioned how she's gonna kill you if she has the chance.
"Silence you two! Don't make me drop the both of you down" Jake shuts them up with his hiss, you felt slightly satisfied at the scenes that's playing in front of you.
A few minutes later all of you made it to the cliff where the 2 of them are to be executed, Ayn'at is still crying while Wo'kan is silent. Another Na'vi Undid their rope that binds their wrist and it left a mark on them.
All of a sudden Ayn'at Ran up to you and stole your knife from your chest and wrapped her arms around your neck, "Anyone who moves will get her killed" She exclaimed.
Neteyam hissed at her and she hissed back, "What are you doing Ayn'at? Stop it" Wo'kan attempted to stop her but she points your knife at him. "Shut up! It's because of you I'll be killed" She cried.
Wo'kan Clicked his tongue, Jake cautiously sneaked behind the two of you. He managed to get close to Ayn'at and disarmed the knife from her and forcing her to let you go.
"Stop it Let go of me!" She screamed in terror, at this point she began to cry hysterically. As he lined the two of them up preparing them for their death.
"Any Last words?" Jake Asked them, "No one will love you bitch" Wo'kan said earning a punch from Neteyam, Wo'kan only chuckled as he spat the blood from his mouth.
Jake made the 3 of you go to your own ikran's as he will execute the two of them himself, he thought that it eould be too much for you to see them die.
You were grateful to him as the 3 of you went ahead to the camp, you excused yourself from them as you wanted to get rest from all the drama that stirred up from earlier and Neteyam respected that.

"Neteyam, May I have a word to you?" Neytiri asked his son, she saw the way he tensed up for only a short moment and relaxed.
She knew that something is wrong with him and she is determined to know what it is, Neteyam faced her. He can't seem to meet the eyes of his mother as he was expecting a glare from her.
"Look at me in the eyes Son" She told her son, Neteyam Obediently did what she asked. She saw her son's pain through his eyes and his guilt as if there was something he's hiding. She wanted to test him.
"Tomorrow I will have to Arrange you to meet the Tsakarem of the neighboring clan, it is time for you to have a mate Neteyam it cannot wait any longer" Neytiri saw the sadness grew stronger on Neteyam's Eyes as she mentioned this.
"Mother I-" Neteyam stopped before he could finish his sentence, Neytiri Raised an Eyebrow "Tell me what is it?" She urges him to tell her.
There was a moment of silence as he saw her son contemplating on what he wanted to say, she can see him going through his mind and getting lost in reality.
"Do you have someone in mind?" She asked him.
"Is it (Y/n)?"

Crying out high up above the ground has unexpectedly made you feel better, you wiped your eyes and sadly looked at the night sky gazing the stars that shined beautifully in the sky. You can't help but notice that Eywa created this beauty, so why didn't she made you as BEAUTIFUL as the stars.
You laughed bitterly at the thought of it as it made you question your entire existence, what exactly was your purpose? All of the things you used to love is now something you hate.
The Pain continues to reside in your chest symbolizing that Wo'kan and Ayn'at were still mating, you know that Wo'kan has a great stamina when it comes to mating so you knew that you're gonna be in pain for HOURS.
Mating with someone else hurts their spouse, but mating with their Tsaheylu connected will bring a blinding pain in their mates. (Y/n) felt an immense pain all through out her body and she immediately knew that their tsaheylu was connected. You sat down and hugged your knees as you occasionally let out a pained whimper from the continuous pain your feeling.
Time has passed quickly and you didn’t know how long has it been and it seems that Wo’kan and Ayn’at wasn’t done yet from their session.
She has resented her shitty life, all she wanna do is trade this life for something new as she was constantly holding on to what (Y/n) haven't got. With that thought she ran towards the end of the rock and let her body drop down ready to die and begin again.
"Oh Great Mother please make my next life not miserable" She voiced out as she watched the night sky while free falling, it helped her calm down and embrace the feeling of death.

You were free falling from the sky when all of the sudden you felt someone catch your body, you opened your eyes only to see Neteyam staring down at you with a worried look plastered on his face. He embraced your body tighter seemingly not wanting to let you go.
His ikran swooped down and landed near a cliff, as soon as his ikran landed he dismounted from it while carrying your body bridal style, you cried on his chest as he laid you down in a soft mos, he laid his hand on your shoulders and the other under your chin and he made you look at him.
His worried look was quickly replaced by an angry look, “What the hell (Y/n)! What were you thinking?! Do you want to kill yourself?!” He yelled at you. You flinched and whimpered at his harsh tone, he took notice of this and his hard gaze switched back into his worried look.
“Tell me (Y/n) Ma Yawne, why did you do it?” He whispered, you closed your eyes and pulled yourself out from his embrace. “Why do you care?! From what I remember you’re one of the reasons why my life was miserable?! All of you never see me!” You yelled. Neteyam looked down disappointed in himself.
“You all used me, treated me like I was nothing, if you want to help me just forget the wrongs that I’ve done and help me leave behind some reasons to be missed. I’m hurting Neteyam, My mate is mating with someone else with their Tsaheylu connected. I’m in great pain please end it, just kill me.” You said while looking straight into his eyes.
He engulfed you in a hug and whispered in your ears. “ I always see you (Y/n), I’m sorry for making your life miserable, I have always loved you you just didn’t see it. I felt my world crash down when I saw you and Wo’kan has mated “
He broke the hug and connected his forehead to yours. “ Let me help you throughout your pain, let me be the one to be your mate. Break all of your ties with him.” You took a deep breath as it seems that your mate is done with their session.
"Just let me cry a little longer Nete" You sadly said to him as he cradles you in his arms. You felt him brush his hands on your hair calming you.
seconds turns to minutes and minutes turned to hours, you two completely lost track of time. You looked at neteyam and said.
" Thank you Nete for helping me and saving me " He replied with a nod and warmly smiled at you.
"I will beat that asshole for doing this to you" He growled while his eyes darken you sighed and got up, you asked him to bring you to your home. He agreed as he motioned you to mount his ikran and you obliged, as soon as you sat on his ikran he flew towards home.
He dropped you near your home and you thanked him once again for saving your life, he winked at you and proceeds to walk towards his tent.

"Where the fuck did you go?! You fucking slut! Being this late at night with another man" he spits at your face and proceeds to throw you across your bedroom. You choked and gasped for air.
As soon as you went inside your tent you felt yourself being lifted up by your throat. You felt your air ways getting blocked by your assaulter, you expected him to be with Ayn'at the whole night.
"You Disgusting Woman! Fuck you!" He yelled while beating you to pulp. You let out a loud whimper from the pain you're feeling while hoping for Neteyam to save you, you felt him getting on top of you and he choked you as you saw him wanting to kill you.
"You know I mated with Ayn'at she was fucking delicious, how I never wanted it to end" He smirked while choking the life out of you.
He proceeds to tell you what happened on their mating session detail by detail while choking you, you felt tears forming on your eyes and he laughed maniacally.
"Aww the slut is crying now" He mocked you, "Die for me my useless wife. DIE" He slowly tightened his grip on your throat. You were losing consciousness you didn't want to die in the hands of your Ex Lover.
You saw another blue hands pushing him off of you, you felt the grip on your throat left you and you breathe out rapidly to catch some air. As you were gasping Wo'kan and Neteyam were fighting each other.
They're exchanging punches with each other and eventually Neteyam being the best in combat he overpowers Wo'kan and has him in a body lock. Neteyam was choking Wo'kan kind of like what he did to you. You saw the rage in Neteyam's eyes and how he would not hesitate in killing him.
"STOP IT PLEASE" You yelled at them, and you saw Neteyam regained his sanity and drop Wo'kan on the ground. He looks at you and went up to check you.
"Are you okay?" you nodded and he let his breath go in relief, he helped you get up and at the same time Wo'kan got up as well. Your ex-husband darkly chuckled and wiped the blood on his cheek, "You're My stupid wife's lover huh? Just wait and see how much of a whore she is! SHE WILL COME BACK TO ME AND I'LL BEAT HER ALL OVER AGAIN"
He exclaimed and that got Neteyam furious, "You motherfucker!" Neteyam sucker punched him in the stomach and it got Wo'kan Writhing in pain leaving his braid exposed. Neteyam grabbed Wo'kan's Braid and dragged him outside of your home.
"Neteyam! Stop it please!" You pleaded for Neteyam to stop but he just looked at you and said "He deserves this for doing horrible things to you (Y/n). Do not stop me".
His warning gave sent chills on your skin as you wondered how far would Neteyam would willingly go for you? Those are the last thoughts in your head before all shit went down.

Stupid
Fiasco
Disappointment
Good for nothing
Failure
Bluff
Fake
Dull
Those are the words that best describes you, You're considered as the Black Sheep of your family. They've never recognized any of your personal achievements, even when you became one of the people they were never there to support you THEY NEVER CARED ABOUT YOU.
You were not entirely useless, you were Neteyam's RIVAL You hate him to the core. Mainly because you always get compared with him in terms of Fighting and Hunting. He was neither kind nor mean to you he was a balance, he always look at you with a straight face and talking to you in a nonchalant manner further destroying your self esteem.
When you found your Mate Wo'kan he was the best thing that happened to you, he was the only one who cared about you and treats you gentle and kind. He was the exact opposite of your parents his touch was full of love and is being considerate of your feelings. Unlike your so called family who do nothing but beat you and is always scolding and insulting you.
This was the time that Neteyam begins to act like a dick around you always playing pranks, Becoming overly competitive, Insulting you and casually shot glares in your way a couple of times. He made your life a living hell, it was a bittersweet moment in your life as you have mated with Wo'kan infront of Eywa and you two have lived together.
You were finally able to freely breathe without being cautious in your surroundings, you experienced being loved and you'll be lying if you said that it didn't changed you. It made you become brighter and optimistic about life, you and Wo'kan was inseparable and is leading a happy life for what it seems for forever.
Because that's how it's suppose to be right? Being Mates means loving each other eternally, that was what you thought. One night Wo'kan went home late at night you had asked him where he was and what happened to him to go home so late at night but he ignored you, it hurts you when he's not paying attention to you when you're talking to him as it brings many bad memories from your past.
You decided to let it go and ask him tomorrow morning what happened, that specific night made you feel cold on your joint bed. When you woke up in the morning your mate was no where to be seen and it made you feel down, but you sucked it up and thought that he will be back to normal later on in the day.
How you were so wrong about that he went home late AGAIN but he was drunk this time. "Paskalin, What happened to you?" You worriedly asked him but he just grabbed a fistful of your hair and you let out a loud yelp of pain while grabbing his hand that is on your hair.
"Shut the fuck up Snumina muntxate" He said with venom lacing his voice, you widened your eyes you couldn't believe that your beloved husband was saying those things to you. Was it the influence of alcohol? You thought, as you were about to speak he suddenly gave you a harsh slap across your right cheek.
"Words don't shut you up huh? Perhaps my fist will" He spat those words to you before beating you up, he punched you everywhere and left you curling into a ball and then proceeds to kick you. He ab^sed you until the sun has risen up, you feel your body aching and asked Eywa why did she make your life so miserable.
You hoped to Eywa that this will be the first and the last time that this will happen, little did you know that this was one of the many beatings you will take from him. You don't know what to do honestly going back to your parents house was never the option as they will criticize you about how you're still a failure beig a wife.
Every beatings took a toll in your body forming bruises everywhere making hunting hard for you, Neteyam noticed your bruises and proceeds to question you about it. You made up a lame excuse about you being clumsy and falling down a tree when climbing it up for picking a medical herb for your ointments.
Neteyam was suspicious at your lame excuses knowing you almost rival him in terms of combat and flexibilty but he didn't pushed it any further and proceeds to continue the hunt, and as usual the two of you competes but because of your bruised body from your husband's beating you were 2 kills behind Neteyam and he gave you a teasing smirk causing yiu to get angry.
He was getting worried about you seeing you with new bruises every time you hunt with them, and you were getting weaker and thinner. one time before the hunting session he pulled you to a secluded area and begin to question if your excuses were true and since you don't want to ruin your relationship with Wo'kan you said that you're fine and all of your excuses were true.
Neteyam loves you, not as a rival or a friend but as a lover but yiu were too stupid to know that. You were head over heels for Wo'kan, it was one of the reasons why he doesn't have a mate yet he knew that the right time will come but he doesn't know when it will happen.
There was a celebration of the clan as 2 more young boys have become an adult, your husband Wo'kan warned you beforehand to not do anything stupid or he'll kill you for real. And by warn I mean beat you.
You got a wound on your lips from his punch and you covered it with ointment before going out to follow him. You saw him with a beautiful Na'vi Ayn'at, she was everything a man would look for and sadly despite being your mate Wo'kan is a man too. A mated one. You saw how they interact with each other you're stupid in love but you're not stupid enough to understand what was going on between them.
All your worries turned true and all the questions lingering in your mind were answered, Wo'kan was having an affair with Ayn'at. You feel a stab on your heart as you felt the feeling of pain eating you away as you stare at the two, tears began to well on your eye but you blinked it away and then ran to the Tree of Souls.
You connected with Eywa with your tsaheylu and you began to speak out all of the pain you feel in your heart.
"Ma Eywa why are you doing this to me? Do you not love me? Do you not favor me as the others? Ever since I was little all I ever felt was pain. Is this my Fate? Am I destined to live my life this way?" You silently cried to Eywa as your voice cracked at the end. You cried your heart out but you heard a twig snapped, you opened your eyes and hid between some trees.
What you saw made your eyes widened and made your heart feel way worse than it was already feeling, you saw your BELOVED HUSBAND and AYN'AT holding hands together and smiling. They looked so happy together like the two of you in the past. They began to kiss each other and feel each other, you know what they were about to do.
They were about to mate before Eywa, Your eyes widened and as finally tears fell down from your cheeks and the constant stabbing of pain in your chest increases. When a mated Na'vi has mated someone else before Eywa, their partner feels the opposite of what they're feeling. If they feel pleasure of someone else their mate feels pain.
Your heart ached more and more as you began to hear their cries of pleasure from feeling each other. You couldn't take it anymore the pain was becoming unbearable each second you hear their voices, you silently made your way back to your favorite spot where you and Neteyam held your first Competition. The Hallelujah Mountains.
As you landed you've thought about jumping and ending your life but you remained strong. you curled yourself to a soft moss on the rock and cried your heart out, you wondered why Eywa is doing this to you. She really doesn't love you huh?
All the talk of the Natives about finding your mate and finding love seems fake, it all gives you the feeling of...

His Secret Admirer (Part Three) - Neteyam x fem na’vi reader
part one part two
4.3k Word Count✨
here is the well awaited pt 3, I didn’t know it could get more angst-y than it already has but boy I was wrong. the next part will be the final part to the series, prepare for sh!t to go down y’allll 😗
contains: soft + angsty neteyam, lots of emotions so buckle up fr, some language (not much at all), familial conflict
“~~” resembles a time skip or a POV change
_______________________________
Neteyam rarely got angry. But after witnessing Eyiti purposely say what she did to hurt your feelings, he felt anger bubble deep in the pit of his stomach. He so badly wanted to chase after you as he watched you walk away, but he couldn’t risk having her run to tell her parents that the olo’eyktan’s son had disrespected her. This was what he faced on the daily, people holding his future over his head with no regard of how high he had to jump just to get it back. He was trying his hardest to keep his parents in a good mood, so when he would tell them about you they would be less inclined to deny his pleas and actually hear him out. If he went after you, it would squash all of his hopes of ever being yours. He whipped his head around to face the unapologetic girl in front of him, not being able to conceal his repugnance.
“Why did you do that?” He spoke through gritted teeth, jerking his arm away to remove her grimy mitt from his skin. “I did not promise you anything. My parents do not speak for me.” He brushed his arm, trying to expunge the feeling of her touch.
“Oh, but I think they do ‘Teyam.” She cooed with a pout that was far from genuine to shield the smug that lied behind her lips. “They said you’d talk to my parents, so that’s what you’re going to do. Unless, you want me to go and tell my father about your little girlfriend. And now that I think about it, I don’t even think I heard your parents mention her. Is that allowed?” She already knew the answer, her question was only a threat.
Everything began to add up in his mind. Why her behavior would change so suddenly- trying her hardest to gain his attention conveniently at the time you would come around. He had never once felt the urge to injure a woman, and he still didn’t, but he was definitely tempted to tag Kiri in on this conversation and support whatever method of action she chose to take.
He wished he could have told you in that moment that being her date was never his idea. But he was just as stunned, it hadn’t even been brought up to him before Eyiti revealed the information in front of the two of you. There his parents went again, making decisions for him knowing he would have no choice but to follow through. His heart felt like it had been stomped on, even more so at the thought of how badly you were hurting right now. He had no intention of leading you on, and you probably hated him for doing just that, even if it were accidental. In fact, he planned on agreeing to the Ikran ride, taking the two of you somewhere you wouldn’t be disturbed and asking you to be his date to the festival. But everything went to shit, like usual.
He exhaled sharply, biting his tongue to keep himself from saying anything that would have this brat running to make his life more of a living hell than it was already becoming. He dodged Eyiti’s attempt at grabbing his hand to lead him along, shooting her a piercing glare. If looks could kill, the village would be planning her funeral right about now. “I can walk just fine on my own. And stop calling me that.”
He entered her family’s home with as much respect as he could muster, grudgingly taking a seat once realizing his parents had already arrived. There was nothing he could do to stall this any longer. He kept his stare avoidant, anything to distract him from the conversation at hand. There was a drastic amount of space between him and Eyiti on the mat, which Jake had not failed to realize. The voices around him sounded like they were underwater as he tuned them out. He toyed with the intricate details on his armband while they spoke, all he could think about was how this was the last place he wanted to be. His mind was anywhere else but here. The image of you talking with Ta’olu reappeared in his mind like clockwork, regardless of how many times he tried to erase it.
“Neteyam?” Neytiri’s voice repeated for the third time, sending him a warning glance once noticing he was out of it before she proceeded. “Do you agree with the date chosen for your ceremony?”
No, absolutely not. He didn’t agree with the date chosen, he didn’t even agree with the woman chosen.
Eyiti never paid him mind years ago until the day she found out what he would grow up to be. She looked at him like a piece of meat and he knew it. Not that he ever craved her attention; when she would speak he would simply imagine she was someone else. You were the only girl in the clan who saw him for who he truly was. Just a man wanting to fall in love like everybody else. Was that so bad?
Neteyam abruptly rose up from where he sat and cleared his throat, effectively cutting the conversation short with an unexpected answer. “I am sorry, I refuse to mate with Eyiti. I will only accompany her to the festival, as that has been promised by my parents. But no one other than me will have a say in who will have my heart.”
The mouths of everyone in the room fell to the floor but Neteyam stood strong on his declaration, excusing himself from the conversation and walking out of the tent- leaving Eyiti as stunned and embarrassed as she had made you feel earlier. Jake and Neytiri immediately rose to go after him, apologizing for his change of behavior as much as they could while her parents consoled their daughter who was now sobbing dramatically.
He didn’t want to accompany her to the festival at all, but declining her as a mate, and forcing his parents to meet someone new all in one day was probably not the best idea. His plan was to show up with Eyiti, then ditch her in roughly ten minutes after her parents saw them together, slip out unnoticed and find you. He’d have to get Tuk in on the plan to serve as a distraction, which shouldn’t be too difficult for him. Neteyam was a stickler for being a gentleman, but he couldn’t care less about that witch’s feelings.
His legs were sent into a slight run-walk as Jake forced him into their family home by the back of his neck. He sighed and pushed a hand through his hair before turning around to face his father who was nearly red in the face, already knowing what was next to come.
“What the hell is wrong with you? Do you have any idea how much you’ve embarrassed us? Our entire family? In front of the parents of the woman who is supposed to be your mate?” He yelled a string of questions, his finger pointed out of their tent to clarify exactly what he was referring to. His eldest son stood unamused. Silent and withdrawn. His physical body was here, but his mental was somewhere unknown. His head was turned to the side, his face not even so much as flinching at his father’s words. He simply laughed to himself, dropping his head towards the floor and mumbling incomprehensible sentences to himself.
“And what are you laughing at? Which part of this is funny to you?” Neytiri chimed in, looking at him with such disbelief it would have hurt his feelings, had he found the will to care. There was no more approval he strived to seek from his parents.
“Answer your mother when she’s speaking to you, boy.” Jake growled, Neteyam’s ears perking up.
“I am not a boy.” His eyes shot up, challenging his father with zero hesitation in his tone. Neteyam had it to his wits end with his parents trying to control every aspect of his life. Elder or not, he was no longer going to let them have a say in who he chose to love or how he chose to live his life. “You heard what I said.” His accent was apparent. “I will not mate with that woman. And I will not apologize for loving another, my heart belongs to [Y/n].” He stated strongly, lifting his chin to indicate confidence in his decision.
Neytiri blinked in astonishment, her voice sputtering while she tried to find a way to continue the conversation with words instead of knocking him over his head. “And what makes you think we will allow you to mate with someone we do not know? Someone we have not deemed fit for you? This girl will be Tsahik, Neteyam!” She hissed.
This. This was the issue. His parents were so concerned about status in the clan that they let it overshadow their own son’s right to happiness.
“I have tried so many times to tell you! She is special, I swear it. You guys won’t listen to me.” He extended his hands to the pair in a pleading motion, his voice growing louder with each word he spoke and a slight crack in his pitch giving away how much this was all starting to affect him. “Dad wasn’t even one of the people when the two of you mated, it went against everything the clan knows. You cannot judge me. And I couldn’t care less about this stupid title. You can give it to Lo’ak, for all I care.” He spat, leaving them right where they stood and storming out of their home.
He was right, whether they wanted to admit it or not. Jake wasn’t a real na’vi when he first arrived, he was an avatar driver with an aborted mission. Neytiri was promised to another, but went against her parents and mated with him anyway. They both went against the rules because their love for each other was so strong, just as he was now. How could his own parents blame him for wanting to find true love just as they did?
“Neteyam!” Neytiri gasped, both her hands coming up to cover her mouth and tears forming in her eyes.
Jake immediately turned to comfort her, pulling her into a firm hug and rubbing her shoulders. “He doesn’t mean that, I know he doesn’t. He’s just upset, I’ll talk to him.” He held her as she cried into his chest, wanting to go after Neteyam but knowing he couldn’t leave his wife alone after what had transpired.
By the time Jake had soothed Neytiri and ran out after his son, he had already set out into the air on his Ikran without another word spoken.
Neteyam soared through the purple-tinted ski aimlessly, allowing the bond with the animal to reach deep into his heart and figure out where to take him. He winced at the thought of how he had addressed his mother, the look on her face after what he said. He was fed up and couldn’t stand to argue any longer, his voice was not being heard no matter how loud he spoke and it had pushed him well over the edge. By the time he realized what he was saying, it was too late to take it back and the damage had already been done. He felt the innate urge to turn around, to run to his mother and apologize. But he was tired of doing the right thing all the time. For once in his life he just wanted to be able to make a mistake like everybody else could without it seeming like the end of the world.
His father’s voice calling his name could be heard through the speaker connected to the neckpiece they all wore for communication. He curled his lips in annoyance, hooked two fingers under the band and snapped it off his neck with ease. He pitched it into the air without another thought, letting it fall to the ground below him. He had no idea where it landed and he couldn’t care less. He didn’t want to be bothered anymore.
He allowed the wind to flow through his braids, the cold, crisp air hitting his cheek and helping in keeping him grounded. After what felt like a short journey, his Ikran slowed and prepared to land in the open field by the Tree of Souls- a place for prayers to be heard. He eyed the giant willow tree, ignoring the heavy weight in his chest. He dismounted from the bird, gently pulling his braid to break tsaheylu and smoothing a hand up its rough back, followed by a tender pat to calm its spirit. He hadn’t been here since his parents brought him to visit the ancestors, when he was younger. There had been nothing he wanted enough to call upon Eywa for, and his duties rendered him far more busy than he had expected, which left almost no time for a casual visit.
He trailed a hand along the delicate, elongated tendrils of the tree as he walked- taking a brief looking around to make sure he was alone before he slowly lowered himself to the ground. He reached over his shoulder to pull the long braid from behind his back, taking hold of one of the tree’s branches in his other hand. He watched closely as his queue reached for the branch, wrapping itself around and making the connection that would allow Eywa to hear his pleas. He could feel the intense spiritual energy coarse through his veins, allowing him to let his guard down.
His head lowered and his eyes came to a close. He had so much to say but didn’t know how to phrase it, didn’t know how to start. Neteyam was not familiar in asking for things, let alone help. He was always made to do everything himself, made to figure it out on his own like a true leader. Every moment in his life boiled down to preparation for what was yet to come, so much that he didn’t even know how to handle the emotions that would arise in the present. He was constantly running, motivation carrying him forward. But now he questioned the purpose of the race entirely. Had he ever stopped to ask himself if this was what he wanted?
“Eywa, I have come to you to ask for help, if you’ll have me.” He started, his voice merely a whisper as he continued. “I don’t know what to do.”
Going against his parents was ultimately going against everything he knew. It felt wrong. Forbidden. But giving up on his feelings for you felt even worse. At this point he didn’t care what would happen, he’d bare with having his potential title stripped from him if it meant he could spend the rest of his life with you by his side.
His eyes shut tightly in attempt to stop the tears he dreaded welcoming. His throat burned and a lump began to form that felt nearly impossible to swallow. He didn’t want to cry, not after he had tried so hard not to. He hadn’t in years, and he knew if he allowed himself to break down in this moment it would only lead to bringing up every other emotion he had succeeded in bottling up for so long.
Neteyam’s shoulders began to shudder and he shook his head in resistance at the shiver that struck through his body, but ultimately failed at putting up a fight. A sob finally erupted from his trembling lips and he brought his free hand up to shield his face, as if he were afraid someone would see him in such a vulnerable state. He sat in the bioluminescent flora around him, simply allowing himself to cry, something he hadn’t been able to do in years. The pressure of being the perfect son had finally gotten to him. He was aware from time that it was slowly creeping up, taking an immense toll on his mental health and he tried his best to outrun it. A slight miscalculation on his end, you can never outrun the inevitable. He had never expected it to break him down in such a way, his body physically feeling weak and hopeless. He was completely conflicted, knowing it was always best to follow his heart but it went against his coding to disappoint his parents.
He felt the presence of Eywa and his ancestors calm him, the pace of his breathing gradually returned to normal and the beating of his heart followed soon after. He wiped his face dry with the backside of his hand, regaining his composure while gathering the will to carry on with his prayer. “I have never asked anything of you until now, because nothing has ever meant more to me than this. Until I met her, I hadn’t known the true meaning of happiness, what it felt like to be alive. And now, we’ve found our way back into each other’s lives and I cannot let her go. Not again.” He felt an ache deep in his chest, fearful that even saying these words out loud would turn them into reality.
“I fear that I have disappointed my parents greatly. I said some things I am not proud of, and I am not sure if I can take back the damage they have caused.” He sighed, his eyes opening and his head raising to peer at the sky above him. “I know she is special. I don’t know what it is, but I can feel it, deep in my bones.” With his hand placed over his chest, it balled into a fist against his skin and he begged with everything he had left in him.
“Please, allow them to see her the way I do.”
~
Had it not been for your mother that day, you don’t know what you would’ve done. The walk back to your tent was unforgiving as you tried to hide the tears that were forming once more, not out of sorrow, but of pure disgust. The speed in which you declined Ta’olu’s invitation was utterly comical. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t consider it for a second, but all the faith you had in his proposal died as soon as you found out he was only inviting you to make the same girl he ditched you for in the past, jealous. You wished you hadn’t even stopped to give him the time of day because the whole encounter only made you feel worse.
You pushed through the fabric that served as a doorway to your home and crossed the distance that separated you from your mother, sinking to your knees and tears flowing from your eyes when she wrapped her arms around you without question. “I’m too late, Mama.” You hiccuped. Your tears felt like acid on your cheeks and it hurt to even speak. You hated crying, especially over something like this. The entire process of being upset, realizing your emotions, then having to find an outlet to rid them- revolted you.
“What happened?” Your mother looked down at you, her eyebrows furrowed with concern and a hint of apprehension. Her head moved to the side with an understanding sigh when your crying picked up at the nature of her question, resting her cheek against the top of your head and stroking your hair. She quietly shushed you, rubbing your back to aid in comfort. Your fervent emotions shrouded your will to elaborate.
You sniffled, inhaling a pathetically shaky breath and forcing your voice to come together and make words after a bit. “I’m too late. He’s found someone else.” Saying it out loud to her made it all the more real. You couldn’t stop your heart from clenching when you admitted the truth to her. In all your years of loving him, your mother had never had you come to her with anything he had done that wasn’t positive.
She slowly pulled away from your embrace, but only to look into your eyes as you spoke. She needed to make sure for herself that she was hearing this correctly. “No… How? The two of you were just together only two days ago.” She sounded as dumbfounded as you felt.
“Eyiti,” You shook your head, wiping the tears that had fallen without your permission off your face with the heel of your hand, annoyed at the fact that more appeared no matter how hard you tried to settle yourself. “She’s his date to the festival tomorrow. He’s probably talking to her parents about it right now.” Your voice got quieter, your shoulders slumping down as you sulked and studied the palms of your hands- staring at the lines etched into your skin as a getaway from your feelings.
Your eyes shot up when you heard your mother breath out a sigh, it almost sounded like she was *relieved*. She quickly geared up to explain once the expression on your face became one of slight betrayal and confusion.
She shook her head and laughed quietly, “There is still time, [Y/n]. Her being his date does not mean they are promised to one another. But it very well could, if you do not take your chance tomorrow.” She used her thumbs to clean the tears that had rolled down the side of your face, cupping it in her hands afterwards. “Did you bring what is needed?” Her eyes were soft and seeing her calm expression somehow helped you in doing the same.
“Yes, I…” You blinked to clear your vision, opening your mouth to speak but settling for a nod of your head. The small bag was brought around to your front, holding it open so she could see inside.
A grin from her was all that was required to strike you with the ambition you didn’t know you had left.
Your fingers were sore to the touch and swollen after hours of carving the marbles and stones you had found into small beads. The process was intricate and painstaking. It required delicate hands and utmost patience. Had you tried to speed up the process you were at risk of cracking the material directly in half, rendering it useless. And after doing just that almost three times while trying to rush through, you had absolutely no more room for error.
You used a thin twine to weave the beads together, crocheting intricate rows of stitches between the material to hold it together, making a clasp that would be easy for him to take on and off on his own. Your mom had taught you how to make jewelry and garments years ago, you eventually surpassed her in skill. You hadn’t the desire or need to make something for a while, but the talent you possessed remained. You constructed his gift with unbelievable precision, your eyes strained from barely taking time to blink. But you were still incredibly nervous that it wouldn’t be to his liking.
Unknown to you, Neteyam loved everything you did, even if it was as simple as breathing.
You couldn’t thank your mom enough for helping you with this. She had given you a deadpan look the tenth time you expressed gratitude, so you figured ten was a good number to settle on. You felt silly even asking, so you were more than appreciative that she had offered. At first, it was hard for you to understand why she had been so supportive. Then she explained to you that when she were head over heels for your father, she had no one to lean on but herself, not even her own mother. She was more than willing to help her daughter win over the one she loved, because all she wanted was to see you happy.
Eclipse had long passed, the sun tucking itself away after a job well done and the moon announcing its arrival with how the night now encapsulated the village. The necklace was finally complete. One could tell how much effort went into it just by looking at it, it was beautiful. The beads were varying shades of brown, orange, and red- Neteyam’s favorite colors to wear. You honestly had no idea why you decided on still making it, without even knowing how this whole thing would play out at that. There was a small part of you that feared it would go to waste after what you witnessed earlier, but there was an even bigger part of you that since rediscovered the hope you previously lost.
How dark it had become outside skated past you without notice until you finally looked up from the spot your eyes were locked on since this afternoon. The both of you had even skipped dinner just to make sure you finished in time for tomorrow.
“How are you even still sitting like this?” You collapsed backwards with a exhale of great fatigue, your eyes fluttering closed against your will and your back crying out in relief. You knew hunching over in the same exact spot would hurt, but you had no idea you’d come out of it feeling a hundred years older than you already were. “Do you think he will like it?” You mumbled, sleepiness hurriedly overtaking you.
By the time your mother turned to respond, an array of faint snores could be heard. Had you not been so exhausted, you would’ve awoken at the sound of her laughing due to your mouth hanging open obnoxiously. She smiled at you with nothing but endearment, gingerly lifting your head to slip a cushion under and draping a light blanket over your body that was now curled into a fetal position- a mindless endeavor to seek warmth. She leaned down to kiss your temple, pushing a few braids from your face so they wouldn’t disrupt you. “He will love it.” She whispered.

His Secret Admirer - Neteyam x fem na’vi reader
—————————————————————————————
6.7k Word Count ✨
part two part three
Welcome to my Neteyam X reader series! This first part is kind of a slow burn to establish the plot so there is not much action as I hate when things are rushed. But it is cute and a bit fluffy 🤭 The events of The Way of Water never happened in this series, so this is based in the forest. Enjoy!
Neteyam is 19, reader is 18 in this series.
contains: slight fluff, as little use of y/n as possible, very minor mention of 🪦 (one time)
—————————————————————————————
For as long as you could remember, you had the biggest crush on Neteyam Sully.
You couldn’t help it. He was the sweetest man in the entire clan and he acted much differently from the others. Never cocky, never boastful. It made your heart skip a beat just thinking about how he had always unapologetically been him - a genuine sweetheart and over protective from the start.
The two of you were not strangers, in fact, his presence was quite familiar to you. Throughout your younger years he would protect you from the harsh words of the other kids after witnessing you being bullied the first time. Upon finding out you spent most of your time alone and had no friends, he invited you to hang around him and his siblings with a promise of belonging. You hadn’t realized what an honor that was until you got older.
His brother and sister, Lo’ak and Kiri, quickly took a liking to you and became the friends you never had. But unfortunately for you and Neteyam, the progression of your story was cut short. As the years passed his schedule became bombarded with training duties, leaving him busy basically 24/7 and eventually causing your friendship to become less of a priority. You were hurt, but you had to understand it wasn’t personal. Once he got to a certain age, his parents allowed him to have fun and hang out with kids his age less and less; giving him constant reminders of the shoes he would grow to fill. Apparently, he had to spend every living and breathing moment training for a position you weren’t even sure he actually wanted.
Growing up, your mother told you that crushes were very simple and lighthearted. Something that was meant to make your heart flutter and your cheeks rosy. But having a crush on Neteyam was actually the exact opposite. This was Jake Sully’s son we were talking about. Girls fawned over him everyday, rightfully so. But watching them trail closely behind him as if he were metal and them magnets made your heart pang with jealousy. You knew you would never have a chance, and even if you did, there were probably so many other girls above you on the imaginary list that already had his attention. He would surely never make it down to your name once it came time for him to choose a mate.
Loving him was like yearning for something you didn’t even know existed. It was like opening your mouth to speak but remembering you didn’t have a voice to use. You weren’t a hunter or a healer, you couldn’t sing and you most definitely were not the beauty queen of the clan. You weren’t anything special, so how could you ever think you had a chance to call him yours?
“Nete-yammm” A gorgeous, tall na’vi giggled with a sing song tone, reaching out to caress any area of his body that didn’t already have a three fingered hand touching it. You cringed at the sound of her voice. That was Eyiti, the daughter of an amazing healer in your clan and probably first on his list to be his Tsahik. You absolutely loathed her, the way her eyelashes batted in his direction and how her stride became flirtatious when he was around to make the long braid that covered her queue sway side to side.
You definitely had your reasons for disliking her, one of them being that when you all were younger she had purposely tripped you and caused you to faceplant in the mud right in front of Neteyam. He had so much faith in everyone that he hadn’t even seen her foot conveniently stick out in front of you when you excitedly walked towards him. Before he could reach an arm out to help you up his dad had whisked him away, reminding him he had responsibilities he needed to tend to and at this point girls were the least of his worries.
“Is there anything we can do for you? Do you need your hair re-braided? A massage maybe?” The group asked, snapping you out of your bitter flashback when multiple different voices chirped, taking turns to offer him favors. You watched them swarm around him like vultures, his eyes searching for a way out of the circle.
“Yes, perhaps a massage! Your muscles must be sooo sore from your hunt yesterday.” Yet another voice chimed in, she literally looked like she wanted to eat the flesh off his bones and you rolled your eyes in annoyance. Why couldn’t they just leave him alone?
“Neteyam! Are you hungry? I can make something good for you to eat. You need all the energy you can get for your training later, right?”
“No!” Another na’vi woman hissed, latching onto one of his toned arms and hugging it. She almost knocked him over with the force that came from her launching herself at him. You watched him stumble to the side a bit, his stance awkward and stiff as his cheeks flushed due to all the overwhelming attention. Jeez, was she trying to hug his arm or rip it off his body to take it home with her? You didn’t know but honestly you wouldn’t be surprised if that was her intention, these women were insane. They looked like little girls fighting over a doll with the way they were pulling him back and forth by his biceps.
“Girls, please” He spoke softly and forced a smile on his face in attempt to not hurt their feelings, or worse; make them more hostile than they already were. “I am okay, really. I do not need any of you to do anything for me other than enjoy your day. You all are…” he paused before continuing, “very beautiful and nice women but I truly must be going, I cannot be late for my meeting with my father.”
The mention of a discussion of the future with his father earned many dreamy sounding sighs from his personal fan club.
Your face grew hot when you noticed his eyes look up at you, seemingly begging for help with an almost panicked smile on his face. You pressed your lips together to stifle your laugh, then raised your hands in surrender on either side of your head to silently communicate to him that he was indeed on his own with this. You knew he’d be alright seeing as he dealt with this almost daily, but you also knew he was growing tired of it. Poor Neteyam was too nice to hurt their feelings, but even if you tried to help him what could you do? They’d probably tear you apart if you walked up and attempted to steal him away from their grasp. You sure as hell weren’t going to draw attention to yourself by intervening.
Thankfully for him, you heard Neytiri’s sharp voice yell his name from a different direction, causing the girls around him to jump and straighten up in fear of our Tsahik witnessing them behave in such a shameful manner. And from the sound of his mother’s voice- he was definitely late for that meeting. His ears perked up in alert but the expression on his face only showed relief due to her timely save.
“Gotta go girls!” He exclaimed with haste, sounding more excited now than he had their entire interaction. You sighed to yourself and gave him a subtle wave with a gentle smile, watching him take the extra second he didn’t have to smile back at you before he slipped through the small crowd and damn near sprinted to safety.
Your smile grew bigger as you watched him escape, soaking in the way his eyes had previously just held contact with yours for longer than they needed to. A daydream would have washed over you had you not felt the glares of his desperate admirers trying to burn holes through your head. You cleared your throat to break the awkward silence and swiftly turned on your heels, realizing it probably wasn’t the best idea to continue standing there if you valued your life.
~ a few hours later ~
Eclipse had now envelloped a previously sunny day, stealing the sky away and taking the sun’s place for the rest of the night. You sat with your mom on the floor of your hut, just having finished a wonderfully made dinner. “Mama, would you like help with the dishes?” You knew better than to excuse yourself before offering your assistance.
“No no, child. Go on, I know you want to take as much time as you possibly can before it gets late.” She smiled up at you and shooed you out with her hand, the wrinkles creased next to her eyes served in reminding you of how grateful you were to have had your mother by your side all these years.
“Yes mama, thank you.” Nodding your head, you at least stacked the dishes into each other to help as much as you could before you thanked her, quickly standing up from where the two of you were kneeling on the floor.
Your mother quietly laughed to herself at your excitement as you skipped to the doorway, surprised at how you didn’t trip over your own two feet as you gathered your things. You pushed through the curtains that served as a doorway to your home and once stepping foot outside, you felt your lungs expand to take a deep inhale and breathe in the crisp night air.
Almost everyday after dinner, you would excuse yourself with the permission of your mother and embark on a stroll through the forest. At first, she wouldn’t allow you to go more than half a mile without her. Her fears derived from the fact that you were no hunter and you did not like to carry weapons, meaning you could not protect yourself if the time called for it. But upon realizing you had a deep connection with the animals of the forest (and came back unscathed every time) her rules relaxed and her trust in you flourished. Even the Palulukan paid you no mind - you would still bring small chunks of meat with you though, just in case.
You expertly leaped from tree to tree with little to no time between. After taking the same path day by day it was muscle memory by now. You used the ball of your foot to stabilize your landing on the thick branches after each jump, and your opposite leg carried you to the next. This was your favorite part of everyday, traveling through the breathtaking forest with your own two legs and being able to really appreciate the vast land you called home. The way the rough, damp tree bark felt against your toes; the small chirps and mating calls of animals below you that filled your ears. You much preferred it to flying on an Ikran; they were loud and would scare away the small animals of the forest before you could say hello.
Before you knew it, you had reached your quiet hideaway above the waterfalls. A sigh of relief left your lips as you leisurely made your way up onto the bank of the cliffside; the ground illuminating briefly in the spots where you had stepped. Careful to not crush the flowers that had just recently bloomed, you crouched down closer to the ground to collect one of the things you came for. Pulling the bag you had brought with from behind your body, you patiently searched through the vegetation until locating one of your mother’s favorite herbs for stews, and another for salves.
That was the deal the two of you had made. If you were going to be out exploring the forest without her, you might as well make yourself useful and and collect what’s needed for the house. You didn’t mind though, your mother was getting older and you would do anything to make her job easier. Your father had died during the battle with the sky people almost twenty years ago and was one of many casualties. He was gone before your mother even had the chance to tell him she was pregnant. Every time you expressed sadness about it, she would hug you and remind you that he died with honor; fighting along side his people and protecting what was left of home tree. She gave birth nine months after his passing and raised you alone. She was offered help from the village, but did not want to accept pity. “We are all struggling from the aftermath of this war, not just I.” She would humbly say. She truly was the strongest person you knew.
After gathering a good amount, you gently reclined and rested against the large tree trunk that had been supporting your back for a couple weeks now. Closing your eyes, you let the sounds of the water crashing into the rocks below invite you into a calm, lucid state - the beat of your heart slowing to a steady rhythm as you lay in nature.
The serene forest awarded you with its peaceful lullaby for about fifteen minutes before the crunch of a twig snapping interrupted your meditation. You gasped quietly, whipping your head around in alert, your eyes straining to try and see through the trees. Not many animals came this high up into the forest, mostly birds or the Syaksyuk (night lemurs) swinging through the trees above. But these steps sounded heavy and that made your ears lower with worry.
“Who’s there!” You called out, rising to your feet with your hands prepped on your bag to secure your mother’s herbs in case you had to make a run for it. You squinted your eyes at the darkness in confusion, the sounds of the leaves crunching were not frequent enough to be the result of multiple feet.
“Ow! Damnit,” You heard a familiar voice curse, your ears perking back up when a tall na’vi with long braids emerged into your view.
“Neteyam?”
He whipped his head up to look at you, his braids swaying to the other side of his head in sync with him. “[Y/n]?” He questioned right back at you. “What are you doing here? It’s late, you know.” He warned, brushing off his shoulder and looking around. “Are you alone?”
Still confused by his sudden appearance, you shook your head slightly. “I come here almost every night, and yes I’m… alone,” you spoke, your voice quieting with the last word that left your lips as you looked at him in bewilderment. Your eyes traveled from every inch of his body and you found yourself gawking at how he looked even more beautiful while under the moonlight. Your attention quickly averted when his gaze found its way back to you, raising your head and stabilizing your tone. “Forget about me, what are you doing here?”
He noticed you staring but decided against addressing it. He chuckled and shook his head, “I too come here often,, but only during the day. The forest is very dangerous outside of our village at night, [Y/n].” He said softly and took a step closer. It almost looked as if he were worried about you.
“Yes, I-” You felt the urge to take one backwards but your feet stayed planted in the grass, your brain reminding you that you’re literally standing on a cliff right now. “I’m aware of the dangers,” you continued. “But the animals don’t pay me any mind, I actually think they sort of like me. And I always bring scraps of food, just in case.”
He nodded, seemingly approving your method of preparation.
“I don’t have anymore, though. The forest is a bit quiet tonight so I gave it all to a Palulukan I saw a little ways back.”
Neteyam’s eyes almost popped out of his head as he took a step closer to you once more, in an attempt to make sure the words he heard were correct. “A- a Palulukan?” He questioned, “Like, those six-legged creatures that will tear your head off without thinking? Are you feeling alright?” His face washed over with genuine concern as he brought a three fingered hand up to feel your forehead.
“Yes, Neteyam.” You giggled at his astonishment. “I know what a Palulukan is, you skxawng.” You teased with an eyeroll and gently shooed his hand away, speaking up again to extinguish his worries. “But really, I’m fine. See?” You nodded slowly, extending your arms out to him to show your lack of injury.
“Huh, no scratches…” His eyes trailed along your smooth skin and you felt goosebumps prickle down your arms. You hadn’t remembered it being chilly tonight.
“No scratches,” you parroted, turning your back to him and returning to your previous resting area. “Come, sit with me.”
The corners of Neteyam’s mouth moved to form a small grin and he nodded his head in silent agreeance, taking you up on your invitation and sitting down next to you. He mimicked your movement, scooting back to relax against the base of the tree. A loud sigh of genuine relief could be heard from him and to you it sounded like he had been holding it in all day. You had your attention focused on the soft blades of grass that tickled your legs, suddenly tilting your head to the side with a new found query.
“Wait,” You started, earning a curious hum from him that permitted you to continue. “I thought you said you come here during the day time? Correct me if I’m wrong but, it looks pretty dark out here right now.” You joked.
Neteyam was always so lighthearted and easy going, so your eyebrows furrowed at him when he continued to stare straight forward at the waterfall across the ravine. You had expected him to laugh or at least crack a smile like he always did at one of your jokes, but he looked conflicted when he answered. “I just… I had to get away from my parents for a little while. They’re driving me crazy.” He grumbled.
Oh my Eywa, I’m such an idiot. This is the first time in years we’ve been completely alone and I’ve already soured his mood.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-“
“No,” He interrupted, turning his head to look at you with a smile that instantly calmed your nerves. “Don’t feel bad, it is not your fault… Besides, I’m glad I came when I did. Had I gone earlier, I wouldn’t have gotten to see you.” His voice laced thick with his accent, you felt your stomach swarm with butterflies at the feeling of his large hand now resting atop yours. His warm yellow eyes glistened, looking even more beautiful to you than the stars above your heads. Your lips parted slightly while the two of you sat there appreciating each other’s presence, his smile growing wider when he cocked his head to the side at the apparent loss of your train of thought.
Your eyes fell from his and focused themselves on your overlapped hands so you could blush in peace, earning a quiet snicker and a head shake from him. “Yes...” you finally responded, looking back up once you confirmed your heart wouldn’t explode and ruin the moment. “It has been a while since we hung-out.” You smiled, your tone mellow.
The two of you sat with each other for a while. Time passed so quickly whenever you were around him that you didn’t even know how long it had been. You talked about everything. His parents, how your mother was doing, and overall what he’d been up to. There was never a boring moment with Neteyam. At one point you expressed interest in his training, but the excitement was not reciprocated so you dropped the topic and instead joined in stargazing with him.
“So… How was that meeting you had earlier, with your parents?” You cleared your throat and spoke up after a bit, breaking the silence.
He scoffed and scratched his head lightly, throwing his arm up in an annoyed gesture. “Stupid and unnecessary. They tell me the same thing everyday as if I don’t already know.”
“What is it now? Are they scolding you for Lo’ak’s antics again?” You giggled at his aggravated huff in response to your question, using this moment to your advantage and gently resting your head on his shoulder. You genuinely thought it would be something along those lines. But when he hesitated before letting you in on exactly what they were pestering him about, you became worried.
“They want me to find a mate. Soon.”
His shoulders tensed and you blinked in disbelief at his words, your body slouching slightly against his arm with disappointment. The words that left his lips were not at all what you had been expecting. “Oh…” Your voice was almost a whisper with how hushed it was and you were glad he couldn’t see your face right now. A thousand thoughts clouded your brain at once, were they due to surprise at what he said, or fear?
“I’m not ready.” His voice snapped you out of your pity party, and you remembered that this wasn’t about you. It was about him. You had to set aside your feelings and hear him out. You guys were just friends anyway, and what else are friends for, right?
You laughed dryly, cringing after at how forced it sounded. “I think you’re just nervous, Neteyam. Besides, you have loads of options to choose from. Any one of your admirers from earlier will do fine.” You shrugged and tried to sound as encouraging as possible, picking the petals from a flower that you had taken into your grasp after you removed your hand from his.
“None of those women will ever be my mate.” He stated sternly, as if he sounded offended that you had even suggested it. His voice was calm and the volume low, but the tone he said it in made your breath falter. “Those are not the kind of women I want. They only see me for my status in the clan.” He mumbled, his feelings sounding hurt.
You sat up and turned your body towards him, dipping your head to try and meet his avoidant eyes. “’Teyam…” you said solemnly. He still hadn’t met your eyes but his ears perked up slightly in response to the old nickname you had for him. Watching him pick blades of grass out of the ground to distract himself from the conversation, you sighed to yourself in frustration. Not at him, but at the fact that the constant reiteration of the importance of his training throughout the years really had him thinking such a thing. “Look at me.”
His head lifted slowly but his eyes wouldn’t stay on your face. He gnawed at the inside of his bottom lip, feeling embarrassed for even bringing it up.
“You-” grabbing his hand in both of yours, you shook it slightly for emphasis and squeezed firmly, “-are so much more than a title, and you know that. You are worth so much more. Do you hear me, Neteyam?” Your gaze held strong and your shyness had no control over you at this point. You wanted to make sure he understood what you were saying. You wanted to make sure he knew you were telling the truth. You needed him to.
His eyes finally locked on yours and it was his turn to feel shy this time. A small smile broke through his previous frown, and his eyes fell to your lips for a split second before he looked back up at you. “Okay.” He answered, sounding satisfied with your reassurance and stroking the back of your hand with the pad of his thumb as a thank you.
The air between the two of you felt electric when you remembered you were still holding his hand. Your chest began to rise and fall with weighted breaths when you noticed he seemed to be admiring your features. You cursed yourself for wondering what it would feel like to kiss him- thinking about how well your lips would pair with his. Your intense feelings for him had calmed slightly due to his absence, but now you felt them bubbling up and threatening to burst through the surface all over again.
A loud horn sounded suddenly, interrupting your thoughts and signaling the end of a day. The both of you jumped and your hands retracted, startled out of your intimate interaction.
“Oh my Eywa… I was supposed to be home almost an hour ago!” You exclaimed, sounding panicked as you rushed to grab your things.
Neteyam’s eyes widened and he immediately stood up, looking equally as panicked upon remembering what happened the last time he got you home late to your mother when you guys were younger.
“I-I’m sorry, this is all my fault. I distracted you.” Rubbing the back of his neck with his hand, he eagerly extended his free one out to help you up while sounding apologetic. “Come, I’ll take you home.”
You accepted his offer and allowed him to assist you to your feet, shaking your head repeatedly as you stood in front of him. “No, no. This is on me, I completely lost track of time.”
Though it wasn’t his fault you had stayed out much too late into the night, he was right about one thing. He was able to distract you so easily, you became clumsy in his presence. You mindlessly took a wrong step to the side, crying out in pain when your foot came in contact with the thorn bush you usually remember to avoid- it’s sharp and thick thorns piercing through your skin.
“What? What is it? What happened?” Neteyam questioned frantically, his voice loud and riddled with worry when you yelled and helplessly clutched onto his biceps for support.
Pain shot like lightning through your leg and with your eyes tightly shut you hissed out an answer. “M-my foot, I-” you managed to get out between sharp inhales, another cry of pain interrupting your sentence when you attempted to lower your foot to see if you could walk.
“No!” Neteyam spoke against your movement, sighing when his advice came too late. “You cannot walk like this, hold onto me and keep your foot raised.”
Now, if it didn’t feel like your entire leg was on fire, you probably would’ve crumbled at the feeling of his warm hand sliding between the fold behind your knee and lifting it slightly to assist you with his instructions. The two of you were in such a compromising position, yet you couldn’t even enjoy it.
“Maybe we should sit down-“
You hopped a bit and shook your head, sliding your arms around his neck to reduce the weight burdened on your free leg as he held your thigh. “The thorns, they’re poisonous,” you breathed out. “I have to get home.”
“Poi-“ His mouth fell open in shock, almost repeating the word that had alarmed him. His jaw clenched seeing you in pain, he felt bad knowing he wasn’t able to help. “Can you fly? Call your ikran, now.”
“I can’t-“
“How foolish of me, you probably cannot fly. We will go on mine.” Before you could get another word out he raised his pointer finger and thumb to his lips with haste, resulting in a crisp, loud whistle.
The truth is… you couldn’t fly even if you wanted to. You never tamed an Ikran of your own and you were deathly afraid of flying. Because of this, you traveled solely by foot and had no intention of changing that. Until now.
You squealed in fear when his Ikran dropped down onto the cliffside in an instant, turning and shielding your face from its sharp, flapping wings. “Neteyam-“
“Come, we must go. There’s no time.” He urged, his eyes locked on your trembling foot as he waited for you to move.
“Wait!” you raised your voice, only to get his attention. “I’m… I’m scared of flying. Terrified.” You gulped, now looking at the giant creature but careful to not make direct eye contact.
“You are?” His voice was soft, intent on not making you feel bad for something you couldn’t control. He looked conflicted. Neteyam was never the type of man to make you do something you didn’t want to do, but he truly had no choice. “[Y/n], I am sorry, but we must. We need to tend to your wound as soon as possible. I understand your fear, so I will tell her to fly slow. No sharp tuns or dips, yes?”
Closing your eyes for a second, you sighed and slowly nodded your head. You attempted to calm yourself and slow your breathing as best as you could, knowing there was no other option but to face your fear. He waited for you to prepare yourself before swooping his arm below your legs and lifting you off the ground gently.
You actually wanted to kick yourself. To be in his arms was everything you wanted and more, minus the raging pain paired with numbness that was slowly starting to travel past your toes. You tightened your hold on his neck once arriving at the Ikran’s saddle and he felt your body tense against him.
“Mawey, [Y/n]. It will be alright, I promise.” Delicately placing you down on the back of his Ikran, he motioned for you to swing your other leg over before climbing on in front of you. “Hold here.” He reached behind him and grasped your hands, bringing them forward and positioning your palms to lay flat on his toned chest.
Your heart was beating so fast, you were surprised you even heard his voice through the loud thumping ringing in your ears.
“You feel my heart?”
“Y-yes.” You nodded almost as soon as the question left his mouth. His heart was the only thing you could feel. Hell, you couldn’t even feel your legs but you knew the numbing poison hadn’t travelled through your bloodstream that fast. You prayed they would regain feeling so you wouldn’t fall off this giant bird.
“Slow your breathing, listen to the beat of my heart and allow yours to do the same.” He instructed calmly, fastening his hands on the reigns.
You swallowed what felt like a giant lump in your throat, scooting closer to him and leaning forward to press your front against his back as he prepared to take off. The feeling of your skin against his was enough to make your breath shudder, but you really couldn’t use anymore excitement right now. “What if I fall?” You whispered.
“Nonsense,” He chuckled lowly and the vibration of his voice could be felt against your cheek. “You know I’d never let anything happen to you.”
You pulled back ever so slightly, your mouth agape and your eyes staring at the back of his head in disbelief at how easily those words came to him. However, your moment of pondering was cut short when he beckoned his Ikran to take off, your grip retightening and your body gluing back to his instantly. The large animal squawked before plunging itself off the cliff, resulting in a frightened scream from you.
“Tamtam, Saya. We have a new rider with us, and she’s a bit fearful.” Pulling up slightly, he used one of his hands to softly pat her strong neck to soothe her. The animal listened to his demands, flying steadily and slowing her pace to a gentle glide through the air. “How are you doing back there?” He asked, as if your nails digging crescent marks into his pecs couldn’t give him the answer he searched for.
Finally opening your eyes, you carefully peeked over your shoulder and peered down at the forest below you, letting out a small gasp. Softening the grip you had on the man in front of you, your eyes twinkled with admiration. “Neteyam, i-it’s beautiful…” you spoke in awe. You had never seen the forest from above until now and experiencing such a sight with him made you feel as if you had been missing out this entire time. You almost completely about the fear that consumed you just a few minutes prior.
After a few more minutes, Saya began to descend in front of your home- pulling you out of the spell the beauty of the forest had cast on you. The flight came to a gradual halt and her wings flapped in place to cushion the landing as much as possible. You saw the flickering of candle flame illuminating from inside.
Oh no. Please don’t be awake, please don’t be awake, please do not be awake.
Silently cursing yourself, you removed your hands from Neteyam’s chest. You secretly pouted at the sudden lack of warmth, but right now you had bigger issues to tend to- one of them being facing your mother. Neteyam dismounted swiftly, giving you a reassuring look and allowing you time to slide one of your arms around his neck before lifting you off, carrying you bridal style. “Not so bad, huh?”
Both your heads snapped to the entrance of your home as you watched your mother run out before you could answer him. “[Y/N!]” She yelled, not caring if her voice carried to the other homes. “Where have you been?!”
She looked worried sick, you felt terrible.
“Neteyam?” She questioned, obviously confused as to why he was with you- or maybe why you weren’t standing on your own two feet.
“Hi Ma…” You started, earning an angry glare from her. “I can explain.”
She whipped a hand up and closed her fingers, effectively silencing you as she turned her gaze back to Neteyam. “Young man, what were you doing with my daughter, this late in the night?” Her voice was eerily calm.
He lowered his head slightly to show respect. “I am sorry, I will explain everything… but your daughter is injured and we must tend to it, immediately.”
Her expression changed instantly, her eyes searching to find a wound until she noticed your swollen foot. “Oh my goodness… Come!” She demanded, urging Neteyam to bring you into the house.
“Place her down, here. Gently.”
He did as he was told and crouched down, removing his arm from beneath your legs once you sat down completely. He ran his now sweaty hands along his thighs and with his mouth in the shape of an ‘O’ he exhaled nervously, standing and obediently placing himself against the wall. He looked scared shitless and was more than happy to remove his hands from your skin in the presence of your agitated mother. You looked up at him apologetically, mouthing a silent ‘I’m sorry’.
You winced in pain at your throbbing foot, taking over for Neteyam and explaining to your mother what had happened before she could ask again. “I-I stepped in a thorn bush,” You paused, reluctantly continuing your sentence. “the poisonous one…”
She hissed in distaste, her back to you as she gathered what was needed to make medicine. “Everyday you go out, what do I tell you?” She seethed.
“Be care-“
“To be careful!” She cut you off before you could finish and you winced again, but not because of your foot. She lowered herself to the ground and propped your foot up on her leg to examine it. “You are lucky, child. The thorns could have broken off in your foot and put you in much worse shape.” She grumbled, wetting a cloth and using it to clean the dried blood from your skin.
“I know, and I’m sorry. I lost track of time and got distracted.” The pain began to subside as the poison completely numbed your foot, now working its way up your calf.
You watched her gaze shift to a nervous Neteyam who stood stiff and silent against the walls of your hut, looking at him suspiciously while he tried to find the right words to use.
“Ma, please.” You pleaded, your voice bringing her attention back to you like you wanted. “It was not like that, I swear it. He found me after I stepped on the thorns, had it not been for him I would not have been able to make it back.” You had lied a bit, but it was mostly the truth. “He had nothing to do with this, it was all my fault. He only helped me home, Mama.” You didn’t want her blaming Neteyam for something that wasn’t his doing, he had enough of that at home. Your mother was extremely protective over you because of what happened to your father, you were all she had left so she always came on strong at first when it concerned you.
She became quiet in a moment of contemplation, “I apologize, Neteyam. Thank you for bringing my daughter back to me safely.” She nodded her head, looking up at Neteyam with gratitude this time.
He smiled shyly as if it were no big deal, holding his arm with one hand as he dropped his head and shook it from from side to side, his braids following suit. He hadn’t changed a bit. Always quick to take the blame, but never to accept praise.
“Will your parents be angry with you?” You chimed in, looking at him worriedly. He already had so much on his plate, you felt bad at the thought of contributing. You relaxed slightly once he shook his head in attempt to assure you that he would be okay.
“It is fine, really. Making sure you are safe is far more important to me.” He responded, looking into your eyes and keeping them there until your mother cleared her throat to remind the two of you of her presence. “Ah, but I really should be going. It is late.” He swallowed, managing to tear his eyes away from your face. “Will she be alright?”
Your mother nodded, wiping the wet cloth along the sole of your foot once more. “Yes, thanks to you. Please, greet your parents for me?”
You watched as he brought two fingers up to his forehead then brought them back down with a slight bow, respectfully acknowledging your mother and excusing himself.
“Goodnight…” You sent him off with a coy wave, bringing your fingers up to gently rest against your lips as you watched him leave. The second he was out of your sight, everything that had just transpired in the last hour and a half began to wash back over you.
Thanking Eywa that your mother’s back was turned to grab few ingredients for an ointment, you looked to the side and picked up your bag, feeling slightly guilty. “I brought your herbs, mama. I’m sorry you have to waste them on me.” Your voice trailed off as you ushered them off in her direction.
“Nonsense. When it comes to you, nothing is a waste. We can always get more herbs, but I only have one of you. Do you understand?” She reassured, her hand on your cheek to comfort you before reaching for your bag. “You mean much more to me than any of these things.”
Your shoulders relaxed and you leaned into her touch with a sweet smile and a nod, grateful you had such a caring mother. You watched as she expertly ground up the herbs with a bit of aloe vera, her technique crafting it into paste that would aid in the healing of your injury. She dipped two of her fingers into the bowl, gently applying it to the puncture marks in your flesh.
“So…” She started, her voice laced with curiosity.
You groaned, bringing your hands up to cover your face in embarrassment as you already knew a boatload of questions were about to follow. Regardless of how tough your mother could be with him, she was surprisingly supportive of your crush on Neteyam and even encouraged it. You always made sure to tell her what a respectful young man he was.
“I haven’t even said anything yet!” She laughed, grabbing the bandage next to her and wrapping it around your foot as she continued. “Look, I just think you should go for it. You should to tell him how you feel, don’t you think he deserves to know?”
You sighed and looked down at your hands, twiddling with your fingers as you thought of what to say. “I don’t know Ma… I don’t want to get hurt. His parents want him to find a mate now, but he said he isn’t ready.”
“My sweet child,” Your mom took your hands into hers, causing you to look up at her. “He is waiting for you.”
