Okay if you are Trans especially a Trans Woman who isn't happy with her beauty I strongly recommend Blue-eyed samurai. Mizu is cis but you will related to her.

Mizu is a mixed race Japanese woman who at a young age had to dress like a boy to help evade capture by her unknown father. As she ages she is forced to continue to mask as a man in order to be considered more than property in Japanese society. Her happiest moments are when she is living as women and is shown to be distressed the first time she has to bind her chest.

My only complaint with Blue Eye Samurai is that Mizu should have a thick hick ass accent. Shawty grew up in isolation with a rural old man and when she did interact with others it was from a poor fisherman's village. THAT GIRL IS FROM THE MUTHAFUCKIN STICKS (or whatever Japanese equivalent to that is) AND SHOULD SOUND AS SUCH

Akemi is called a pig. She is discussed as an animal for sale for her husband/owner when she is still in the room. They talk about her fertility like about dog for breeding.

The one time Mizu looks in the mirror is after men beat her up and told her she is soft and weak. She hates it bc she thinks her weakness comes from being a woman, alongside with being mixed race. Her happiest moments are when she can be a woman freely, having a calm life. Naked in water she is at peace. She looses it when a man malls her weak, when her husband disrespects her for being a strong woman skilled with blade, when she puts tight bandages around her chest to appear like a strong young boy, not a weak young girl.

Dressing up as a man she bribes a gate keeper and enters a city freely, when a woman with a child who has a pass can't do it bc there is no men with her. She literally needs a man to move around legally.

Girls in the brothel fight for scrumbs of dignity and control over their lives. The only way for them to have value and be safe is when they satisfy a man.

Akemi is boosting men's go for a whole show. Only way she gains power is after pleasure a men. It's starts with her Dad, then Taigen, then brothel clients, till her official stuttering husband. She needs to babysit them all giving them power and feeding their ego to get anything back.

I'm watching Blue Eye Samurai again and Akemi is treated like an item, called a pig, discussed like an animal for sale when she is still in the same room. Woman has no right to travel alone, can't enter a city just bc there is no man with her. Mizu is beaten and told she is weak boy, but she knows she is in fact a weak girl, she looks in the mirror with disappointment and sadness bc she thinks her weakness comes from being a woman and mixed race. Women are a bargain and pleasure item only valued in brothel. They are expected to just accept everything and humbly take it. Mizu dresses up as a man to hold power and rights she cannot touch as a woman.

And yet some people are like nag this is about gender disphoria.

Silco was a good dad, silco was a bad dad...

Ma'am, he was human. And those aren't perfect. Far from a dad of the year award. He was very flawed and made a lot of mistakes in rising Jinx, the biggest one was weaponizing her anger and confusion. He allowed her to lash out and wreck everything... Encourage her to build a bomb (wtf dude????)

But he made her feel loved and understood.

Here is how I very personally see those family relationships in Arcane. My father is very much Vander type, also built like him, the man of muscle, a big and strong person. He bonds really well with my brother bc they have things in common, they are very much alike and understand each other well. Like Vander and Vi. But I was born a petit girl. Skinny, bony, not into sports, muscle and being big. Into some artsy stuff that aren't interesting like a football game. And we never had anything incommon. Just like Powder and Vander don't. Vander doesn't understand Powder/Jinx. She doesn't feel valuable, she doesn't feel enough since in her family, what matters is strength of your hands, being big, brave, being like a lion not a mouse.

Here is why I and probably a lot of girls out there love character of Silco so much. He UNDERSTANDS. He listens, empathysies and shows that he understands. And for some people, all they ever wanted was to be seen and understood.

Funny but he always reminded me of my mom. Not in the weird creepy way that he is as a villain. In a way that he is skinny and calm, he doesn't scream much, but he patiently explains or gives his point of view. He shows understanding and supports his daughter, wants her to be stronger, no more afraid, no more helpless in the brutal world. He makes Jinx feel seen, appreciated and loved. He seems cold and strict but clearly cares about Jinx a lot and SHOWS that. And they TALK with one another, sorting out the problem. Did Vander talked to Jinx? No, he took Vi for a private conversation, and that's great, very natural, but he was never shows sitting with Jinx for a moment to check how she feels and to tell that her invetions will work some day, and that it's not the end of the world if it didn't work today. And it doesn't seem like something he would do. But Silco knows how it feels to live in the shadow of people bigger then you, how it feels to never be first, or having to listen to people who rise their voice or scream to make their argument or point of view matter more.

And having to choose who I would rather have as a father... Perhaps Vander would be healthier, if you are like Vi or Clogger. But I would rather feel loved and understood. Or at last seen.
