It’s been a reallllly long time since I’ve posted something on tumblr, but I want to share the Kickstarter for my project, educational coloring books by Smart Colors Company. I’ve taken a break from my other artwork and have been working really hard creating accessible, creative, and enjoyable coloring books with a purpose - to educate. Yesterday I launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring three of them to life: Brainability to train your brain, The Language Coloring Book to learn languages, and The Art Clinic to promote health literacy. Website // Facebook // Instagram

I am a bad blogger, but here is some of the acrylic landscape art I did this year. Especially lately I’ve been really interested in showing contrasts and opposites - thematically and sometimes through color and form -  in my artwork. 

A few months I was notified by the Arts & Health program at Duke that I’ll have my own solo exhibition in the hospital next fall, which is exciting for me because I am always looking for ways my passions intersect. And to my knowledge I am one of the only students they’ve ever accepted - they mostly exhibit local professionals. I am very grateful for this. And this past month I got to teach my first painting class, Bob Ross style. Also very neat. Over winter break I’ll post more of the artworks that I’ve been working on, many of which will be in the exhibition.

My friend was talking to his mom on the phone in Spanish and I don't know Spanish but the way he said "Si mamaaaaa" was perfectly analogous to "Yessss mommm" and I think it's hilarious how universal that phrase, with that intonation, is. United by nagging moms.

The third of my acrylic landscape series - this time with more fantasy landscapes in mind. Scenes are inspired from all over, especially the mountains of Colorado, where I grew up, my travels in Nepal the in Himalayas and Everest region, and Patagonia. Each painting is named after a fictional city or area of my own creation. The series is still in progress and features my largest painting yet, "Amrister," (the first painting) on a massive 36x48" canvas that comes up to my shoulders when standing along its width. More.

Been super bad about uploading my art this year! This was a short, impromptu series of cityscapes from Prague drawn with ballpoint pen on somewhat dingy notebook paper - but I like to think this is part of its charm. One of the only times I've ever used proper reference in my artwork. I spent the summer of 2015 in Prague on a medical internship and after shifts at hospitals I would sit and draw my favorite scenes near my apartment in my steno pad with all my notes in it. (This was a fun way to meet people as passersby would often stop and watch me or ask about the sketches!) Each drawing is 6x9". From top to bottom, the scenes are the Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and Wenceslas Square. More.

Am roommate, can confirm was concerned.

I was at work when I watched it, I slid off my chair and rolled around on the ground making crying noises (the only person around was my friend so i did not have to restrain myself lmao)

I WAS IN MY ROOM AND I JUST STARTED FLAILING AND SCREAMING AND MAKING HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISES. I THINK MY ROOMMATE WAS CONCERNED.
