Trump’s defunding of CPB means a massive loss to all local PBS and NPR public broadcasting stations. But based on their ability to get sponsorships, advertisers, other grants, private donations, state funding, and membership subscribers, some stations will end up hit a lot harder than others.

And some of the hardest hit stations, the ones who had been relying most heavily on this federal funding, are Native American and Indigenous Nations’ local stations. Radio stations in rural areas and on reservations can often be a really important source of locally relevant information—and publicly available media in Native languages.

Unfortunately, many Native American-serving public media stations listed on Adopt A Station don't have donation or support pages that I can find (KGHR - Greyhills Academy in the Navajo Nation in Arizona; KGVA - The Voice of the Aaniiih and Nakoda Nations in Montana; KSHI - The Voice of the A:shiwi in Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico; KCUW - Umatilla Reservation Community Radio in Oregon; KTNN - The Voice of the Navajo Nation broadcasting from Arizona; KUHB - The Voice of the Pribilofs in St. Paul, Alaska; KDSP - Sand Point in Alaska... if you can find any, let me know! And certainly if you're in the area, show them some support!)

But one that's actively running a fundraiser that could absolutely use more support is KUYI - Hopi Radio in Arizona. Broadcasting from the seat of the Hopi government in Kykotsmovi, KUYI includes local news from the Hopi reservation and programming in the Hopi language. They're also set to lose 60% of their funding with the CPB funds rescinded. Donate to support them here—they’re aiming to raise $25,000 for their 25th anniversary, and as of the time of this posting have raised $1,660.

hands down, king of secrets, my post-BPWF fic where Toussaint sees Shuri enter his life...and Namor, too, and how he interprets their relationship and his own relationship with Wakanda, despite being very little. It's the fic I care most about, I've been thinking about it for over a year, and I really, really want to finish it before the next big MCU movie comes out (I know I can ignore new canon if I don't like it, but now is easier than later).

4 ⧽. is there an au or trope that you haven’t written before, but would want to try?

sex pollen is one trope I'm really interested! I'm pretty shy about writing explicit scenes, but I really enjoy scenarios where characters have to negotiate compromised consent or unexpected power shifts, and then manage the aftermath. sex pollen and related tropes have a lot in there that I find really fascinating.

10 ⧽. what genre is generally the easiest or most enjoyable for you to write? which is the hardest?

I think easiest for me to write is short fluff pieces. My personal favorite category is "characters deal with the details of a relationship in the aftermath of X", where X is usually the canon. Sometimes I can throw a ghost in there (I have a lot of ghosts in my fics).

Smut is the most challenging, because I can get in my head worrying about how other people will read it and if they'll find it sexy.

18 ⧽. how do you want your writing to feel to your readers?

I want it to feel like a sketchbook you can fall into -- light, pretty, clear, with enough details to catch the feeling or mood I want to show you, especially character interactions or thoughts that 'click' into place.

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, let’s talk about your posture-

there are things you should be doing now to prevent yourself from starting to look like 🥀

Why does it matter? Future you would like to avoid the pain, limited motion, and fall risk that goes along with worsening posture.

What’s the focus?

1. Keep the flexibility in your spine

2. Stretch the muscles in the front

3. Strengthen the muscle in the back

Here are some simple things you can do daily while sitting and when you get up to go into the bathroom or the kitchen

Keep the flexibility by doing these repeated movements: 10 repetitions several times a day

The goal is to give yourself a double or triple chin. Keep your nose pointing forward, don’t let it tip up or down

Thoracic extension- use a chair with a seat back that comes up to the level of your shoulder blades. Try to bend back over the top of the chair without arching away from the seat back and without extending your neck. If the pressure from the top of the chair is uncomfortable you can place a towel there

Stretch the muscles in the front by using a door frame. This one will feel good afterwards

If this isn’t enough of a stretch you can do one side at a time. If you have the right arm up step forward with the right foot and turn slightly to the left. Then do it on the other side.

Strengthen the muscles in the back by squeezing your shoulder blades together for a count of 10 and then repeating 10 times. You can do this several times a day Hint: Don’t lift your shoulder blades up

There are lots more exercises for strengthening your back muscles but this is a good starting point and easy to do. I like doing it while driving

Tips:

Do the best you can

If it hurts stop

Envision future you saying thank you each time you do one of the exercises

I really do think life is a series of watching other people walk through doors you can't follow them through. I've been thinking about it lately when it comes to marriage---my sister got married recently, and my brother before her, and while the occasions were joyful and I was happy for both of them, it was also like standing in mission control. Or maybe not even that, maybe the 'friends & family' section of the tarmac, several miles from the launch pad entirely. Waving as this intrepid astronaut (the one you would have sworn you knew as well as you know yourself, because you share so much and it lingers in your skin) climbed into a shuttle, jetted off into the darkness.

And then, the person who came back was....different. Not bad different! (Sometimes they come back better, this is also decidedly strange.) Just....different. They have gone somewhere you can't follow, seen and experienced things you will never be privy to. They will go back to that dark, unknown and unknowable country again, once the holiday or other familial obligation is over. And so you spend some time talking to them, nodding and smiling on autopilot while you quietly wonder, did they do that before, and I just didn't notice? Is that new? I don't remember that. I can't remember if---

It's a very strange experience, to be confronted with the fact that people exist outside of you, even those who share 99.99% of your DNA.

very heartbreaking news, but actor jonathan joss was confirmed dead today. he was killed in a shooting after an argument with his neighbor, and the neighbor is in custody now.

jonathan joss was most famous for playing ken hotate in parks & rec and voicing john redcorn in king of the hill. he was also a musician, part of a band the red corn band. he was born and raised in san antonio, and he was comanche and white mountain apache. he was 59 years old. i know he’s had some struggles over the years, especially this past year when a fire claimed his house and the lives of his two dogs. but that’s why i wanted to choose a picture of him smiling - he was a comedian, and he was beloved for being so talented and full of humor.
