The endings of the last two life seasons make me realize that Grian cannot do the desert again

Like Wild Life, he was allied with Joel during the end and it would be perfectly reasonable to offer a 1 v 1 in some lore important place

Do I think he would’ve won? Ehhh but like at least there would be a better chance and he wouldn’t died from fall damage

Then in Past Life, if he had taken the time to offer a 1 v 1 with Gem (an ally he had for the entire season) he would’ve realized that Martyn was alive and take him out first

Do I think he’s doing this on purpose? Kinda since he’s the one to initiate the betrayal both times and I think he wants like a full on win himself rather than repeat an ending

(Slightly Angsty) Annabeth Drabble

I got bored so I wrote a small drabble of Annabeth thinking alone after the first war. Anyway knowing you’re meant for greater things at 10 now has consequences lmao

778 words, 3rd person POV, Annabeth POV

Annabeth skips a stone across the small creek, watching as it sinks after 5 skips. The air felt different, lighter and a little more clear. Not weighed down by the fate of the world hanging on a balance or the smog leftover by explosions. But it still clung to her, feeling a little too much like grief.

She swears she can still smell burning flesh, hear the sizzling of acid clawing at Silena's face. It's not the only death that haunts her, who know how many ghosts she'll be seeing once she gives herself time to think. 37 campers. Her family by choice and technically blood if she acknowledges it. There's so many shrouds she has to make, and they haven't even finished counting the bodies. Never mind identify all of the corpses without features. Honestly, she doesn't think she'll be able to walk through New York without seeing bodies on the floor.

Could she even stand to watch the news right now? To see the mortal body count of those who couldn't be moved away fast enough? It's nearly enough to make her sick if she still felt the great prophecy hung around her neck. But she can't blame anyone for her fate, not when it was her who was lured to the attic that fateful day.

It didn't matter anyway if she was aware of the noose around her neck or not. Even if the new great prophecy felt like another rope tightening around her throat. The Fates aren't that mean to make them go through another one that quickly. Right?

The celestial bronze dagger felt like lead against her thigh, only getting heavier as she unsheathed it. A cursed blade, funny for a dagger that has only ever protected her. Even if it original owner has done the complete opposite. Truthfully, it doesn't even feel like hers anymore. How can it be when it wasn't her who welded it for the prophecy.

The one consistent promise of a greater fate since she was 10 and she was nothing more than the betrayed. Glory and honor tasting like ash in her mouth once she gives them more thought. She lays awake at night more often than not, tearing at the invisible strings looping around her arms. It makes she feel like she's 6 again, screaming about spiders to those who cannot see them. Only this time she knows better than to bring it up.

Especially now that she's been established as a leader, someone who has to lift people up rather than bring them down. Abruptly, she's reminded of the first Athena head counselor who welcomed her into the cabin. They were an adult demigod, 19 if she remembers correctly. They pressed a new book about architecture into her hands after she was claimed, and promised to give her a new family. She doesn't even remember their name.

And she'll never know because they died early on, something about her mother's quest with a coin. Before no one could speak about them without tearing up, now there is no one who remembers them.

Being a camper who've stayed for 9 years is merely a footnote in her introduction. No one knows of the weight that follows. The campers she'll never see again, the shrouds, and knowing exactly how ever changing the roster of the camp is. Luke did, but now he's a past chapter of her life. One with tear stained pages and blacked out words.

Annabeth wishes she could see him as one thing, or at least have a definitive time where he stopped being her brother. The main traitor of camp Half-Blood and the older brother who let her ride on his shoulders after she got tired of walking. But they're the same person.

She can't blame Hermes for being mad at her for letting Luke go. Not when she can't even look at those shade of blue eyes without flinching. Did he hear when Luke wished he had more pride to deny unclaimed kids? That he wanted him to force the other gods to make a place for them instead of rolling over and accepting them? Does he know that he's just as guilty as her in their shared sin?

The honor of becoming the Architect of Olympus feels like needles under her skin as she realized she'll have to desecrate Luke's final resting place. She'll get to see and meet the parents of kids who've never seen a glance of them. At least she'll have a legacy, even if the blood it took to get it was washed off. But right now she's too tired to turn the title over in her mind.

Most of these revolve around camp half blood demigods in general so

Each cabin has a banned game

Scrabble is banned in a 60 mile radius from the Athena cabin

They’re vicious and aren’t afraid of tearing you apart

Monopoly better never be seen anywhere near camp in case a Hermes kid gets to it

Gods forbid Ares’s kids even catch a whiff of Sorry, they’ll target you specifically in games if you win

Guess who with Aphrodite kids? Whoops you’ve suddenly been cursed with face blindness

Apollo kids find Operation as an insult to medicine and will maul you if they see you with it

The Hephaestus cabin held a rubix cube competition once, half of the camp lit up in flames and there wasn’t any fire starters in a mile radius

Uno is a classic party game so surely the Dionysus kids would love it! Yeah a little too much, now you’re vision is blurring and you can’t tell what’s up and what’s down

The Demeter kids will suffocate your cabin in kudzu if you somehow win at candy land

Even if they pretend to be better than the campers, the Hunters will jump you if you happen to join them in spoons

Risk with Zeus’s cabin? Oh boy one of the continents is getting charred no matter what you do

If you play battleship with a Poseidon kid I hope you don’t need that board bc that’s getting destroyed

The rivalry between the Hades kids and Athena kids with Clue has ended up with 17 hospitalizations and 2/3 of them weren’t even playing

Athena kids make great motorcyclists

I mean with a brain that processes information extremely quickly and a need for adrenaline?

Put that kid on a motorcycle and they’ll be fine

Whether or not they’ll be a law abiding citizen is debatable

Now I’m not saying that all Athena kids who get to adulthood drive a motorcycle I’m just saying they probably know how

In fact the getting to adulthood tradition involves getting a motorcycle license

Anyway all Athena kids who own a motorcycle has a specific owl stamped into it so any demigod kids know they’re here to help

Adult demigods who made it out of camp may not come back often (at least before Percy and Annabeth made it less of a horrible place) but they will always help another demigod

In fact all adult demigods have a special symbol on them to identify them as demigods

Whether on their person or their house, it makes it known that they’ll help demigods

It’s not an uncommon occurrence for them to get demigods crashing on their couch or guest room during a quest

In exchange the campers will update them about the camp

Annabeth is actually really good with a bow and arrow (even counting the weapons blessing from her mom)

One she was probably forced to practice it for five years

So even if it wasn’t as good as the Apollo kids or the Hunters, she’s still pretty damn good at it

Two I feel like Thalia would try to teach her bc she wouldn’t know what camp taught her while she was a tree and wanted something similar to when they were on the run where Annabeth was taught a lot of tips

Annabeth goes along with bc it’s been so long since she had her big sister so she might as well let this go on

And technically she is still learning, just the Hunters’ way

All of this culminates into a scene where an enemy is getting away and Annabeth grabs a bow and arrow off the ground to kill it

All kids can talk to at least one of their parent’s sacred animals

Sometimes when a demigod dies, you can find corpses of their parent’s sacred animals nearby who tried to help

Luke was harassed by snakes while he was being a traitor who tried to convince him to come back

A lot of the traitor demigods had animals try to talk them out of it

It just made them madder

When becoming a Hunter you lose the ability to talk to your parent’s animals and instead gain the ability to talk with Artemis’s sacred animals

Each cabin has a “days since ____” it differs depending on which cabin

There’s obviously one for explosions for the Hephaestus cabin

The average for that one is 0.71 days

Hermes cabin has one for biting

85% of the time it’s broken by an unclaimed camper

The big three kids had to make a new one since their boards got wiped so no one knows what it used to be

Athena cabin has one about debates

It’s perpetually at a 0 and no one is surprised

Are you kidding me. 2nd life out of the like 10 I have to do and it’s at 2500 words. At this rate I’m gonna make it a 3 chapter fic. God if this ends up being like 30k words I’m gonna freak

Anyway holy miscommunication between Athena and her children, man it’ll be a shame if it happens again…

“A sharp chirp equivalent to a reprimand escapes Athena, "Do not talk to me in that way!" She takes a step away, needing a moment to breathe before deciding to be vulnerable, "Look, I'm trying to save you. Heroes don't have good endings, there's a cost to honor and glory. Time and time again have myths detailed nothing but the suffering of heroes. My children have burned for their tales, seared themselves into history in exchange for their lives. You aren't great and you don't have to be great."

She knows she messed up with the last sentence when her daughter flinches away as if she was slapped. Heartbreak overflowed from the parts of her face she could stand looking at, before giving way to anger at her avoidance. Rounded fingers pulls her cape around her, shielding herself away from her own mother, "Well maybe, you shouldn't assume what I want. Maybe I do want to burn for glory, at the very least, I don't want to stay in a cage for my entire life!"”

Random idea for a PJO x MCU crossover

During the time Percy is missing, Annabeth decides if she can’t get the gods to help her, then she’ll go through mortal means. And then proceeds to tear through governments and the underground to find a glimpse of him on camera anywhere.

With SHIELD being an open ish secret, it isn’t long until she finds out about them. Three minutes later, and a hefty bribe for the Hephaestus cabin, Annabeth has full access to the SHIELD database. From there she learns about HYDRA (which she finds the name weird bc their logo isn’t a hydra) and their kidnappings so then she breaks into their database too

Five minutes later she finds an uncomfortable amount of infiltration in SHIELD by HYDRA. More than that, the brainwashing and already working plans for world domination makes her anxious (she did not just save the world just for the mortals and aliens when did that happen wtf to fuck it over anyway)

So clearly, the obvious action is to adopt a persona to info dump to the not evil/not traitor (and doesn’t that bring back memories) agents to save the world inadvertently (she needs a distraction from Percy or she’s gonna lose herself)

Approximately 3 hours later, Phil Coulson, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton (who may or may not be a legacy of Apollo she can’t tell yet), and a couple others get very damming evidence in their inbox by someone going by the name of Owl (look idk man I’m not searching for names with relevance)

She proceeds to be some kind of consultant who no one can hack (thank gods for celestial bronze’s natural property of signal scrambler) and no one can contact on their terms

Probably gets in contact with the Avengers to yell at them about security issues and help with missions

Befriends Peter bc he reminds her of Percy and she can’t sense the spider dna through a screen, bickers with Tony since he reminds her of her younger self before the trauma

Bonds with Bucky and Steve over war trauma, cold towards Thor since he’s a god/alien? (She’s not sure but Magnus denies that he’s the god so)

Gets along with Natasha, due to being a child soldier, and Clint, due to unusual childhood that was still sort of a childhood to them but no one else gets that

Then she drops off the face of the Earth bc she finds an actual lead on Percy

All of her coworkers are scrambling bc wtf do you mean one of their most competent advisors disappears for no reason. They probably don’t know her actual age either since war trauma is fun. Half of them think she has been kidnapped the other half thinks she’s being targeted, either way they all think she’s in danger and needs help

Then the second war ends and Annabeth is still alive with one less celestial bronze laptop

She wants to make sure her mortal coworkers are okay and Stark industry just opened up an internship opportunity so

Cue Stark intern!Annabeth who doesn’t want her coworkers friends to die but also doesn’t want to dredge up that era of her life again. So instead of talking, she just walks to Friday and starts solving their cases while marking it with her symbol and absolutely 0 contact

Everyone is like wtf and there’s a scramble to find her as she’s chilling in the cafe 30 floors down

Fic where Annabeth gets thrown into EPIC at the end of the Trojan War and quickly realizes she's a better person than the Odysseus she's revered for her entire life, while he decides this strange girl should be his second in command. Now that I think about it, Annabeth’s life is consistently defined by the absence of a woman and the actions of a man.

Her parents? Neglective father and absent mother

Her new family? Main traitor for Kronos and host of Kronos Luke and dead turned hunter Thalia

Camp Half-blood? Chiron teaches her how to be a hero and she’s back to proving herself to an absent goddess

Eventually she has to step up to learn how to be the woman she wants to be, and even then she neglects herself when confronted by emotions. Then Percy comes and brings her along quests, which helps prove herself to her absent mother.

You know I don’t think we as a fandom think how absurd how camp half blood managed to defend Olympus. Like it took ~200 people from the Romans to defeat Kronos’s secondary force, which was probably weaker than his primary force facing the Greeks. (bc why would he split it evenly when his goal is Olympus) Yet they barely had ~100 warriors —including the hunters, nature spirits, centaurs— and managed to beat the Titan lord himself???

Not only that, they were being sieged instead of attacking?? That takes way more resources and man power that they didn’t have?? Honestly this is just really showing the power disparity between legacies and demigods bc holy shit they should’ve never won that.

Even then Jason, a demigod, was the one to defeat Krios without the help of anyone else?? (Once again, how??) Either way now I want a fic where the Roman legacies are looking at the power difference between them and demigods.

Annabeth Chase has gremlin energy if you really think about it, and I'm tired of people pretending she doesn't, it just shows itself differently in comparison to other characters. Like you really think a girl who ran away from absent father and family in general, idealized her god of a mother, was raised by three (technically two given Grover's actual age) other kids while on the street, then by a bunch of other kids in a camp, and regards a half horse guy as a father figure would be normal? Would be the most stable of the friend group? No, and that's why she's that girl. Put some respect on her name.

PJO HEADCANONS

Mostly Annabeth centric out of celebration that I finally finished chapter one of my damn fic

Percy and Annabeth holds their wedding at sunset

So that once night sets Zoe can see their wedding

And so they can say hi to the stars once again

Sometimes, instead of Seaweed Brain, Annabeth will call Percy Seaweed hair

This is because Percy’s hair is kinda like a crow feather where in the right lighting it’ll shimmer different shades of blue and green

Its very pretty and the reason why she keeps coming outside to do her work instead of her preferred darkness

Whenever she uses it, every time without fail, Percy will ask if she’s going soft on him in a joking tone

The Athena cabin solves old unsolved police cases

Other cabins get in on it as well

Ares if it’s a particularly bloody case and they need another pair of eyes to help identify blood splatters

Demeter or Apollo if there’s some kind of poisoning

Hephaestus if there’s some kind of machinery involved

Hermes to sneak out their solutions and dump them outside the nearest police station

Dionysus and Aphrodite if they need help with motives or social engineering

The Romans are trying to steal away Annabeth

She doesn’t barge in on Roman politics and stays within her role as Ambassador as long as none of her friends or campers are in trouble

Mostly bc she does NOT want to deal with politics on top of everything else

Which means she’s a non competitor and more than that she’s a great status support

Plus she has a lot of positive qualities that romans would find interesting

Architect of Olympus, prefers strategic warfare, long “service” time, and composed

Plus I am a firm believer that the Romans respected Minerva bc she was basically the princess of the gods

So there’s actually a lot of fighting for her support

Everyone has or had a crush on either Percy or Annabeth (or both if they were attracted to both genders or neither bc ace spectrum)

Percy is camp half blood’s celebrity crush

Annabeth is camp Jupiter’s celebrity crush

Will I elaborate? No

Annabeth’s fighting style is leans more towards support

If you gonna be fighting with someone for nearly an entire war that’s gonna effect your fighting style

Ofc she can stand on her own but with someone else she’ll usually follows the lead of the other

So when she’s partnered with Percy she’s adapting on the fly to his unstructured fighting style

Ducking under his swipes and guarding his weak points for him

Percy does have the unfortunate habit of not guarding himself well due to one never being formally trained and two Annabeth guards him

Romans have dyscalculia and Greeks have dyslexia so this leads to Annabeth being a human calculator for Renya while Renya reads camp half blood policies and summarizes them for Annabeth

Mutually beneficial relationship

Ofc this isn’t just between them

When Greeks are in new Rome they’re sometimes called over to help out with numbers

While Greeks will ask Romans to help read menus or paragraphs for them

This really helps inter-camps relations

Summary

To be an immortal being is to watch time pass. To mark your life by events rather than the ticking of a clock. Athena is one of the unlucky gods, one who has a consistent events follow. The reincarnation cycle of her daughter, her firstborn, from life to death. From holding them in her arms to being forced to watch them die for her statue. And really, can you blame her for becoming callous?

Or, we see the effect sending your children to die for a quest for literally hundreds of generations

(Set in the headcanon that all of the bones in the Athena Parthenos quest were Annabeth's from previous lives)
