In 1991, 15 Dutch regional news papers put out a giant questionnaire, which then was answered by tens of thousands of people
Among the questions also was this one
Tumblr media
It basically says:
Do you consider yourself:
- heterosexual
- homosexual
- bisexual
- a-sexual
According to the results of this survey,
92,8% of the men and 93,5% of the women identified as hetero
3,1% of men and 2,1% of women identified as gay
2,6% of men and 2,7% of women identified as bi
1,5% of men and 2,7% of women identified as ace
I think this is fascinating, especially that they found so many asexual people, like this was in 1991 and yet they already found more people than that 1% that gets quoted a lot

maybe we shouldn’t dictate what love means to other people. maybe we shouldn’t offend them for disagreeing with “love is the whole point of life” thing. stop calling everyone miserable just because they don’t think the way you do

There has been one too many times now that I've seen one of those "love is everything" posts, where someone then makes an addition explaining how amatonormativity is exclusive and harmful, only for that to be met with mockery and hate.
But where is the love in that?
People will argue that, yes, love and compassion are so very important, yet they reblog those versions they disagree with for no other reason than to make fun of people pointing out that it's an inaccurate statement.
If love is so important, why don't you practice what you preach and reblog the original post without the addition that you disagree with? Why don't you just ignore someone else's point of view on the topic if you have no interest in it rather than sharing it to point fingers and laugh?
It's okay if you want to continue going around stating that love is the most important thing or whatever, but if you come across someone that disagrees with that take, maybe think about what point they want to get across for a second instead of just dismissing it by mocking them.
If love is so important, why are you so full of hate?

Newly Licensed Manga Explores a Young Women’s Asexual Identity
On January 26, Kodansha Comics announced that it has licensed Uta Isaki’s manga Is Love the Answer (Kimi no Sekai ni Koi Wanai). This single-volume manga follows a young woman as she explores her identity as aromantic asexual. It releases in English in Fall 2022.
Tumblr media
The publisher describes the manga:
When it comes to love, high schooler Chika wonders if she might be an alien. She’s never fallen for or even had a crush on anyone, and she has no desire for physical intimacy. Her friends tell her that she just “hasn’t met the one yet,” but Chika has doubts… It’s only when Chika enters college and meets peers like herself that she realizes there’s a word for what she feels inside–asexual–and she’s not the only one. After years of wondering if love was the answer, Chika realizes that the answer she long sought may not exist at all–and that that’s perfectly normal.
Is Love the Answer was serialized in Katsu Kiss and published in a single Japanese volume by Kodansha in 2020.
Uta Isaki is a Japaanese manga artist known for her series Sayabito: Sword of Destiny and Bukimi no Tani no Roboko-san. She has contributed to a number of manga anthologies, including Golden Time, Masamune-kun’s Revenge, and Éclair. Her doujinshi oneshots Silkscreen and Mine-kun Is Asexual are licensed in English by Irodori Comics.

[ID: Four screenshots from Koisenu Futari ("Two People Who Can't Fall In Love") followed by the "Unfollow me now" meme.
The four screenshots show Kodama Sakuko saying, "I thought I was lacking something as a human... That's why... The word Aromantic Asexual... no, your words have saved me."
The last image is a tweet from Tyler the Creator that says "Unfollow me now, this is gonna be the only thing i tweet about for the next week. I've wanted this for years. Fuck. What the fuck." END ID]

Hello friends, I have an amazing drama recommendation for you!
Koisenu Futari (2022) is a Japanese drama centered around two aromantic asexual characters going through life. Only 2 episodes are out rn but they covered so many great topics and issues aroace people deal with (I cried like 50 times while watching them).
As most of you know, a-spec representation in media is almost non-existent and there are very few aroace characters in movies/tv-shows.
I'm asexual (and probably aromantic or demiromantic, I'm not sure yet), and for me, it was really hard to find that out. Why? Because no one is talking about it.
First time I heard the term asexual was when I read Alice Oseman's Loveless and Radio Silence. I didn't know such term existed, I didn't know some people felt the same as I do.
I thought I was weird or broken or whatever because most of the characters you see in tv shows and movies (or people irl) have met their soulmates or are in love with someone or want to have sex with someone.
Everyone talked about sexual attraction and I didn't understand what they meant. I thought that if you think someone looks pretty to you, you are sexually attracted to them. But that's not it and no one explains that to you.
This is why I loved this drama so much. In just 2 episodes they covered topics such as feeling broken, googling stuff like "I can't fall in love, what is wrong with me?", being happy when you discover the terms asexual and aromantic, and meeting another a-spec people. Also the pressure society and family put upon you (When will you find someone, when will you marry, how many kids are you going to have, you are useless if you don't have all of these), even though you don't want that.
It made me so happy to watch this and I honestly can't wait to see what they'll do in the next episodes.
If you are on the ace spectrum or are questioning, this is the perfect drama for you! I hope a lot of people will discover this post and drama and enjoy watching it.

i think my biggest issue with the whole trend of posts going 'uhhh have you ever felt happiness ever? that's love baby checkmate athiests" when aros criticize the prioritization of love is like. for me specifically love has been nothing but a suffocating and Miserable word.
the way my family has treated me has always been casually brushed aside by people because, after all, they Love me. i can't speak out about their awful behavior because they Love me. their blatant violations of my boundaries are fine because Love. I've stayed with toxic friends for far too long because the pursuit of Platonic Love was something i thought i needed to complete me, i've seen Others refuse to enforce boundaries with their friends because "i Love them and i don't want to hurt their feelings", completely disregarding their own comfort in the name of Love. every day i see people justifying Horrid actions, both fictional and real, because 'they did it for Love'.
but what a fucking SHOCK that i don't WANT love to be applied to me after growing up like this.

So funny how alloros seem to think that 'die alone' is an insult. Like when I die, it's gonna be getting chased down by a serial killer in a field, and that moment will stay between me and the serial killer, I don't want my friends and family interrupting.

Gotta love how everything aspecs do is misinterpreted as ill-intentioned. How romance repulsion is seen as repulsion to specifically gay romance i.e. homophobia. How aros talking about the overemphasis on romance over friendship in fandom is seen as an attack on gay ships, how aros saying "it doesn't have to be romantic" is conflated with homophobes saying "it doesn't have to be gay". How aces complaining about unnecessary sex scenes in media is equated to censorship. How aspecs talking about allos or even using the word "allo" is treated as an evil conspiracy to "lump gay people with their oppressors" or whatever. Gotta love how no matter what we say no one will listen and people will find a way to vilify it.
