Guardian Angel of Love

Here's a sketch I did in ibispaint of my OT3! I used the Japanese Calligraphy to sketch this and while it was tricky to use in a lot of way it was fun to make something this raw and again I used the bisexual flag colours as I always tend to do when I draw these three! XD

Like all of my other ibis paint pictures I did this in the original 72 manga style and I was originally going to make this a full inked and coloured piece but I liked how it looked as a sketch that I kept it as is. I'll have to try again to make a OT3 piece in ibis paint another time! XD

Another End

Here's another piece that's based on the Devilman ending of the manga and here we have Satan and Zennon enjoying a softer moment together, Is this an ending where Satan still comes to see that humanity doesn't deserved to be wiped out after all and was able to convince Zennon and the other demons of this? That's for you to decide!

I always headcanon Zennon as some form of Pansexual when I think of applying sexual identity labels onto him, though I'd doubt he'd care much for human labels, seeing himself as above such things and I like to consider that most demons feel the same way.

Either way it feels the most fitting and I enjoyed playing around with this colour scheme and wanted to draw a softer moment between these two again. :3

A better ending

I'm briefly back with a few more devilman related pieces in time for the 52th anniversary of the release of the final chapter of the original devilman manga with its iconic and tragic ending that has helped Devilman to remain one of the influential manga of all time!

Although this piece is based on the ending page of Devilman, its quite different as it has a much happier ending! While I do believe the ending of the original manga is perfect in showcasing the end result of violence, cruelty bigotry and war, I however, wanted to redraw it as something more positive, where love and compassion overcame everything and a kinder world is able to have the chance to exist.

In this picture Ryo/Satan was able to overcome his hatred of humanity with Akira and Miki helping him to see there is good in humanity and that the demons and humans can work together to build a better world.

I also wanted the colour scheme to be of the Bisexual pride flag since it still is pride month and I wanted to make at least one pride themed piece before the month was out! I'm happy with how it came out, playing around with limited colour schemes has been something I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of my art lately, it feels like I can really stretch myself. Its something I want to keep striving to do as I play around with my art more since I feel like I learn something new each experiment I do with my art.

Devilman 53rd Anniversary

Oh wow I can't believe its been 53 years since the Devilman manga firsts came out in June 11th 1972! Its original run might've been short but it really packed a punch and had a lasting impact on the manga genre as a whole!

Its also one of my favorite manga of all time, its a series that has inspired me so much with the setting and characters and themes of love in all of its many forms and how war and violence and how hating the other will be the destruction of humanity. And sadly it continues to be horribly relevant to our modern day…

As for this picture I thought it would be fun to do a poster to celebrate the 53rd anniversary taking it back to the moment where everything in Akira Fudo's and Miki Makimura's life changed the moment Ryo Asuka walked right into it and showed Akira the world of demons…

Anddd here's another ibis paint piece I did this time Ryo and Akira sharing a tender moment together. This one was felt easier to make, at least in terms of of colouring, the inking was tricky but again I haven't tested with playing around with the inking brush setting on ibis paint and if I can find options that work for me then I think I should be able to get the hang of it XD

Dance with the Devil

My little journey through ibis paint continues and I did kind of struggle with this piece a little, I think I haven't been setting my inking brushes right and once I tinker more with them then I think I'll have a lot more fun. XD

In my mind I always associate Ryo/Miki with dancing even though they've never danced together at all XD But I can imagine Ryo sweeping Miki off her feet with some smooth moves! (he should also do that with Akira!)

I really played around with the colours with the background and on Ryo and Miki, it took a lot of messing around but its in a place I feel happy about but oh my goodness it was a trip! XD

DVMNINKTOBER Day 20 Bathtub

Day twenty is bathtub and when I first thought of this prompt I thought it would be funny to draw Ghelmer in a bathtub since he has a lot to do with water and he ruins Miki's relaxing bath time. So here's Ghelmer having a little self care day with soaking in the tub and drinking some nice red wine! XD

It was fun to draw Ghelmer for the first time since I don't draw a ton of demons and he was an interesting challenge to draw, espeically since I picked his OVA design and that's more complex compared to his original design in the manga. Its also my personal favorite, he looks so slimy and monstrous that I can't help but love it.

I'm gonna take a little break from doing the rest of this inktober since the next prompt is Apocalypse and I want to be in the right mindset to do that and to enjoy making nice art for my birthday month.

DVMNINKTOBER Day 19 Run

Happy Devilman day and Pride month!!! And also my birthday! XD

Day nineteen is run and I had a tricky time coming up with an idea for this prompt, the problem was that I had a lot of ideas! XD I did want to include Miki and Miko running together and passing the baton to each other, since running is something they both love and is a theme in crybaby.

But I also wanted to include a reference to the live action movie (even though its my least favorite adaption of Devilman but hey why not include it XD since that also has running in it though only at the beginning. (Also I want to be clear that in my version of the live action movie, Akira and Ryo are not played by brothers like in the movie)

And then I remembered that in Violence Jack Ryo and Miki also ran together when they were trying to escape the Slum King so in the end I wanted to include all of these moments of running in Devilman which each reflecting the like they were ghosts of the past and future or different possibilities running alongside each other. It was a challenge to do but I'm pretty pleased with how it came out!

It was nice to draw something a little light-hearted since the last batch of inktober prompts were intense in a lot of ways and I want to make this June's art have a nice feeling as much as possible. :3

The world is ours!

And here's the last of the batch of art I've made recently! Again this is me playing with the 70s style of the original devilman manga in ibis paint! This time its of Zennon and Ryo/Satan sharing a moment together, perhaps they are celebrating something, whatever it is it can't be good for humanity! XD

Btw the colour scheme for Zennon is based on this figure of him and this coloured spread in the recent devilman spinoff, its not the colour scheme I would've chosen for him but it is sure interesting XD

I played around with the different effects Ibis Paint has and they are really fun but some of them are premium only sadly and there are features I either haven't figured out yet how to do them or they aren't available like they are in Procreate, but I'm still having fun and will continue to play around in Ibis Paint, its kind of a nice way to relax for me? I can't explain it but expect to see more Ibis Paint art from me next time XD

Akira x Miki Mermay

I finally managed to make something for Mermay for once! XD I have been seeing ibis paint in youtube videos and know artist friends who use the app and I thought I'd give it a try and it is a very good program that's free aside from the ads, but I did find it a little tricky to use since I'm so used to procreate but it gave me a nice little break and a way to stretch my artist muscles more. I also decided to play around with the 70s style of the original Devilman manga and it's pretty fun to draw something much more cartoony than I normally do.

The Devil is a Woman

So a few weeks ago I was playing a lot of Heaven's Secret Requiem on my second slot on whisper of devils and no humanity(I named my MC, Lucy as a little nod to you know who lol) and romanced Anna and I really enjoyed the toxic yuri elements of that path despite its many problems, but I hadn't cared because I was enjoying playing a character who could control abominations and do fun fucked up things. I enjoyed Anna as a character and wished her route allowed her to have more complexity and we were getting it, but it could've been way better done honestly.

But yeah a couple of weeks ago I was riding that high of enjoying this ship and Lucy as a character, though there were a lot of things I would've changed i.e make Anna's grayness clearer a lot sooner, and dial down on the self-homophobia on her end and make her relationship with Lane/Lucy a little fucky like keep in the confliction but not make it so it could be mistaken for dubcon/noncon! I made a playlist for this ship and art to go with it!

I was that in love with this book but there were little niggling problems I had with it, the favoritism the author had for the other Love interests, and sadly Anna and Greg weren't any of the favorites, the unsolved plot threads that were still hanging, the way the was ignoring the differences in the humanity and no humanity paths and how it felt like the late part of season two and now season three made more sense if you were on the no humanity path since that's how Lane acted like in the plot a lot of the time no matter what!

But well the leaks for the May update happened and I have to say while at least Anna seems to be having a nice scene in her route and Yan is confirmed to be bisexual(yay!) the fact that there are some screwy scenes for Dmitry and Abel made me feel so upset with this book and really fueled my disappointment of HSR, which is a huge shame since this was one of my fave books on the app, and despite the series' flaws I really enjoy the Heaven's Secret series, I love angels and demons so much and while it could be real messy at times I still had fun and HSR was my fave HSU book for a long while! But unless things somehow magically improve with the next few updates and the final is good I don't feel good about making HSR fanart again.

As for this piece, I used the same kind of colouring style I did for my Amon OVA wedding pieces but came up with my own colour palette and I'm really proud of how this came out and it was nice to draw fanart of a different series and stretch my semi realistic style muscles a bit, I should try to do that more often really lol XD

DVMNINKTOBER Day 18 Fave Antagonist

Day eighteen is fave antagonist and well... I had to do my favorite antagonist of all the devilman verse, The Slum King from Violence Jack!

The Slum King is a cruel monster, a symbol of terror and oppression and the consequence of denying someone humanity and person hood. His cruel deeds leave you in horror and you cheer for his eventual defeat at Jack's hands at the end.

And at the end we discover that along he was Zennon and was made into Ryo/Satan's tormentor by Satan himself! And that he is also the dark part of Satan's heart, his self-hatred embodied in the form of a cruel and childish superhuman with too much power and no accountability. Its interesting the dark part of Satan's heart is... Zennon which leaves some interesting implications of their relationship to consider and that's what makes me really enjoy the Slum King as a villain, he's a monster but a complex monster nonetheless!

He is both fearsome and a true threat to Jack and their clashes together are so epic to behold! And he is pitiable but you never forget how much of a monster he is. His design is amazing even if its a bitch to draw, big respect to Go Nagai for drawing this bastard for nearly twenty years so well and never missing on the details and if he had an inker while working on VJ then big shout out to them too, those details are a pain to ink! XD

With this picture I wanted to try to make the inking a little like how the Slum King is drawn in the manga and kept the shading as simple as possible, and oh my goodness this took me hours to work on the inking alone! 😭😭😭

But I do love how its all turned out and I'm real proud of it ngl.

and of course I couldn't forget the Slum King's toy, Ryo, a thing he actually said in the manga @_@ Poor Ryo... but don't worry he'll be rescued soon!

DVMNINKTOBER Day 17 DVMN Lady Anime

Disclaimer: I know not everyone likes the manga version of Devilman Lady but I thought some of the ideas were good and should've been developed better, and I have no interest in debating whether the manga or the anime is better, or whether the manga's ending is bad or not. The Devilman Lady anime is its own thing and I do think was better done in how it did its own story line as it was more focused.  

Day seventeen is Devilman Lady and I thought I'd do two versions of this prompt one for the manga and one for the anime! it took me a lot more time than I had first thought it would XD

I have quite a lot of the Devilman Lady anime and I do really like how it focuses on the horror of the beast that lingers in the Devilbeasts and within Jun herself and her self-hatred of her Devilman side. I feel out of all of the characters in the anime Jun is the most well realized and there are a great moments that explore her dual sides, the normal human being trying to do her best and see the humanity in the devilbeasts and the violence side of her.

And I wanted to reflect that in this version of the prompt, while I did have an general idea of how I wanted it to look I wanted to have that similar feel the manga version had with human Jun being frightened and conflicted and Devilman! Jun killing a Devilbeast. I decided to give this piece a purple tint since that's the colour of the devilbeasts' blood in the anime and shows that Jun's hands will always be soaked with blood no matter what.

This was a tricky piece to get started on but once I did truly throw myself into it, it really came about faster than I expected and was a lot of fun to make!

Now the Devilman Lady manga is a mess that's well known but I don't think its all bad, and I think knowing the big spoiler that Jun and Ran are two halves of Satan enhances the reading experience as it helps for the viewer to see better the hints and foreshadowing of it.

While the manga didn't go into it like I would've liked it to, I love the idea of seeing Satan willingly try to redeem themselves by becoming Jun and try to love and save humanity and dealing with the lingering regret of their past actions. So I decided to show the confliction Jun and Ran have within themselves about Jun's Devilman nature and of course their true nature and the regret over their past sins they had committed when they were once Satan.

This was a tricky piece but very fun to make once made myself get down to work, as was the anime version of this prompt! XD Again I played around with different brushes and textures here and I think it really adds a lot to it and I wanted to keep the feel of the Devilman Lady manga's art but adding a big touch of the Amon OVA art style.

DVMNINKTOBER Day 16 Baton

Day sixteen is Baton and I knew I had to draw the symbolic moment in Devilman Crybaby where Miki passes on the baton to Akira for him to keep going as the mob surround her and start to tear her apart for standing up for the Devilmen of the world. As I've said before that moment never fails to make me cry ugly tears because Miki in Crybaby merely tried to do the right thing and was targeted and torn apart for it and it feels so relevant to our real world right now.

I've decided to try something a little different with this piece with using a different inking brush for the inking and shading and I really like it here, it gives the piece that nice rougher feel to it which feels fitting for this prompt. This was emotionally a lot to make but I'm happy with how it came out and I'm glad I get to share it with you all now!

Archangel Raphael from Astrea's Broken Heart

And now for something completely different! XD Back in March there was an announcement on the official Romance Club telegram of a contest to design Raphael from Astrea's Broken Heart new outfit and a friend of mine suggested I go for it and I thought why not since I love Raphael in Astrea's Broken Heart and are currently romancing him on one of my accounts (I'm also romancing Felonia on my main account and she gives me all of the feels damn it!)

I adore Raphael from Astrea's Broken Heart so much, he gives me so many soft and sad feelings in his route, he is so gentle and sweet to the MC and is very creative as in how he likes to play music and painting and I love how this soft hearted man is also very powerful but also carrying such a heavy burden on his shoulders. 😭

So in my design for the contest I wanted to reflect Raphael's creative personality in the paint stains on his clothes but also show off how he tends to be portrayed in religious art

which is why he has a staff and wears mostly brown here. I also gave him and his wings a nice big glow since when its revealed that he is thee Archangel Raphael he glows beautifully with awesome and powerful light. Sadly I didn't place at all, but its fine after looking at the winners I see that they were looking for something different to what I had made and the winners designs are quite lovely so congrats to them! I never expected to win and just wanted to try out something different since I really do love Raphael and drawing him was very fun and I think I would like to play around with making outfit designs for characters again sometime, even if its not for a contest, its a good practice to do as an artist me thinks.
