Nobody who is against AI is also pro-harassment of artist, you're imagining hypocrisy out of ethical consistency. Both are bad.
That's quite a statement to make considering I see AI artists get harassed like constantly. Hell, a popular cat account on here got so much shit for just posting a single AI generated cat picture.
AI artists are artists too. You can't just say no artists are getting harassed with the implied asterisk that you don't consider anyone who uses AI a "real artist" and thus it's ok if they get harassed.

hi, I have nowhere else to post this, so I'm telling you just because I'm so fucking angry and flabbergasted and you're the only person I know of who posts about trans issues, but I just saw an article claim that nex benedict /committed suicide/ and it made me want to Scream.
Ugh, wtf? That's awful. Trans ppl can't be left in peace even when we die.

shamebats i just started my big girl corporate job! any tips for how to survive it?
Act enthusiastic af and make a good impression at the beginning so you have a reputation when you want to start slacking off, learn to make really nice looking presentations if that's part of your job, learn to use Excel (it's office magic and can actually be fun to mess around with) and when you find ways to complete tasks faster, don't tell a soul, take that time you saved and enjoy it, you've earned it, and remember, if anyone asks you're sooo busy today, every day.

Yo yooooooo I went in a bouldering cave and flipped myself upside down and it was so fun but I def left chalk all over the floor and I felt really bad about it and also I was super not supposed to be flipping upside down but it was so fun and I was trying to impress a girl
I see no problem with this. Chalk is temporary. Girls are forever.

hey fucker, you happy that Tumblr is scraping your data now? or is this a "i didn't think they'd eat my face sort of thing
Oh honey, all of Tumblr has been scraped alongside everything else years ago.
Anything you post to the internet is public and can be downloaded, saved and reposted by anyone. Never share anything you wouldn't want that to happen to. I was taught this in computer class when I was like 13. Everything you post on social media sites is data for them to do with as they please, including sell it. This is also common knowledge. If you aren't paying, you're the product.
The internet isn't a place where you can trust that strangers will respect your wishes. You can put "do not steal" on your stuff all you want, the honor system only works if everyone is honorable - meaning it doesn't work on the internet.
You can say that's not right and that there should be better protections in place and you can also advocate for that, but right now we can't be surprised when a business that exists to make money off of users, which it's quite bad and needs to get better at to survive under capitalism, tries anything they legally can to make more money off of their users.

Is impossible meats vegan? I hear conflicting things
If no animals had to suffer and die for it, it's vegan. If you mean like impossible burgers then yes, definitely vegan, why wouldn't it be?

About Ai art, I personally believe it could do a lot of good IF they had the consent of the artist the ai trains on because now many AI programs are being trained in a way small artists who already struggle to make a living. I think Ideally the companies could pay the artists whose images they use to train their AI with but I know it will be unlikely, I don’t think AI art is the problem but how it is being used right now in a way that small artist are collateral damage to it’s development and people making AI art and sell it are profiting while the artists whose art is stolen are in a shitty position. I wish they would develope art AI’s in a more ethical way but under capitalism that is unlikely that is all, hope you have a good day!
It's a nice thought but this isn't just rich corporations vs artists, there are in sheer numbers way more researchers and individuals who play around with MLAs locally on their own computers as a hobby and don't make any money off of it.
Something like that would just make it so it becomes inaccessible to most individuals, leaving corporations who already own huge amounts of data to have a monopoly on the tech. Just like copyright laws generally don't work in artists' favor, this wouldn't either.
There's no reason for me to believe that companies like Adobe, Reddit, Twitter, Tumblr, DevianArt, Pinterest and all other for-profit websites that host data wouldn't just update their terms of service to make it so everything you post (text, images, video, audio) will be legally owned by them. Because if you make data even more profitable, you can bet corporations would take that and run with it.
I feel like ppl used to be more aware of that back in the day, I remember "everything you post to the internet will stay on the internet, anyone can download it" being basic safety advice and I feel like it's only getting more necessary to be aware of this. It's not just art. Every time you post something, even if it's just a text-only shitpost, that can and will be picked up by web crawlers. Not saying it's a good thing but that's the current reality. Not even massive corporations like Disney can do anything about it. Bing doesn't stop me from doing this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the prompt for this one was literally "AI stealing copyrighted Disney & Pixar characters")
Something like a publicly available opt-in only dataset created as a community-project could become a better alternative in the future. Especially if the anti-AI push does empower corporations to a push for copyright laws that would give them the upper hand. It would take a long time to gather the necessary data that way but it might end up being a way for hobbyists, researchers and artists to continue using AI if it becomes pay-walled.

Any tips for newbie vegans? I cut out dairy milk, but sadly I do still use things w dairy as an ingredient. But I've switched to dairy free yogurts, I also am trying vegan meats slowly. My issue is I have ARFID and I already hate most foods, both vegan and non vegan. I'm very picky but I really wanna make this work! I never eat eggs, so that's one thing already that's a perk. Also any tips for ignoring people like DairyIsntScary and all the rest of the anti vegan hot takes on tumblr?
That's pretty much how I switched from meat eater to vegetarian and then vegan - gradually replacing foods & adding new ones is the best way to do it especially as a picky eater or someone with dietary restrictions. There's no need to rush it. Just keep at it & eventually you'll get to a point where you'll feel like you're doing the best you can.
I simply blocked a lot of accounts with popular anti vegan posts. There's no reason for me to be exposed to the same fallacious arguments over and over again, if I wanted that I'd just mention I'm vegan to literally any meat eater irl.

Hi, quick question - do you actually know what genocide is? I'm curious if you're calling the Israeli-Hamas war a genocide because you're ignorant, or if you're doing it intentionally because it negates the *actual* genocide that was the precident for the creation of the state of Israel.
War crimes =/= genocide.
Displaced people =/= genocide.
The death of civilians =/= genocide.
Taking land in a war =/= genocide.
Israel is not trying to exterminate all Palestinians. Israel isn't making it illegal to be Palestinian. Israel isn't taking Palestinian children and stripping them of their names and identities, shipping them off, and raising them as Israeli. Israel is not systemically slaughtering Palestinians like cattle.
You can think that what Israel is doing is awful and should be stopped without calling it a genocide. The word has a specific meaning; it doesn't just mean "a war that you don't like." Hell, it doesn't even mean "a country committing war crimes and killing civilians." It's worse than that.
"Israel is not systemically slaughtering Palestinians like cattle" have you been paying any attention at all??
What the fuck do you call it when entire extended families of people of a certain nationality, who've been living in an apartheid state/open air concentration camps their entire lives, get exterminated with nobody left behind? When are we allowed to start calling it a genocide? When everyone's already dead and Palestine is no more? When all of the children are dead?
It's stated clearly enough in the South African case document: “The acts and omissions by Israel complained of by South Africa are genocidal in character because they are intended to bring about the destruction of a substantial part of the Palestinian national, racial and ethnical group”

I understand your position on ai art, I have a different position just cuz after learning about ai in grad school (i took courses on computer vision, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, etc) i am against almost all forms of ai art and chat gpt because the way that the data was gathered is super unethical (in my opinion). I have other reasons why I'm against chat gpt and ai art, but that is the main reason. They scrape the internet and take all the images they can find, or just ask of the text. It's one thing when it's the Wikipedia corpus (a dataset widely used for research) and a completely different thing to me when they scrape ao3 and wattpad and ebooks and transcripts. Chat gpt is just plagiarism, but fancy. They are paid services that charge for their use of stolen data. Its a mind boggling amount of data needed to train ai. To create good results on that scale, you need more data than the widely available research data, you have to steal. And they just stole it from wherever. I am against ai art & chat gpt bc i don't think that those companies have a right to charge for their software when the software only works bc they stole so much data.
That's a valid stance to have, I don't really have a strong opinion on it. I get why ppl don't like the way the data was gathered but I also get that it would've been very difficult for researchers to get access to big enough volumes of data to train algorithms on in a way that would involve getting consent from everyone involved and also compensating them.
Like every technology, it has a lot of potential to be used unethically. Like cars. I fucking hate cars. I hate big oil. I hate the auto industry. I'd do anything to avoid ever owning a car and I'd prefer it if personal cars weren't a thing, they kill absurd amounts of ppl, make the world unsafe, kill the planet and are one of the main caused of child death. But I also realize that there's no going back. Cars are here & they're useful to a lot of ppl. Occasionally, I'll sit my ass down in one and even enjoy it. I won't pretend that I think they're good, but I also won't go around telling ppl they're horrible for owning or driving a car when they could be taking public transport.
It's way more useful to educate & push for a more ethics in an industry than just demonize it imo. Devs are at this point very aware of the ethical responsibility they have with AI & I have hope that it can go in a more positive direction if they're held accountable by the public & other ppl from the field.

hiiii!!! you obviously dont have to answer this if you dont want to, but im basically looking for some advice and i know you're a) trans, b) have a cis partner, and c) have quite kinky sex (i think, right?) so i wonder if you might have any insight. I (cis, gay female) have been chatting with an nb transfem on tinder for a few days and on wednesday we plan to meet and - all going well - hook up, i guess? My only question is I'm not very experienced in the bedroom. like at all. and my new friend likes to be dommed and i am just such a not dominant human being, and also dont even really know how sex works. the idea of pegging them and other things makes me so excited, but i guess im asking do you have any tips for feeling more comfortable and confident doing kinky stuff? please and thank you and again feel free to ignore
I would personally be nervous to top or dom with someone if it was my first time and they didn't know, it's hard work and you're probably not going to be any good at it at first so it's good to talk about it beforehand in a non-sexual setting, just have a chat and put all your cards on the table and discuss how you're going to do it, preferences, no-no's, anything you think needs to be out in the open. Not only is it important from a consent aspect, it'll also serve to reassure you and if the discussion leaves you feeling more confident and less intimidated, then you'll probably be compatible as well. If you're both rather inexperienced, you can figure things out together and if your partner is more experienced, they can show you the ropes. Both can be lots of fun. It's like sports. Sometimes we'll both do a new activity together and both learn how to do it together, but sometimes one of us is already good at it and will guide the other. But nobody should be expected to just be good at it right away, the first time is more of a test run, don't worry if it's a bit awkward.
You can give domming a try but it's not for everyone, like...my partner can't dom to save his life, he's too much of a teddy bear for it and that's fine, I'll probably explore that sort of dynamic with someone else in the future, but what we have now works perfectly for us simply bc we've figured it out together.

according to my gothic lit teacher, vampire blood drinking is an allegory for sex, specifically penetrative sex. which is why it’s always women getting attacked by male vampires. fang = penis. So female vampires are seen as pushy and seductive idk vixens, and male vampires in literature never attack other men. Vampire stories condemn sex out of wedlock, which is why in Dracula, Lucy (unmarried) becomes evil and gets killed after being attacked by a vampire (having sex) and Mina (married) gets to live when her husband saves her.
Yeah I know, I just like to shitpost about vampire lore sometimes. It's fun to place the myth into the modern era and imagine what vampires would act like if they weren't defined by the misogyny, homophobia & antisemitism of our ancestors.
