ahhh Mod i really like your method for how monster babies are made! (my fave headcanons for monster babies are the ones where they just kinda appear so yours has been added to my list). but i'm wondering for headcanon reasons, since monsters can't touch a baby soul but they mentioned having to watch over the soul to make sure nothing happens to it, how exactly would that be done? man if i had to babysit my niece and nephew (if they were souls) without touching them i'd be panicking nonstop lol

((Heya anon! Your ask has been sitting in my inbox for MONTHS, maybe a year or more by now, because I originally intended to answer these questions with the Monster Child comic I started at the beginning of this blog, but that’s never going to be finished, soooo here is an extremely late answer to this!

Thankfully the phase where the child cannot be touched is relatively short–the time depends on what types of monster the parents are, but it’s usually anywhere from a couple weeks to seven or eight months. 

See, the reason the new soul cannot be touched is because baby monsters are formed from pieces of their parents’ souls, and in the very early stages, the parents’ souls haven’t meshed together enough to start…well, literally taking on a life of their own, so until the souls are sufficiently fused together, any touch will result in the parents’ souls returning to their original owners. After the new soul is pretty well merged together the parents can touch their child without any ill effect. So, yeah, thankfully it’s really only during the “pregnancy” that it’s an issue. 

As far as how they’d deal with it during that period, though, the parents will typically stay within a few yards of the soul day and night, often taking shifts to watch the soul. Generally the soul will stay in one place, so the parents will make a temporary “nest” where they can sit as close as possible to the developing child, as monster children need their parents’ love to grow properly (and if the parents are neglectful or develop negative emotions surrounding the child, the child can either wither and die or become something horrible). It’s a bit of a demanding time for the parents and requires some serious restructuring of their schedule, but thankfully it’s something that’s well understood within monster society and other monsters will often step in and help out by bringing the expectant parents food, helping with housework/jobs if the partner isn’t available, etc. 

For Papyrus and Undyne in particular, Papyrus was the one that mostly watched over Arial, especially earlier on, since Undyne’s job was much more demanding and, well, she was a little more unsure about having kids than he was. And, you know, not needing to sleep or eat that much certainly helped. He made use of his magic by creating a little bone barrier around the soul and read book after book to her, and once he and Undyne were able to talk things out and decide to have Arial after all, Undyne reinforced his barrier with some spears and spent her time watching the baby developing a training regimen worthy of her offspring. Papyrus vetoed most of it, though, arguing that suplexes should be saved until at least two years of age.))

So, gonna be completely honest with you guys--I’ve essentially left tumblr by now. The only reason I’m on this blog is because it’s on an entirely separate account from my personal (which I have zero intent of returning to) and I’d had kind of a wild bout of inspiration building up for a bit. 

I’ll be really blunt here. I don’t know if I’m gonna update this blog. If I do, I don’t know when it’ll happen. I’m really, really grateful to everyone who’s given their support and love to this blog, and it really amazes me that so many people seem to care. I just don’t wanna get your hopes up that I’m ~back for realsies~ now only to disappoint you. You all are awesome and I love you. But unfortunately tumblr--and really social media in general to a certain extent--kind of became little more than a very frustrating, stressful time-waster, and with a full-time job starting in a couple weeks and a social life outside the ‘net that I’d like to maintain, there’s not really much of a place for spending a ton of time on here.

I’ll be answering an ask or two that have been sitting in my inbox re: my headcanons, and after that, well...we’ll see where this goes.

I hope you all enjoy what’s here, regardless of whether or not I end up adding to it.))

Arial: ...your senpai! 

Cutie: My what?

Arial: Your senpai! I’m your super cool older mentor that teaches you everything I know! And you’re my kouhai!

Cutie: What?

Arial: I can’t believe this! I get to be a senpai! Just like Tamaki or one of those other really cool guys!

Cutie: Tamaki?

Arial: I have to take my position seriously! This is such an honor! I’ll show you all the most important things I know! [gasp] And I know exactly where to start!

Cutie: What?

Arial: CLIMBING TREES!

Cutie: Is that really, like, the most important thing you know?

Arial: It’s the most important thing ever! Now, um…what’s your name?

Update

While the final verdict is still out on my bills, R. Hamlin’s car was totalled and he will have to purchase another. This comes after a mechanical malfunction wiped out the car before this one earlier this year, which he was still paying off.

His insurance will not cover the car or my medical bills (it only covers the other car/its passengers), and he had to use almost all of his money to get the wreckage out of impound when it was towed.

I hate to do this, I hate to ask others for help, but we need it. There’s a chance that I can manage my hospital bills (surgery will be required) but without a car, R. Hamlin can’t work, which leaves us both without income for the time being.

((Hey everybody. I haven’t been on here in over a month, so I’m gonna level with you guys here.

This past...well, this past month or so in particular, but really the past year-ish, maybe even longer than that, has been really, really rough for me. I’ve had a lot of shit happening with my family that’s left me pretty broken up. I’ve been fighting off bouts of depression and, as a result, my desire to partake in fandom and tumblr has been taking a pretty big hit. I’ve found a new series that’s really been helping me get through all this, and that’s a big part of what’s keeping me afloat right now, but unfortunately that also means my creativity relating to anything outside that new interest has kind of fallen by the wayside. 

I have no intention of leaving the Undertale fandom forever or abandoning this ask blog, but as of right now this blog simply is not a priority for me and UT is definitely not my main fandom anymore. I do still enjoy Arial and have things I want to share with you guys, and I absolutely still appreciate all the questions and the enthusiasm you all have for it, but each ask takes me a lot of time and effort and honestly with the way the UT fandom at large treats its content creators (I’ve known of several that have been bullied off within the past year) and all the drama and bullshit I’ve had to go through here Undertale is a bit of a touchy spot for me at the moment. I just don’t have the energy for a whole lot right now, and I’ve kinda gotta prioritize my mental health and keeping myself from going under, and right now I think doing that means focusing on what’s making me happy in the moment and leaving this blog on the backburner. 

I’m sorry, it really pains me to say this, but I’m not gonna lie to you all. I know I haven’t been the most regular with updates anyway, so I suppose it won’t really matter anyway. 

At any rate, thanks for listening and for enjoying my blog. Whenever I do update, I hope you guys will like it. <3 ))

20. Are you religious?

((Nah, I used to be Christian when I was younger but I left the faith years ago. Nowadays I call myself an atheist because that’s the simplest way to put it. If you wanna get specific, though, I’m about a 6 on the Dawkins scale--I consider it extremely unlikely that a god/gods exist, but I acknowledge that we really can’t know for sure. So technically I believe that would put me in the camp of agnostic atheism.

I do think that it is entirely possible that something greater than us exists--something along the lines of fate, or some kind of divine law like karma, I just really, really don’t think it takes the form of a god.

Also, don’t worry, I’m not one of those assholes that thinks religious people are stupid or something lol faith does a lot of good things for a lot of people it just doesn’t work for me))
