Dark Chocolate and Maraschino Cherry

This year for MEIKO’s birthday I have helped organize and do promotional artwork for an overseas MEIKO compilation album! It is titled “Dark Chocolate and Maraschino Cherry” based on MEIKO’s color scheme! A lot of love and hard work has gone into this project already, especially from our project leader, @lystrialle. Please support it if you can! We appreciate all forms of support, including spreading the word and sharing! We were fully funded in four hours and absolutely floored over the super positive reception we received, but there is still a stretch goal we’d like to make!

5 years ago today, I first posted on this askblog in the hopes of being able to develop a cartoony art style as well as make a version of MEIKO that was my own and interact with others through her. She’s changed a lot beyond just the art style. For one, I think she’s a lot more over-confident than she used to be, and I feel like her legacy is now being proposed to a lot and somehow being people’s dad lol. At some point it feels like she just grew a mind of her own and started answering questions however she wanted.

It’s been a fun five years, thank you for sticking with her (and me) and seeing us develop! I know I haven’t answered very much in five whole years (i’msosorryomfi’mawful), but I hope the ride hasn’t been too disappointing, huh?

Yes I'm sorry if I upset you I by no means came to say it with any ill intentions I just wanted you to talk about it and rant so you could help me like her more and change my mind I wasn't bashing on MEIKO or anything

I understand that you weren’t bashing on MEIKO. What frustrates me is that you are acting as though it’s not your own choice whether to like or dislike MEIKO. I don’t mind that you dislike her, what bothers me is that you dislike her over something very petty. It’s not her fault that KaiMei shippers have annoyed you, and for that I’m sorry it must be truly frustrating for you to put up with that and I hope I didn’t come off as undermining your frustrations over it. But really, I just don’t understand why you’re taking this out on her?

I luckily haven’t had any KaiMei people bothering me for not really shipping it and shipping MEIKO with other people, probably because I’m not very popular, but if I did, I certainly wouldn’t take it out on KAITO and hold a grudge against him because that just makes no sense. You, being a KAITO fan, would feel upset by that too wouldn’t you? It’s not as though MEIKO is asking to be shipped with him all the time or to have these people bug you.

You did upset me, anon. And it especially upsets me coming from a KAITO fan because I have always liked KAITO and have gotten along well with other KAITO fans and all the ones I know feel like a family to me. Usually MEIKO and KAITO fans have a mutual respect and understanding due to the fact that these 2 are often the most overshadowed of the Crypton bunch, though MEIKO is more so than KAITO but that’s another thing entirely. I accept your apology, and I don’t know how to convince you to change your mind about her because it’s not my place to do it. You either choose to like her or you don’t. I’d like to be able to change your mind because MEIKO could always use more fans, but it’s all up to you and if you want to stop disliking her, you need to start by not placing the blame for what other people have done on MEIKO.

I really want to like MEIKO but every time I try she's always being shipped with KAITO and it just makes me dislike her because I really like KAITO and I don't like the ship and when I try to ship him with someone else everyone brings me down and says he belongs with MEIKO *ONLY* but I do want to like her but i just don't know...I'm sorry to rant like this especially since you love her, but is KAIMEI Your OTP?

Look, anon, I can’t tell you what you should like and what you should dislike. You say that other people drive you away from MEIKO due to shipping, but that’s all up to you. Disliking MEIKO over shipping reasons, that’s all your decision, anon. KaiMei obviously isn’t canon and if you have people constantly policing you over shipping something else then all I can say is that you have surrounded yourself with the wrong people.

What I wanna say to you is simply that MEIKO gets enough unnecessary, unwarranted hate as is, disliking her because she gets shipped with your fave a lot is a very dumb reason. Sorry I’m not sugar coating, but you’ve knowingly come to someone who loves her dearly so I hope you were prepared. 

To answer your question, no, KaiMei is not my otp but I can appreciate it every once in a while. The thing about that ship is that I was turned off from it some while ago now due to the fact that MEIKO is usually just a side character in that relationship and everyone always cares about KAITO more. And you know what I did? I didn’t hold a grudge. Not against KAITO, because he is just a voice synthesizer and I actually still love him. Not against the shippers, many of which I am still friends with, because people with differing opinions can be friends. And not even against the ship itself, because I know that I can just create my own version of it that better suits me. Even if you’ll never like the ship, you can like the 2 characters individually. I don’t understand why that is such a hard concept.

I was gonna try to convince you to like MEIKO, because like I said earlier, there’s enough people hating her for stupid reasons as is, but I guess I can’t. It’s really all on you. You don’t like her? Fine. At least give her a chance as a singer rather than someone just getting in the way of your shipping preferences. She’s her own character too, not just someone to blame for being shipped with KAITO a lot. She’s just doing her best singing for people too. Give her a chance maybe? I don’t know.

I hold no ill will toward you, anon. If you choose to stop disliking her for dumb shipping reasons, hit me up and I can recommend you some great MEIKO songs. She’s great and vastly underappreciated for all that she’s done for this fandom.
