finally got motivation to write and research my frank woods fic WILL be coming alive and flourishing within the next 36 hours

to add back onto this, i have grown up in a conservative family. a large portion of my family members are maga despite being mexican (and immigrants themselves!!) so yes, i too grew up around a lot of racism, ultra-religious beliefs and more crap. yet, i grew, realized how wrong they are and never looked back. so once again, i don't really get how you would get away from all that, become more progressive, and then have it all fall down because you want some attention. truly mind boggling.

now that hayden/ethel cain has released her statement and i've read over it a few times, i want to share my thoughts and feelings on this situation as a whole.

i have been a fan of her music since early 2023, and her art has gotten me through several phases of my life since then. i didn't start getting into her as a person (ex: her youtube vlogs, art acct on insta, tumblr accts, etc) until late last year when she started teasing perverts.

i've loved her music because she touches on subjects that not a lot of mainstream artists dare to. (im calling her mainstream because she has been blowing up quite a lot these past few months and has 4.4m monthly listeners) her music is an exploration of discomfort and trauma and themes that many fans of hers can relate to.

i cannot speak on most of the racism she had posted in the past as someone who is mexican, but seeing her comment of her saying "build that wall!" definitely hurt considering our current state of the country with this fuckass administration. but, i will say she has grown tremendously in that aspect by protesting for the ice raids and unlawful deportations (and not being performative about it), sharing resources, speaking out against ice agents and the trump administration, and much more she has done for my community.

but, the people who were fighting tooth and nail to prove her innocent before she cleared anything up, y'all are just as bad. just because she grew up conservative in the bible belt, does not give any excuse for the rancid comments she made as a 19 year old who admittedly know what she was doing. at the end of the day, she is white.

i do think she could have had a much better apology, especially towards black people since they were the main targets (as always, unfortunately) in those racist comments. in her statement, she didn't mention black people once, and instead harped on about how it was a huge smear campaign on her and not apologizing to the black community directly and instead saying she knew what she was doing and saying.

i'm not trying to say that this wasn't a smear campaign, but i think focusing more on actually apologizing and acknowledging those she hurt rather than on herself would have been more beneficial. it is not entirely my place to accept this apology, but i will say it was well-written for the most part.

that's all i have to say for now, feel free to tell me your thoughts on this. i may have more later since this still needs to sit with me and this was a bit unorganized and maybe worded weird. definitely gonna go touch some grass now lol.

something about this artwork just makes me feel so, so sad and triggers my maternal instincts. seeing ethel with twin braids, in a field of flowers with nostalgic lighting, so young. a stark contrast to the ethel we know in preacher's daughter. seeing her with her one true love, willoughby, only hopeful for her future because she had him. i feel like i mourn her like an actual person sometimes lol i just love hayden's storywriting and her mind.
