Klaytab

Rune’s older brother. Klaytab is a corporate admin who works for a company that handles securing and trading materials from the frontier to the core systems. Though his job is stressful and tiring, Klaytab is still a swell guy. He is also the one who taught the couriers the basics of managing a business, as well as the person they seek council from for non-combat problems.

Klaytab is married to his wife Serifi who he adores, and has a baby daughter, Scribble. Klaytab is impressed by his little brother’s adventurous spirit, but is perfectly happy to enjoy is quiet life with his young family, listening to Rune’s travels rather than live through them himself.

Etchi

Rune’s little sister, Etchi is an apprentice shipwright who works at the fringe between the core systems and the frontier on an orbital platform. She handles the maintenance for the couriers’ ship. Etchi often appears gloomy, though this is just due to sleep deprivation from her long shifts, she’s actually quite friendly.

Etchi greatly looks up to her older brother, seeing him as a cool adventurer. This doesn’t stop her from scolding Rune and his friends whenever they bring their ship by in horrid condition from their insane adventures. She always loves to hear the stories of Rune’s adventures (Rune leaves out the more dangerous things he’s gotten himself into to avoid making her worried)

As a princess, Arijotyr is occasionally called to her home planet to attend a Royal ball or gala, mostly to tell tales of her heroic deeds to the kingdom’s allies. As her partner, Lota comes along as well. Not only are the king and queen supportive of their daughter’s relationship, they actually commissioned Lota’s formal attire to match Ari’s.

Lota isn’t the biggest fan of formal events, but to be able to spend a night with his beloved, dancing, and seeing her happily talk of her adventures to a captivated audience brings him a joy he wouldn’t trade for anything.

“A vindictive captor vs an uncaring murderer for hire. Two fallen heroes are locked in a greusome duel. There are no intentions of justice or love behind their fight, only greed and selfishness. Should one or both be slaughtered in their visceral battle, the wretch will have died as they lived, for themself.”

A horror crossover that was chosen by people on Insta back in October: Synthetik vs Night Angel from Stephanie Swan Quill’s horror audio series: Shadows and Stardust. This is a fun match up, mainly because villain vs villain fights are goated. I actually have outcomes for this encounter, but I’m not posting either here until they’re both done.

“More arms just means I can hug you tighter!”

Lota did NOT have a fun childhood. Drafted from birth to be a soldier, he never met his parents or any of his siblings. The only “affirmation” Lota got as a kid was getting knocked around by his officers for insubordination (real and perceived).

When Arijotyr learned that Lota was never even hugged growing up, she made it her personal mission to give him a big one anytime he looks blue or frustrated. Lota isn’t used to positive touch, but Ari’s willingness to give it to him so generously is part of the reason he loves her.

Rune

The crew’s pilot and weapons “expert.” Unlike his friends, Rune doesn’t have any major augmentations besides reflex enhancements for his piloting skills. Instead, he mostly relies on his power suit and a comically massive arsenal of guns that his suit can conjure for him at a moments notice (Rune has a bit of an issue LEARNING how to use his guns)

Rune is a bit more timid than his battle-hardened friends, but is dedicated to keep improving so he won’t be dead weight on deliveries.

(Fun fact: his tail is prehensile and cybernetically enchanced)

Ever the economic type, when Synthetik kills a target with impressive abilities (be they cyborg or organic), he harvests their bodies and sells their superpowered pieces for pocket money (he’s facing charges in multiple systems for corpse desecration.)

Arijotyr: Warrior Princess

Ari is a Gekrom, a race of arachnids who rule a great empire. As a young noble, Arijotyr is on her “Proving Quest.” She is tasked with performing great deeds and feats of heroism for one century, upon completion, her place in her family’s royal court will be decided based on the impact her labors have produced.

Ari tagged along with fellow wanderers Lota and Rune as a courier. Trouble always seems to find Lota, and with trouble and scoundrels aplenty, Arijotyr is ecstatic to conquer every challenge that comes her way.

Synthetik: Seraph Overdrive

“Seraph Overdrive” is Synthetik at his most powerful. He achieves this by overclocking his antimatter reactor. The sheer amount of energy causes him to vent excess antiparticles from his back, creating the illusion of six wings and a halo like the angels the SERA Series cyborgs were named after. In this state, the lethality of his body’s abilities increase 10 fold.

In overdrive, Synthetik’s mere presence can be lethal. The field of antimatter generated by his wings causes random annihilations to whatever (or whoever) is in it, as antiparticles clash with baryonic matter.

As powerful as it is, Synthetik is incredibly cautious with his overdrive. The sheer destructive nature of it renders the ability detrimental in covert missions and especially in any security or escort missions. He can only keep his overdrive active for 30 minutes, any longer and the magnetic field that protects him from his antimatter field will begin to fail, leaving him at risk of getting killed by his own ability. Finally, because the sheer energy surge is so taxing, most of his body’s functions hard-reset after he powers down, leaving him vulnerable for a few hours. Synthetik only resorts to Seraph Overdrive if he know he won’t be in immediate danger after using it, or if he is very VERY desperate.

A boy who is determined to be the hero for others that he never had, and a man who cast aside his heroism and surrendered himself to his selfish desires.

To Lota, Synthetik is a cautionary tale. No matter how hard things get, Lota is determined to NEVER give in to his cynicism or despair, lest he end up like the unfeeling merc.
