🍓 Strawberry Switchel 🍓🍹 . . A switchel is a drink that originated in the Caribbean and later became popular in American Colonies. It was often served to farmers during the Summer months to help them stay hydrated, plus it has electrolytes. All you need is 6 simple, whole food ingredients! Grab some fresh strawberries, and slice them. Get a large 8-cup mason jar or a large pitcher that has a lid and put the sliced strawberries in it. Then add all of the other ingredients – raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar, raw honey or quality maple syrup, fresh sliced up ginger, fresh lemon juice and top it off with a bunch of filtered water. Cover the mason jar or pitcher with a lid and shake the Switchel to mix it all up. Then pop it in the refrigerator to chill overnight. How easy is that?! 🌸 PEONY BATH SALTS RECIPE 🌸

Recipe number 10 of Atomic Botanical Apothecary. Peonies are garden show stoppers but they only bloom once a year in Spring. To savor their beauty and scent, you can dry them by hanging them upside down in bunches of three and then using them in recipes and dried flower arrangements. Enjoy!

Here’s the full artwork for Sweet Dreams Sleep Potion!

Introducing recipe number 6 in the Atomic Botanical Apothecary series, my ongoing weekly passion project where I illustrate recipes for home made aromatherapy potions for body and mind. 

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit. It has been used for centuries. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain. Essential oils are basically plant extracts. They're made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance. 

The combination of ylang ylang, sandalwood and lavender are used for relaxation, to relieve stress and anxiety and promote good sleep. I like to mix mine in a roller bottle for easy application.As always, take care and sweet dreams!

I’m excited to share the first recipe and illustration for my new project, Atomic Botanical Apothecary. It is a relaxing oatmeal milk bath with herbs and essential oils. I used lavender and lemon verbena for mine, but you can use your favorite oils and herbs to make it your own.  

I soaked in this milk bath tonight for a few minutes before I made dinner for my family, and it was rejuvenating and grounding. I’ve been finding pockets of time throughout my days to exercise, talk or text with family, and practice self care so that I have the energy to get through these long days of shelter in place. I hope you will find these recipes as useful and enjoyable as I have!
