An EEnE oc that I originally made when I was thirteen and then revived and revamped back in April. Meet Mackenzie DeLisle, a grumpy loner who’s the daughter of a horror author and is fueled only by caffeine and her drive to educate herself on and get concrete evidence of the cryptids that she’s convinced are everywhere. Ed is her right hand man during her trips into the woods. She initially turned him down when he asked to join her search, but later admitted that his strength and vast knowledge on movie monsters would make him a great help, and he proved to be just that. Everyone (especially Double D) may think she’s crazy, but she knows her and Ed will prove them all wrong when they get clear pictures of Bigfoot or the Peach Creek Monster. She’s also the type of person who legitimately believes that the moon landing was faked, birds are government controlled drones, and redheads are the descendants of an alien race. If the ten cups of coffee a day didn’t keep her up at night, these conspiracies that she tries to combat from a place of unfounded paranoia definitely would.

The stigma of self-inserts is so harmful to the creative process. Relax. Admit it. Everything you make is derivative of yourself, always, no exceptions. You can turn the mirror into tinier and tinier shards or you can make it as big as you want to reflect as much as you want. At the end of the day it's always going to show you inside of it. Pretending otherwise is stupid.

I love how you can see Ernie reacting to Ernestine copying his laugh and being noticably taken aback. It's such a small detail that adds a lot more humanlike expression to dolls that don't have eyebrows or moving eyelids or are able to smile or frown. It's amazing how expressive you're able to make such seemingly limited puppets just using body language

Obviously this is an adorable bit but I'm so struck by how different this is from so many little kid shows today like.......the muted colors. no background noise. no sound effects. you can literally hear Jim Henson breathing between his lines. Ernie is talking very slowly, meandering, letting the kids digest the info. it's a full minute before you get the payoff of it all. man
