My favorite psychological details from Silent Hill 2
Written by: Au, also know as @ausantana on tumblr
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"In my restless dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill. You promised me you'd take me there again someday. But you never did. Well, I'm alone there now... In our 'special place'... Waiting for you... Waiting for you to come to see me."
Tumblr media
Click below to continue reading! ↓ TW: Spoilers!!
1- James never realized that all those bodies were his, forever trapped in Silent Hill as guilt and redemption for the murder of his ailing wife.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2- It is said that James was admitted for a time in a mental hospital due to his schizophtenia, where the doctor who treated his case sx abused him multiple times, the plages where the holes were located in the Brookhaven hospital where he searches to get objects are those places where James was abused, in addition two of the puzzles also give us to understand it.
+ In addition to being one of Angela's fears, "Abstract Daddy" is also part of James' traumas (as I mentioned earlier about his doctor).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4- The mannequins hide from James because to them, James is the real monster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5- In this scene is when we truly realize that Pyramid Head is nothing more than James' desire to be punished for what he did, we see how James carries the significant sword, which in turn is an analogy about the weight that came with being with Mary while her illness worsened more and more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6- One of the deepest characters in this game is Angela; a girl who was sx abused by her father and brother. I feel like her story encompasses much more than what we see in the game (both the original and the remake). Her interactions with James give us a glimpse into what her past was like.
"No. Don't pity me. I'm not worth it… Or maybe… you think you can save me. Will you love me…? Take care of me…? Heal all my pain…? …Hmph…That's what I thought."  - Angela Orosco
7- We can see the stress levels the characters are under through their physical appearance (ex: James' face deteriorates as time goes on in the game) or through tiny details like their nails.
8- Laura's innocence prevents her from seeing all the monsters in Silent Hill, and that's why she doesn't realize what's happening around her.
9- There was no one stalking James as the game progressed, all those notes were left by himself (as I mentioned earlier about the bodies).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
10- The nurses were James's repressed sx desire, and that is why on some occasions when James suddenly bursts into hospital rooms, the nurses scream, because they see him as a sx deviant.

Jean-Luc Godard cinematography
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pierrot le Fou (1965) & La Chinoise (1967)
Tumblr media
Click below to continue reading! ↓
In Jean-Luc Godard’s cinema, the image is not merely a narrative device but a space where philosophy, politics, and poetry intersect. This vision is fully realized in Pierrot le Fou and La Chinoise, two films that, while distinct in tone and context, share a radically expressive approach to cinematography, mise-en-scène, and especially the use of color as both emotional and ideological language.
In Pierrot le Fou, Raoul Coutard’s cinematography offers a lyrical, fragmented aesthetic marked by painterly compositions that subvert realist conventions. The frames are constructed like living tableaux, dominated by primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) that function as signs rather than mere decoration. Red, for example, recurs throughout the film as an ambivalent symbol: it appears on Marianne’s lips, on walls, and in blood, evoking both romantic passion and latent violence. Blue, by contrast, reflects Ferdinand’s melancholy, his desire to escape and his simultaneous entrapment within language.
The staging in Pierrot le Fou is intentionally anti-naturalistic. Characters move and speak with self-awareness, often breaking the illusion of cinematic continuity. Godard does not hide the artifice of cinema instead, he foregrounds it. Objects are placed within the frame not for dramatic function but for visual and symbolic impact. The camera moves not to preserve spatial logic but to follow ideas and moods.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
La Chinoise, meanwhile, brings this aesthetic into an even more conceptual realm. Set almost entirely within an apartment, the film transforms that enclosed space into a political and aesthetic installation. Once again, primary colors dominate the visual field, but here they are tied directly to ideological discourse. Red, omnipresent, is not just a visual motif but a constant reference to revolution, Maoism, and symbolic violence. The characters—young students caught between Marxist theory and bourgeois triviality—exist within a chromatic universe that underscores the artificiality of their ideals and their detachment from real political action.
The cinematography in La Chinoise is frontal, geometric, almost theatrical. Godard fragments space into visual blocks, with each shot functioning like a manifesto. The editing is abrupt, refusing classical rhythm, highlighting the discursive nature of the film. Here, color serves not harmony or beauty but dissonance: violent contrasts and jarring combinations force the viewer to look critically, resisting aesthetic comfort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In both films, color theory departs from cinematic naturalism in favor of expressionist and conceptual uses. Color is not used to represent the world, but to question it. In this way, Godard constructs a visual poetics where the image becomes thought, mise-en-scène becomes language, and cinema itself becomes a political act.

Quiz: what flower used in victorian flower language are you?

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
red camellia - "you are a flame in my heart"
Tumblr media
"Wow, you are a force to be reckoned with! When you’re motivated, there’s absolutely nothing that can stop you. Sometimes, you can get a little wrapped up in yourself, but overall you are so passionate about other people. If you’re interested in something, you’ll take it to extremes and learn everything you possibly can about it. You can talk for ages and there’s constantly a million thoughts, ideas, and opinions running through your head. You tend to see the world in black and white; it wouldn’t hurt to balance your viewpoints out a bit, but also, never lose your strong sense of morality. You’ve definitely been constantly told that you’re “too much”– don’t listen to them. You’ll find your people who love all the parts of you, and especially your zest for life. You might have trouble balancing out your emotions, and you definitely feel everything at an intensity that would stagger others. You also probably have a great distrust of authority."

𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: Anora (2024)
Written by: Au, also know as @ausantana on tumblr

"Your paradise was nothing more than a cruel game—a prison of illusions that I refuse to call home."

Anora (2024) is a film that stands out for its bold and deeply reflective screenplay, capable of captivating the audience from its very first scenes. The story centers on Ani, a woman seduced by the promises of an idealized world presented by Vanya, who ventures into a reality that, at first glance, seems to offer all the answers and happiness she has ever desired. However, the climax delivers a devastating blow of reality when Ani discovers that everything she believed in was merely a cruel game for Vanya, adding a note of tragedy and disillusionment to the plot.
This unexpected twist is the key that propels the development of Ani’s character, forcing her to confront a harsh truth about herself and those around her. The film not only provides an emotionally intense narrative, but it also invites viewers to question the nature of human relationships and the manipulation that can hide behind façades of perfection. Ani’s evolution becomes a tangible representation of the pain of disillusionment and the quest for authenticity in a world rife with deception.
Within this context, the character of Igor stands out as a counterpoint of humanity and empathy amid the prevailing coldness and selfishness. Unlike other characters who view Ani merely as an object or a means to their own ends, Igor treats her with the respect and dignity she deserves. His presence is fundamental, as it enables Ani to rediscover her self-worth and begin rebuilding her identity far from the manipulations and falsehoods that had once enveloped her.
Another crucial aspect explored in the film is the stark contrast in social classes and the accompanying stigmas that affect the protagonist. Ani finds herself entangled in a web of humiliation and threats imposed by a multimillionaire family, which wields its power and fortune to dominate and control her, stripping away any possibility of independence. This social critique is presented in a subtle yet powerful manner, highlighting how economic barriers and prejudices can destroy self-esteem and severely limit the personal development of those in vulnerable positions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cinematography of Anora (2024) plays a crucial role in shaping the narrative, using color contrast and staging to emphasize the duality between illusion and reality. The spaces tied to Vanya and his world of privilege are bathed in vibrant, saturated, and warm tones, reflecting the false sense of glamour and security he promises Ani. In contrast, when the protagonist faces the consequences of that deception, the color palette shifts to colder, more muted shades, accentuating her isolation and the harshness of her emotional awakening. The staging further reinforces this dynamic: the lavish interiors, filled with excessive ornamentation and opulence, starkly contrast with the simpler, stripped-down spaces where Ani experiences moments of genuine humanity, especially in her interactions with Igor. These visual elements not only enhance the storytelling but also underscore the film’s social critique, visually exposing how appearances mask the toxicity of a system built on power and inequality.
Overall, 'Anora (2024)' is not only celebrated for its excellent screenplay and narration, but also for its ability to delve into universal themes such as disillusionment, manipulation, and the struggle for dignity in an unrelenting environment. The film encourages the viewer to reflect on the true nature of human relationships and the high price paid when one blindly trusts in illusions built on falsehoods. With its complex plot and memorable characters, Anora establishes itself as a cinematic work that both challenges and moves its audience, leaving a lasting impression.
