Hi there everyone, just a quick post to thank all the people who have followed me over the past few days.
As my page suggests my name is Niamh Choesang and I am an Australian Author.
Currently I am writing my autobiography which is nearly finished.
It is about my journey as I try to prove my potential to a world that doesn't always see it.
One thing that you have probably noticed about me is that I am in a wheelchair (I deliberately avoid saying that I am "confined" to a wheelchair as the reality is I am not, at the end of each day I get out of it, lay down on my bed and stretch out my legs and back feeling thankful that I got to experience another day of life) *waits for the sounds of retching* sorry if that sounds corny but it is the truth.
My disability is Cerebral Palsy which is a purely physical disability that effectively affects my motor function, but other than that I am pretty much just the average human being, I eat, get drunk and have sex (not necessarily in that particular order!)
I don't believe that people who have disabilities should be treated as they are special just because they have a disability.
I for one don't think that I am special because I have a disability, I would rather be known as special regardless of if I have a disability or not.
Anyway my friends, I hope you enjoy reading my reflections and ridiculously random observations of a standing up world

It's time for change,
It's time for us to grow, right now it is more important than any of us really know!
To make the world great again we must free ourselves from hate, before it is too late.
So be prepared to spread positivity, and not spread fear. So together we can protect everything that we hold so dear

Growing up as a child with the physical disability Cerebral Palsy, I learned from an early age that my inner strength was my best friend, and it had to be. I somehow knew that if I was going to succeed in life and achieve my life goals, my inner strength was going to be my best tool. As we all know life has many ups and downs and believe me when I say that I have had my fair share of ups and downs. However I believe that we need to have the downs so that we can truly appreciate the ups that we have. So I want to thank that school bully who put me down every day with their sharp words designed to cut me down to my very soul. I also want to thank that ex partner who dumped me because they saw my disability as my biggest "flaw." Thank you for making me realize my own inner strength. Thank you for giving me the drive to prove you wrong. I will be forever grateful, and I will be forever strong because of you, but also in spite of you. Lession learnt: never let someone else’s opinions of you, or the dreams that you choose to have, detour you. The only opinion of you that is important is yours and yours alone. It’s YOUR life, live it by YOUR own terms and conditions. Niamh Choesang

OUR COMMON HUMANITY.
We as a society have the power to change but we don't always use it. We have an opportunity to better understand each other but we often don't take it. To be able to progress and make the world into a more liveable and compassionate place again we must start to do both of these things. Otherwise we might as well try to run a marathon with one of our feet nailed to the ground. Having strength takes courage and often having courage takes strength. We must have the strength to change and have the courage to grow as a global society, always respecting our common humanity.

When I was young I used to play at a playground where other kids were playing and they would want to play with me.
However when they tried to come over to me their parents would yank them by their arm and say no leave her alone as though they thought that their child was going to catch my disability like it was some incurable disease.
I tried not to let it upset me however at such a young age how could I not have been upset.
To me I was just like any other child so why didn't the parents want their children to play with me
I tried smiling at them  but they just told them to look way.
I felt somewhat sorry for the poor buggers because there there they were trying to do the right thing and they were being treated as though they were doing something wrong.
I sometimes felt like walking up to the parents (pardon the irony!) and saying that I don't bite, well too hard anyway.
It is a bit like when I go out independently, if I had a dollar for every time I have been stopped by someone out in the community to have them ask whether I have lost my support worker or disability group. I wouldn't have to write! (I mean I would ofcourse, because I love it so much!)
In these peoples minds, the possibility that I would be able to go out independently seems difficult to grasp.
I think that would be why I enjoy doing it so much, as I like breaking the stereotypes that are often associated with someone who has a disability.
I think that one of the the biggest stereotypes of a person with a physical disability is that that they are all nice and sweet.
This simply isn't true, for the most part we are nice, however sometimes we have bad days, just like everyone else .
We too fight with our husband, wives, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and children. After all that is what makes us human beings.
Our perception - friend or foe?
Thank you  for reading,
Niamh Choesang

Lately I have been thinking about what makes us into the person that we are. Is it our past, or is it how we view our future? Where do our dreams and our beliefs come into it?
It has often been said that is our past which defines us, however if someone has had a terrible past, does that necessarily mean that their future will follow suit?
The simple answer to that question is in the future actions and decisions of this person.
As someone who has a dark past is still capable of having a bright future.
In my view it is here that our dreams and our beliefs come into play.
With dreams we have hope, and with beliefs we have soul. These are things we need in our lives in order for us to grow and not allow our past to fully define us.
It is how we choose to fight for them that will truly define the person that we are and will be.
Thank you for reading,
