No Spice VS. "Clean"

I think as authors it is very important we're careful with our language. Some people label their no spice fiction as clean fiction. That leaves the implication that books that are spicy are "dirty".

I don't think that it should need to be explained, that labelling works of fiction that contain sex on the page, is somehow dirty. Sex is not dirty. Sex is not bad. Sex is not wrong. Sexual media and content is not wrong or dirty.

It screams of purity culture and purity culture causes so many issues. So much harm. It's painful to see people claim some sort of superiority over others because they read "clean" fiction.

If you don't like it, that's fine. That's totally acceptable. But we need to be careful about the reason we use the word dirty and why sexual content is considered inherently dirty.

It's not.

When I write, I write for teens. So there might be kissing and that's it. If I ever write for adults, then the adult content will match an adult audience. That doesn't mean one is better than the other. They're just different.
