ID: A warm-hued photograph of an old-fashioned kitchen with copper pots hung on the wall, a counter with linen curtains beneath them, and a skinny wooden table with a partly-eaten breakfast spread. Sunlight kisses the countertop and mosaic backsplash.

sometimes I feel like a complete alien still wearing a mask in 2024 but other times I feel like such a badass. I passed the peer pressure test. if you're immunocompromised/chronically ill/disabled and you're still wearing a mask you are cool as fuck and I love you.

i have a possible resource to share for my chronically ill, disabled folk, especially those who may be living with dysautonomia! 'tis the season for conferences, many of which are difficult or impossible for us homebound or flare-prone, and i discovered a newer dysautonomia organization called Awareness for POTSies is having a virtual conference on june 6-7th, running from 12:00-7:30 PM (EST) both days. i found out at least one of the speakers is also speaking at the Dysautonomia International Conference, so that's cool. most of the folks speaking are medical professionals passionate about dysautonomia and related conditions, and many of those have some of these conditions themselves.
registration at full price is $10 but if you're in a bind, they're offering a discount code to register for $5.
some of the sessions will be on things like POTS, Long Covid, ME/CFS, MCAS, EDS, as well as more useful stuff like pacing, occupational therapy, medical gaslighting and more. again it’s all virtual, and they're recording sessions so if you're flaring or in a different time zone you can watch them later up to 3 months afterwards. all the info is on their website, including the agenda, speakers, and registration! https://www.awarenessforpotsies.org/conference

when disabled people talk about fakeclaiming, i think most people on here think we’re talking about rude anons, or some stranger on the bus saying you don’t really need that cane. But we’re also talking about like. The social security administration. Doctors who are in charge of treating us; who deny care because they think we’re faking. Family members who withdraw material support because we aren’t improving when they think we should, and refuse to look for alternative caregivers. And this kills people. Disabled people die without benefits that would keep us housed and fed, without necessary medical treatments, without our care support systems. Fakeclaiming isn’t just rude. It’s deadly

say it louder
i’m gonna hold your hand with a glove on when i say this
when disabled/chronically ill people tell you they can’t do something, then that is not your cue to tell them that they can actually or that they’ll always find an excuse if they’re looking for one.
when a disabled/chronically ill person says they can’t do something, sometimes that doesn’t mean it’s outside the realm of possibility, sometimes it means if they (attempted to) do that, they will seriously hurt themselves.
when a disabled/chronically ill person says they can’t do something, sometimes it’s preventative care, and they refuse to do that thing to prevent a flare up from happening/their symptoms getting worse in the first place.
disabled/chronically ill people are not “looking for excuses”, they are giving you reasons why. something they don’t even have to do! so maybe just accept the reasons they give you.

I am no longer explaining my chronic illnesses. I'm only ominously referencing them like I'm a fantasy realm NPC dropping plot hooks:
I am besieged by the affliction
The ritual was successful, but it has drained me. I need time to recuperate.
I can't do that, because of The Curse
Dark forces are conspiring within me. I must conserve my strength to battle them.
Unseen foes assault me. I cannot strike back with blows, but I can lessen their influence by consuming certain alchemical rites.

kinda crazy drinking alcohol is so normalized that when i politely decline a drink i'll get a response of "why not?" as if i need a specific excuse to not drink. like unless you have a documented history of alcoholism or you're the designated driver it's kind of assumed social drinking is the norm and you're a weird outlier if you don't. i don't have a point here I'm just like. damn that's crazy.

ID: Six springy images inspired by the month of May. The first is a lovely illustration of a floral border wrapping cursive lettering of an Anne Bronte quote: "There is a silent eloquence in every wild bluebell" marking May above it. The second image is of tiny white snowbells. The third image is of an array of perennial flowers in a garden. The fourth is of a sage and pale pink book cover with raised details, flora, and a butterfly illustration on the top of the book. The fourth is of Brambly Hedge Spring Story by Jill Barklem sitting on top of a lacy linen tablecloth. The fourth is of a cozy cottage with wooden roofing, being taken over with flowers and other plants.

Scars? Not body horror. Limb differences? Not body horror. Facial differences? Not body horror. Feeding tubes, colostomy bags, etc? Not body horror. Movement disorders? Not body horror. Visibly disabled people just existing is not horror.

Trash Painting #15
2025
Waste acrylic and glitter glue on reclaimed wood panel
In my series 'Trash Paintings', I only use materials left over from other art projects—unused acrylic paint lingering on the palette, sheets of half-dried glue from the morning after a papier-mache session, snippets of cardboard picked off the floor. Creating with waste emboldens me to explore textures and compositions I'm scared will be ugly. What's the worst that could happen? It's already trash. This trash painting uses leftover paint from a swatch test and glitter glue that arrived half-dried because the seal was broken.

ID: Two photographs of a wintry scenery just as a magenta sunset is shrinking down into the night. Wide, soft hills sanded with snow meets scattered evergreens, standing dimly against the violet-magenta sky and a thin waxing crescent moon stamped in distance.

ID: Digital illustration by @momoro66 of window-like image including two white reindeer and a bunny watching the sunset in a hilly, lavender-hued setting. Whimsical, multicolored stars sprinkle thee sky above, progressively dimming into deep violet, with two barren trees on either side leaning towards each other to complete the wintry illustration.

ID: Vibrant and joyous oil painting by Los Angeles-based artist Ellen He (@littleyellowleaves) of a giraffe-legged, snow-colored dog watching out to the side, stood by trees, a Babybel cheese-like moon, and a mustard yellow house. Below it is a black cat with its tongue sticking out; the bottom half of this piece changed tone from warm to cool, with greens and teals, and hits a warm earth below. The cat is facing an abundance of flowers, let's say tulips, poking and drooping out from the dirt below, and rising from a shadowed ground.

As of Jan 21st, 2025, a full copy of the constitution is no longer available on whitehouse.gov. I feel like this is a good time to remind everyone that the biggest threat to authoritarianism and facism is a well educated and informed population. Inform yourself and fight.
a copy of the document can still be found on the archives website. I think now is probably a good time to read it if you haven't and download it, incase it is erased from here as well.
