Tumblr media
this is erik
Tumblr media
this is also erik
Tumblr media
this is ALSO erik.
and there's like. tons more eriks to go. but who the hell is erik?? IM GLAD YOU ASKED🗣️
Tumblr media
Le fantĂ´me de l'opĂŠra (1909)
so for starters, this is where it all began. Originally, erik was nothing more than a character in a novel, that started out horribly. (Sales were AWFUL when it was first published) but then it slowly grew in popularity and finally got a ton of recognition.
the original rendition of erik was described as being skeleton like, with no nose and yellow skin. (overall he looks horrible, like entirely) and he was about 50ish (ok boomer). He meets christine, tutors her, then kinda kidnaps her for a week?? eventually he lets her go for awhile because she promised him she's come back.
i can't really say much about leroux erik (or lerik for short) cuz idk the novel so feel free to add ig

The phantom of the opera silent movie (1925)
This was the first movie adaptation of the novel, and by far the MOST accurate looking erik to date (in reference to the book). Starring Lon Chaney, Mary Philbins, and Norman Kerry, this silent movie grew in popularity within the fandom but otherwise forgotten (like most silent movies) Not much changes to the book becausr it strived to be accurate, and again i can't say much bcs idk ts one💔

Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of The Opera (1986-Present)
BUCKLE UP cuz i know a lot abt this one😈😈
Andrew Lloyd Webber adapted the infamous novel into a musical, but instead of keeping the mystery theme, he decided to make it a romance story. This is by far his most famous musical of all time, and if someone mentioned phantom of the opera, chances are they're talking about THIS rendition.
This original trio in West End theatre was Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, and Steve Barton, dating back to 1986ish. Simply put, there's a young girl named Christine, and Erik decides to tutor her in singing. She becomes successful, and reunites with her childhood sweetheart Raoul. Little did she know, erik REALLY liked her and doesn't take her relationship with raoul kindly. so he does various things to keep her his, like ordering the opera managers to give her a lead role, killing stagehands, and even interrupting a party with his goofy ahh suit😭🙏
They all try to put a stop to him by killing him while watching a play, but what they didn't know is that erik replaced the main lead of the play JUST so that he could be with Christine. When he gets revealed he kidnaps her and forces her to marry him, but then THE POWER OF LOVE PREVAILS😇😇 Christine kisses him, he lets her go, and curtain closes.
Phantom of the Opera holds the record for the LONGEST running show on Broadway (even if it closed back on 2023) with an impressive 13.981 shows there alone. There has been 16 Phantom actors and 36 Christine actresses on Broadway's run, and ALW's version alone has played in 36 countries internationally!! wowzers!!
here's a list of the most famous alw phantoms (see alt text for their names!!)

I used to think that Christine was being so over the top when the Phantom sings Music of the Night. Like is he really that good that he’ll practically bring you to orgasm?? But listening to Ramin Karimloo’s rendition…. yes. He really is that good.
Totally valid reaction to hearing Ramin Karimloo sing

Somehow I stumbled upon this version on YouTube and it sent me down the POTO rabbit hole/reignited my Phantom fixation…again!
Why Ramin is the Phantom ever, reasons why:

Yay! Now we’ll have color and b&w gifs and caps!
Now, Werewolf by Night is reemerging from the shadows, and this time, it’s getting a stunning makeover. On October 20, 2023, Disney+ will release a fully colored version of the special, aptly titled Werewolf by Night in Color. This transformation won’t be happening on a full moon (it’s a waxing crescent that night), but it still promises to be a visual feast, breathing new life into the already spine-chilling narrative.

"Marvel has done irreversable damage to cinema and art" like....what the fuck are you even talking about?????😑
Just because the MCU popularized certain things like post credit scenes, an interconnected cinematic universe and other shit like that, it's suddenly their fault other studios are following the same example in a misguided attempt to try and copy the success of the MCU without actually realizing what makes it successful in the first place???? How can you even blame Marvel for that?
Yall will literally come up with anything to justify your hatred🙄🙄
