As I came back it felt like

I was going to back to the past

when everything was okay

the world got too loud so we took the blankets off of your bed and went outside and laid on the cold grass and shivered and stared at the stars and at first we talked about school and then we talked about the president and before either one of us knew what was happening you said your father never quite figured out how to hug you, that the mornings never smelled like pancakes, that summer meant finding new places to hide and now you’re scared of sunlight and i told you how when i was thirteen i got pushed down a flight of stairs and how after that i was obsessed with being weightless and how i’ve come a long way since but i still haven’t managed to shake the numbers out of my head and maybe falling in love is supposed to happen on a bridge during sunset but during those small hours of the morning i finally felt alive i mean nobody in this whole world knows the stuff about me that you do but when you slipped your hand into mine the next day i knew the same was true of you.
