Friendship Bracelets

Daryl Dixon X GN!Reader (Platonic)

Summary: You and Daryl bond over an old hobby.

Warnings: None

A/N: My first fanfic on my new account AND my first walking dead fic? Look at me go!

“What are you doin’?” Daryl’s gruff voice asked from behind you.

You continued to weave the three pieces of yarn together, fingers twisting and turning as you braided. “Making a bracelet.” You replied.

Daryl was silent as he pulled out the chair next to you, dropping his signature crossbow on the table before throwing his feet up next to it. He continued to watch as you intricately maneuvered the colored strings into a thick band. “Why?” He finally asked.

You shrugged. “I don’t know. Just… found some yarn and thought, why not? Ain’t got nothing better to do.”

He hummed in agreement. “You’re pretty good at that.” He observed.

“Learned from my sister. She’d spend hours making these stupid things.” Using one hand to hold onto the colorful strings you were working with, you held the other out to Daryl.

He squinted, leaning in as he inspected the two bands on your arm. The first, from what Daryl could tell through the dirt and grime, was a simple purple and pink spiral design. There were little silver beads woven into the band and a small rusted star charm dangling from the faded yarn. The second bracelet was a different design from the last. It was probably about an inch thick and a faded yellow color. There were no beads or charms but Daryl could just make out your name woven in thick blocky white letters.

“Surprised they stayed on with everything they’ve gone through.” He commented, leaning back in his seat. “They’re nice though. You can do that?”

You let out a snort as you pulled your hand back, turning back to your project and beginning to weave again. “Absolutely not. I can do the simple little braid but I never got any further than that.” You grinned. “My sister was a creative genius though. Could’ve made a bracelet even you’d wear.”

The two of you settled back into comfortable silence, and it wasn’t long before you were tying off the end of the bracelet and picking it up from the table to examine.

“Watchu gonna do with it?”

You shrugged. “I don’t know. Haven’t thought that far ahead.”

A second later and an arm popped into your line of sight.

You furrowed your brows, lifting your head to look at Daryl who gave you a shrug of his own. “Unless you’re planning to give it to someone else.”

You smiled at him before tying the bracelet around his wrist, tight enough he wouldn’t lose it but loose enough to not cut off any circulation.

Daryl shook his wrist a few times, testing the integrity of his newfound accessory before he hummed. “Your sister would be proud of you, making a bracelet even the great Daryl Dixon would wear.” He teased, throwing your earlier words back at you.

You nudged his shoulder with your own. “Seems I got some of her skills after all.” You turned back towards the table you had been working at, grabbing the ball of multicolored yarn and beginning to roll it back up. “Remember though, it’s a friendship bracelet. Can’t ever take it off unless we ain’t friends anymore.”

“Well that ain’t ever gonna happen, sweetheart. So I guess it’s staying on.” He stood, ruffling your hair as you put the now tightly wound yarn ball into your backpack.

The sounds of sobbing echoed throughout the empty room as Daryl pressed his wrist against his face, the faded and now grime covered bracelet pressing against his lips as he cried. In his other hand, he held two more bracelets, caked in blood and dirt.

A pink and purple spiral with silver beads and a rusted star charm, and a thick yellow band with your name woven in white blocky letters.

Jesus: “What’s going on between these two?”

Rick: *shaking his head* “No one knows, not even Y/N and Daryl”

Okay so we tried our best to pick songs we associate with or feel fitting with each Ericson kid. We put the song title, artist, and a few lyrics that felt on point.

First, though we figured we do one that seemed right for the Ericson kids as a whole and that's How Far We've Come by Matchbox Twenty. "I'm waking up at the start of the end of the world. Finally finished reading the Apollo books, now I'm curious ;)

Percy Jackson AU, which parents would the Ericson kids have? Who would be their godly parent (doesn't matter which mythology, greek, norse, egyptian, shinto gods, whatever) and who would be their earthly parent? How would their powers manifest? Which powers of their parents would they even have? Some special talent they have?

Now, this is a fun ask, a Percy Jackson au would be really cool!

Godly Parent-> Powers and Talents

Clementine: Daughter of Sekhmet. Has an earthly dad. She is great battle prowess, has ability over fire, and is great at archery. She also has minor abilities of healing sicknesses and wounds. Also minor combat magic so yeah don't mess with her.

Louis: Son of Aphrodite, his dad is human and sucks just like in canon. Louis has the ability to be incredibly persuasive and he uses it mainly to get out of work.

Violet: Daughter of Athena. Her dad was unfaithful. She has high intelligence, natural battle strategy skills, and a fear of spiders. But she joins the huntresses of Artemis and takes the oath to swear off men which is fine with her because she doesn't want any.

Marlon: Son of Thor. His mom is his earthly parent. He has incredible strength. majestic hair and can control thunder. Just don't catch Marlon when he's in a panic because he might unintentionally zap you with a thunderbolt.

Brody: Daughter of Iris. Has an earthly dad. She can use the light off rainbows to burn enemies. She has the ability to control some animals and create illusions as well as send messages through rainbows.

Mitch: Son of Ares. His mom is his earthly parent who ended up raising him alone for a while. He has battle strategy skills and fighting skills. He also has the ability of necromancy but it has lots of conditions and is limited. He is also pretty grouchy at times.

Ruby: Daughter of Freya, goddess of love and beauty and war. Has an earthly dad who taught her hunting skills. She has wits and is unstoppable in battle. She also has an ability to have cats of all kinds drawn toward her.

Aasim: Son of Saraswati. He has an earthly dad. He excels in knowledge, wisdom, speech, and learning. He is also very articulate with his words and persausive.

Sophie: Daughter of Dionysus. Has an earthly mom. She has control over some plants and can turn people into dolphins, can conjure up any drink. Always appears at parties too.

Minnie: Daughter of Dionysus. Has an earthly mom. She has control over plants, can conjure out drinks, and induce or heals madness. Also always appears at parties.

Tenn: Son of Balder, god of peace, forgiveness, and spring. Has an earthly mom. He is invulnerable to almost all attacks unless it is laced with mistletoe. Also has control over light and emotions surrounding love.

Omar: Son of Ala, an African goddess of morality, creativity, and earth. Has an earthly dad. He has connections to the earth but also the underworld. He also keeps an extremely level head and thinks of lots of outcomes for actions.

Willy: Son of Hephaestus. His earthly parent is his mom. He has enhanced forging abilities, has control over fire, and can make inescapable traps. He uses those for pranks.

AJ: Son of Ares. He has an earthly mom. He's a half-brother of Mitch and has all of the abilities he has as well.

James: Son of Nyx, goddess of the night. His earthly dad raised him on his own. He has night vision, shadow travel, and can wield solid bolts of darkness.

Marlon: You’re On Your Own, Kid. It made him feel like he wasn’t actually alone in his struggles. Everyone sometimes felt the way he felt. It only gave him further courage to continue to lead and protect his friends.

Louis: Bejeweled. He loved to make the little kids laugh by kicking up his leg whenever the ‘nice’ sounds in the backing vocals. AJ, Tenn, and Willy always laughed.

Violet: Better Than Revenge. Whenever she was able to get a decent radio connection, she’d pop in the CD and sing along, bouncing around the room to get pumped up.

Mitch: I Did Something Bad. Whenever he was humming it to himself, he wore a cocky smirk. How funny that such a song gave him a ‘don’t fuck with me’ attitude, but it did.

Willy: no body, no crime. Something about the country twang reminded him of his grandparents. They loved country music and always played it in the background whenever Willy came by for dinner.

Aasim: Wildest Dreams. When he was alone, he loved to sing along to the bridge. He was worried if the other kids overheard him, they would make fun of him. The bridge just hit him for reasons he couldn’t explain.

Ruby: Never Grow Up. It reminded her of the lullabies she would sing to her siblings before she was sent away. She was often in charge of taking care of them given how often her parents were absent.

Tenn: invisible string. It always reminded him of sitting at home, listening to his father pluck away at his guitar, and hearing his sisters hum in response. It calmed him after long days. It made him feel warm and cozy.

Omar: Don’t Blame Me. The signing always made him feel so soulful. It reminded him of the way his parents would sing around the house when they were in a good mood. That was what he missed the most when he was sent to the school.

Brody: Clean. It was her comfort song. On days when she was feeling especially down, she would lie down in the grass, humming and singing to herself. It was her reminder that everything would be okay.
