My summary of The Murderbot Diaries so far, three books in:
Murderbot: I can’t believe I have to keep these humans from getting themselves killed. Everywhere I go, there are humans who need protecting and this cuts into really valuable media consumption time. This is so annoying.
Everything in the universe, including Murderbot’s own presumably unprecedented free will: You could just not protect the humans.
Murderbot: … No.
(And it’s great.)

“A writer is not a short order cook, please do not try to order off the menu” is another one for the “things to embroider” list
Also an excellent reminder why one should not send writers unsolicited requests/demands for story things.

a very gentle PSA that a writer is not a short-order cook, please do not try to order off the menu
#teviya stitches#tumblr posts to embroider#writing stuff#thanks for the ace rep red! happy to watch kendal develop organically as you and g-d intend

“Everything Is Bears” is now on my list of silly things to embroider if I can find a cute little bear image to go with
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

Oh cool, that’s Benny, my 248th cousin sixteen times removed. We don’t see him often, but he’s fun to hang out with. No one can figure out how he bleached his plumage that much without frying all his feathers off. He has a different story about it every time someone asks.

Never Before Seen’ Yellow Penguin Belgian photographer Yves Adams on a two month photo exhibition in the South Atlantic captured on camera the world’s first yellow penguin. It was captured in December 2019 when the group made a stop on an island in South Georgia to photograph a colony of over 120,000 king penguins.

Hi yes I would like a Murderbot graphic novel by this artist specifically please thank you

That one scene from Network Effect by Martha Wells.
Ngl, drawing that last panel was kind of satisfying. I wish I had skills to draw what happens right after but alas.

I came up with this three-way table to help me (and now you, if you want) to rate things out of 5 stars. I was thinking of books and films when I made it, but you can probably use it for other stuff.
The idea is that you rate the thing on how much stuff you loved and how much stuff you hated, and those things weight against each other. There's only one way to get 5 stars or 1 star, so those should end up as the rarest ratings, wtih 3 stars being the most common.
'Spicy' means that the thing inspires emotion, whether positive or negative, while 'bland' means it doesn't affect you much either way.
An example of a 3-star (spicy) - for me personally - would be the Twilight series, because there's plenty of garbage in there but also some things that are like crack to me. I can't think of an example of a 3 star (bland) because by nature they don't stick in the mind.
(This also assumes giving 0 stars isn't allowed. That'd throw it out of whack...)

#it honestly depends#the cost of entry is pretty low#you can get a bamboo hoop thread needles a pair of scissors and a fat quarter of fabric for about $25-$30#where it gets expensive is when you get into it enough to get frustrated with your crappy starter tools#and start looking to upgrade to higher quality and longer lasting items#i had to spend $200 on a set of left-handed scissors because i couldn’t find good-quality ones at my local craft stores#i just bought two sets of really high quality wood hoops to replace my ancient shitty plastic ones#i’m dreaming of the day when i can upgrade my floor and lap frames#one of the lap frames i have my eye on is over $300#teviya in real life#teviya stitches#hand embroidery#at least thread is still cheap and i’m well stocked on fabric

Dragon of the Yuyan
Part 47, Objective
Read on AO3
Sokka is fresh out of plans, since their one single hope for stopping the Fire Nation and winning the War has disappeared without a trace.
Thankfully Iroh's there to pick up the slack.
