This book is about more than a woman and her daughter struggling to survive, but about the lives of those that are seemingly doing better than her with their wealth, marriages, pets, and collections and yet have less than her at the end of the day. The discarded artifacts left for cleaning and gutting becomes personified by their owners, new friends that distract Stephanie from her own troubles. My favorite part of this book is how she describes the lives of others as if she's a ghost; her invisibility and unawareness from others being her superpower as she glides from home to home. In doing this, Stephanie finds empowerment and the will to be seen as an equal, something I think she more than deserves. There's a lot more to unpack with this one, but I think I'll leave it open for more interpretation 😉 check out my Instagram for more:

When you're staring at your bookshelf like it's a dating app, trying to find a book that’s the one... but they all seem a little too familiar.

Seeking a safe place to lick her wounds from a personal crisis, Darcy Clipper returns home to the tiny town of Murbridge, Massachusetts. With an unwelcoming suprise waiting for her, Darcy begins her hilarious juggling journey of harboring complicated grudges and finding her way back to herself. This is my first Tara Conklin book, and it definitely won't be my last!
Impressions that stuck with me:
❄️ I enjoyed the witty and colorful personalities that shined through in this storytelling of growth and healing. I couldn't help but picture the tiny town drama to be set in the Gilmore Girls universe.
❄️ I found it intriguing that the author chose to omit quotation marks and space in the dialogue. While it was a unique stylistic choice, I did find myself occasionally confused about who was speaking rather than thinking something. Is this a writing trend we’ll be seeing more of?
❄️ The characters' progressive views were a refreshing contrast to their quaint, historically rich small town. It’s rare to see such forward-thinking personalities in an old-fashioned setting when reading a book and to me it paints a wonderful picture of how much we have grown and changed within our communities.
❄️ I absolutely laughed my butt off at the community board messages. It was why I initially purchased this book and it is what kept me reading! How relatable to see the good bad and ugly side of online message board. Thousands of cans of corn for sale, missed connections, lost dogs. I loved every bit of it.

FIVE STAR READ 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Nora Ephron seamlessly manages to make infidelity, heartbreak, and betrayal feel like a dark comedy at a family reunion. The book is filled with razor-sharp wit and hilarious observations about relationships, food (because who doesn't want to eat their feelings?), and the trials of juggling the desire to fit into a dream state and the need to see the situation for what it really is.
Ephron's protagonist, Rachel, is a food writer who mixes her snarky humor and expertise in the kitchen to hash out revelations on love and marriage. This reading experience was like being served a slice of key lime pie, but instead of a dollop of whipped cream, it’s a whole existential crisis. At the heart of it all, Ephron’s commentary on love is as comforting and as jarring as the time you found out your favorite cereal was discontinued. Some things end in order for better things to begin, and you know what? We survive. There's always a way! Growing pains always lead to growth.
In conclusion, Heartburn is a tragicomic feast for the soul—just be prepared to feel like you've been emotionally full for days after finishing it. Would recommend, but maybe with a side of Pepto-Bismol (;
