February Fanfic Reading Recap

I have successfully continued my goal of tracking each fic I've read this year and I've hit my first goal! I also learned how to use the charts a little bit more in slides so they look more neat this time around!

I read a total of 85 fics this month, over double the amount I read in January! MHA took first place as I read a 54-part series over the last few days 😶. one shots still heavily prefered.

almost half of the fics I read did not have a Relationship pairing and of those that did HuskerDust took the lead. Canon Divergent blew the others out of the water this month being over double the amount of fics as second place, Canon Compliant.

The whole 54-part series got a 5/5 overall rating so that's why that's so high but I don't regret that decision. Also, spice hit all 6 ratings! once again high fulff, low angst.

And here's the part where I met my first goal! reading 1,000,000 words! I read two very long fics and that very long series this month and that definitely helped push me over the threshold. seeing as I was able to hit 1M by the end of February my year-long goal is to hit 7M words read. if I keep reading fics the way I have been ill hit that goal with no problem.

I have sat at my desk staring at my keyboard for the last twenty minutes as if it will change a thing I feel envious of others whose writing seems to be second only to breathing for them how every time they sit to write they fill pages with wonder that I can only dream of how long have I sat here erasing these lines over and over again? it’s not that I do not have the drive, the stories, the passion but when I sit to write it’s like everything is stuck behind this impenetrable dam I do not know who put it there or why the wall is so high but I constantly feel like I’m on the verge of flooding I’m one good rain away from overflowing to finally be able to put every thought I have into words but it never quite overflows it fills and fills and fills you swear you can almost hear a cracking noise in the cement dams were never built to hold this much yet it does I’ll write out whole stories in my head plot out characters and scenes and love and betray I’ll think of all the witty dialogue I could give my characters and the subtle foreshadowing I can leave but the second I’m at my desk it’s like every idea I’ve ever had is on the fritz I’ll try to outline my thoughts but the ideas get garbled and end up half-baked I sit at my desk wanting to scream because I’ve read all the tips for getting over writer’s block I’ve read every blog titled “15 tips to get over your writer’s block” I’ve done the words vomits, taking a walk break, outlines, and talking it out. can it even be considered writer’s block if you were never even able to start?

My January 2024 Fanfic Recap

This year I've decided to track every fanfiction I read and with that, I figured I may as well do monthly recaps of what I've read so here we go!

I read 31 total fics, 30 of which were in the Detroit: Become Human fandom! (1 in My Hero Academia). I leaned one-shot heavy, probably because for the end of 2023 I was in a big long-fic spout and needed to chill a bit.

My top pairing was Hank Anderson/Connor and i mostly read Canon Compliant Fics.

This Image sums up what each of the ratings on the next slide means to me. i wasn't able to use the original emojis in the pie charts so I used starts on all of them but they are labeled.

High spice and fluff, low angst

Half a million in my first month! i can't wait to see how my reading habit evolves over the year.

I love how we say "PROTECT THIS CHARACTER AT ALL COSTS" and then we go and hurt them like they have never been hurt before

I’ve decided to learn HTML and CSS for absolutely no reason (not being in school atm has me desperately yearning for knowledge and instead of learning stuff in my field I’ve only decided to be interested in something not at all similar)

My desperation to read more of a certain trope that does not have enough fanfictions for it might actually give me enough push to finish writing a fic

Using Discord to work on fanfictions has actually been the only thing to help with my writer's block and idk what that says about me.
