A big thing that I want to change about what I’ve done with LoG so far - everything I’ve drawn was accidentally super america-europe-centric. (Genji’s “normal” clothes, his family’s apartment, etc.) I’m going to make more of an effort to expand wardrobes, architecture, and art styles. The sandbenders in Avatar / Legend of Korra wear pretty much what other low-income earthbenders wear:
and I imagine the clothing style must have evolved a bit since Korra. I’m trying to create more of a Pakistan / Kashmir / Bangladesh / India / Afghanistan vibe. From all that I researched I haven’t found strong religious connotations with kurtas or perahans or pashtuns, but please correct me if I’m wrong about that!
So I remember really liking the X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past movies (mainly because of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender). The X-Men franchise has always been fascinating to me. The characters were interesting and colorful and lively, and the themes of oppression and discrimination kept the stories grounded in relatable themes. However i’m not particularly knowledgable about the comics (at the time I had only read God Loves, Man Kills) so I decided to try and delve into it. I started off by reading the original Stan Lee run which I then found out was notoriously bad. I did a little research, and the general consensus was that Giant-Size X-Men revitalized the franchise and was a good place to start. So I started reading it, the characters were vaguely interesting and the generally tone of the first issue was enjoyable. Then I got to the second issue which starts off with Havok having apparently destroyed one of the Great Pyramids. With me being Egyptian, that was somewhat irritating but not a deal breaker. However, within a couple of pages Cyclops was running around screaming and calling people camel jockeys. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I didn’t get much farther than that. I’m still super interested in the franchise though and I don’t want this to turn me away from the series. So I figured, I’d just take suggestions here. What X-Men comics would be best for me to get into? Preferably ones where there aren’t any slurs being thrown at me.
I just can’t believe marvel made TWO superhero teams with only one girl on them originally and then killed off the girls in the exact same way, each time for the development of a male character!! like, just say you hate women and leave!!!!
