February 12, 1831
I was born in Shrewsbury, England to my father, Robert Darwin, who was a medical doctor, and my mother, Susanna Darwin, who I do not remember much because she died when I was only eight years old. I was the second youngest child - in fact, I was the fifth out of six children.
As a young child, my family was wealthy and I was very privileged. I loved to explore nature and my admiration for exploration would only grow and I got older.

Today, I have begun my journey aboard the HMS (Her Majesty's Ship) Beagle. Captain Robert FitzRoy invited me for the sole purpose that he needed a companion along for the 5-year voyage, which through much contemplation, I accepted. I was allowed and encouraged to participate in my own scientific research, which I was more than happy to begin.
On this journey, I studied shells and different species of the various tortoises of the Galapagos Islands. I even brought finches home and did my own studies of the beaks of finches to determine which were stronger and would survive in the world of natural selection (which is the idea that better fitting creatures will survive and produce offspring, while the weaker creatures will not).

Today, I have experienced my first (of many) uncomfortable heart complications. I am only 28 years old and the doctors can not begin to have any idea what is wrong with me. I should be in my prime of my life, but I have been encouraged to slow down my studies and take some time off of work which pains me more than my heart does.
(To this day Darwin’s death still remains unclear, but it is believed to be caused by some sort of heart failure, yet the cause of the heart failure is unknown.)

Today, I married Emma Wedgewood... Who just so happens to also be my first cousin.
I know, in your time, marrying a family member is wrong... But hey, I strongly believe that love is love.  <3

I was once a religious man. I would pray and go to church with my family on Sundays. However, I have officially decided that since my daughter, Anne, passed away from Scarlet fever, I have declared to be agnostic. This means I believe it is not possible to know if there really is a God. What kind of God kills innocent children?

Today, my book entitled, “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races” was published. This book will be considered the biggest work of my life because it explains my theories of evolution and natural selection. Evolution is the concept that many living organisms in the past have changed, or evolved, into the organisms we see in the world today. Many people claim that humans are the best and last creation of evolution, which is false because of the fact that evolution is a constant change. Natural selection is the idea that the strongest organisms most fit to live will survive and reproduce while others will not.

Today, my book entitled “The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex” was published. This book explains my theories based on human evolution from primates and the process of sexual selection. Sexual selection is the manner in which animals and humans decide which of their species to mate with to produce the strongest offspring with the best characteristics and genes.

My life had been one big roller coaster ride (even though the first patent for roller coasters isn’t going to be invented or another 3 years) but it had come to and end today. My last words spoken were to my wife, Emma. I told her "I am not the least afraid of death. Remember what a good wife you have been to me. Tell all my children to remember how good they have been to me".
Even though Emma and I had completely different religious views (I was agnostic and she was a Christian), she never discouraged my studies, but she never encourage me either- she simply allowed me to do what I thought was the right thing to do - and I loved her for that.

Thousands of people attended my funeral today. Family, friends, scientists, and philosophers all came to pay their last respects. Though I had expected to be buried in St. Mary’s Churchyard at Downe, instead I lie in Westminster Abbey near to the inventor of photography, John Herschel and infamous mathematical scientist and genius, Isaac Newton.
