how to properly structure a query letter!*
Dear [Agent],Â
[An optional brief introduction, no longer than 2 - 3 sentences, perhaps where you elaborate on the #ownvoices of your manuscript, or pointing out certain things in your manuscript that the agent asks for. I reiterate that this paragraph is optional. Unless you have a very specific reason to be querying this agentâfor instance, if they tweeted an MSWL for a heist novel and youâre querying a heist novelâthere is no relevance, so donât include this paragraph.]
[The first paragraph of your summary introduces the world, the main character, and their Normal. For instance, Cynthia lives in the times of a pandemic and works to continue living in their new normal. Every day, Cynthia choose to get up and keep living and making the most of their situation while trying to find something to do to be useful.]Â
[The second paragraph of your summary introduces the plot. To continue with the above idea, Cynthia has been tasked with trying to find a cure to coronavirus, but all they have to work with in their home is duct tape, tangerines, Tylenol, and a never-give-up attitude.]Â
[The third paragraph introduces stakes, aka what will happen if Cynthia doesnât discover a cure with the resources they have at home. Luckily for them, however, a woman named Jane they had a one night stand with needs a place to crash after she was evicted. Cynthia agrees to let her stay as their roommate, especially because Jane brings with her the missing ingredient to the cure for coronavirus, a magic bean she stole from a giantâbut thereâs only one magic bean. If Cynthia and Jane canât find a way to make more beans, they might be sent to the realm of giants forever.]Â
[The closing paragraph goes like this: Complete at 89,000 words, THE MAGIC BEAN is an Adult contemporary fantasy with potential for a companion novel. I believe it will appeal to fans of Erin Morgenstern and Naomi Novik. Briefly explain who you are and share what youâre comfortable with about yourselfâI say Iâm 26, headed to grad school for archiving, and that the book is #ownvoices for genderqueer representation. Also mention if you have any connection to the publishing industry. I mention who I was previously represented by, why we amicably parted ways, and that Iâve mentored in many writing contests.]Â
[Final closure: Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you again!]Â
[Best,]
[My name]
[My phone number and, though optional, my twitter handle]Â
*iâve been in the publishing industry for nine years now, have mentored many authors who went on to be published by the Big 5, and worked in writing contests to help writers, not only with their manuscript, but with their pitch and query letter and comps etc. i know what iâm about đ

This was literally how I came up with the idea for Take Us Home đ€
fuck you, my child is completely fine!
your child romanticises the idea of running far away and completely changing their personality, looks & soul as a way of coping with having no control over their life & being generally dissatisfied with who they have become

Writeblr Glossary
A list of words commonly used in the Writeblr community and their meaning!
Iâve gotten a lot of questions about what some things mean, so I thought it was time to compile a list of meanings.
This list gets updated every so often. Please click here to see the most up-to-date version of this post!
Writeblr â A community of writers on tumblr; A blog that posts primarily about writing. See here for a more in-depth explanation. (Also written as Writblr on occasion)
WIPÂ â Stands for Work in Progress. Primarily, itâs a piece of fictional work that is still in the writing process and is unfinished. (Also see: WIP page)
OCÂ â Stands for Original Character. This is a character entirely of your own creation.
Tag list â A tag list is a list of users who will be tagged in every post that a Writeblr makes about a certain WIP. It is often included at the bottom of a post, and people are free to ask to be included, or removed from it.
WIP Page â A page or a post on a Writeblr that describes a WIP. Commonly includes a synopsis, setting, characters, etc. See here for what goes in a WIP page and how to make one.
Tag games â Tumblr games where people will do something (often answer questions, a snippet of their WIP, etc) and ask other users to participate by using the @ function in that post.
Ask games â A tumblr game where a user will request people to send them things with the ask function. Often times will include a list of questions they wish to be asked.
Writing Sprints â An activity done by writers, where they write as much as they possibly can for a set amount of time (often 10-15 minutes). Can be done with multiple people, and is a common activity for a group of writeblrs to partake in.
Fanfiction â Fiction written by a fan about an existing TV show, movie, book, etc. Often features the characters, the setting, etc. of that piece of media.
AUÂ â Stands for Alternate Universe. AUs typically feature the same cast of characters of a WIP or an existing piece of fiction with a major change or two. (For example, a Fantasy AU would involve placing the characters in a fantasy setting. There also may be an AU of what might happen if a certain character didnât die in their story).
Canon â Material or information that is accepted as an official part of a story. (i.e., the creator confirms it and includes it in their story).
Headcanons â Ideas and interpretations of a fictional work that is accepted by a fan, but isnât necessarily supported by canon.
Moodboard â A collection of images meant to evoke a certain feeling or emotion. Often used by Writeblrs for their WIPs and OCs.
Ships â The concept of a fictional couple. Can be either canonical or not. If you âshipâ someone with another character, you like the idea of them being involved with each other, often romantically.
OTPÂ â Stands for One True Pairing. This is often used to describe someoneâs all time favorite ship.
BrOTP â Someoneâs favorite platonic ship. A portmanteau of âbroâ and âOTPâ.
Beta Reader â A person who reads through a draft before publication to give suggestions and feedback to the author to improve it. Can be paid or unpaid, depends on the author.
Sensitivity Reader â A person who reads through a draft to check for issues of representation, cultural inaccuracy, insensitive language, etc. For example, if you are a white author who has black characters in your story, you should have a sensitivity reader who is black, so they can let you know if you are accidentally being offensive, or misrepresenting them in any way. Many writers will have multiple sensitivity readers to give them feedback, so they can make the proper changes to be more inclusive and culturally sensitive. Can be paid or unpaid, depends on the author.Â
TW â Stands for trigger warning. Often followed up with the trigger (i.e., tw: self-harm). This is to warn people that there is sensitive content in a post or a WIP, and that if they do not want to see it, they should not proceed any further. Used in tags and the top of the actual post for visibility, and often accompanied by a âRead moreâ cutoff.
OP â Stands for Original Poster. It refers to the person who originally made the post. If someone says âthanks opâ on a post, they are addressing the person who created the post in the first place, not the people who have reblogged or added things to it.
Planner â A person who plans out their story before they write it, often with an outline. (Also see: Pantser and Plantser)
Pantser â A person who does not plan out their story, or plans very little before they write it. Comes from the term âflies by the seat of their pantsâ. (Also see: Planner and Plantser)
Plantser â A person who does both planning and improvisation in their writing. A portmanteau of planner and pantser. (Also see: Planner and Pantser)
Have a word youâd like to see included? Let me know and Iâll add it!

Welcome to writeblr! I canât wait for your wip intro, it sounds really cool âșïž
Hello writeblr! Iâm May, Iâm 24 and use she/her pronouns. Iâm very stereotypically, tea-drinking English. I am an aspiring author, who is using the lockdowns to her advantage by putting words on paper (or at least typed on a laptop) for a change. Iâm creating this blog in order to be a part of a community and have a little accountability with my writing (I have a goal to have something, anything published by 2022.)Â
I love all things fantasy. Whether it be magical realism, all the way to epic series. However, my true loves are the occult and dark academia. I am also a massive reader. My âlibraryâ is taking over my room. Send me any book recs you can think of, I am always looking for something new.Â
I am currently working on a (surprise, surprise) witch/dark academia novel with a working title of Nocturne. I am going to be making a WIP intro post for this later on so I wonât spill all the details yet.
So, thatâs my short and sweet introduction! Feel free to send me any asks, my inbox is always open, and tag me in any games. I am hoping to be rather active on here, so I cannot wait to fall in love with your works, and OCs, as much as I have my own, and cheerleader you all on toward your goals <3

Intersex Terminology Masterpost
This post updates regularly, so please check the notes before reading or reblogging to find the most recent version. Click the links to read more (pride flags too) and feel free to add on! All terms are intersex exclusive unless otherwise stated.
General Terms
Intersex (Adj.) - A term to describe those who were born with a sex variation that led to having sex characteristics that arenât traditionally male or female. Abbreviation is IS. Noun form is Intersexness (the word I personally use is Intersexuality). Read more here.
Dyadic (Adj.) - A term meaning âof twoâ used by intersex people to describe those who are not IS. Noun form is Dyad(s).Â
Perisex (Adj.) - A term whose prefix means âaround,â ânear,â used and coined intersex people to describe those who are not IS.
Endosex (Adj) - A term whose prefix means âwithinâ used and coined by intersex people to describe those who are not IS.
Juxtasex (Adj) - A term whose prefix means âclose toâ used and coined by intersex people to describe those who are not IS.
Variation - A term used to refer to the cause of someoneâs intersexuality. It is to be used instead of condition/disorder/etc. There are 3 main types of IS variations - Chromosomal, Hormonal, and Gonadal. There are some variations listed on LGBTA Wikia, the main source for this masterpost.
DSD - An abbreviation meaning either âdifference of sexual developmentâ or âdisorder of sexual development.â The latter should not be used, and Variation is to be used over DSD. (Link contains list of Variations)
Intersexism / Inter(sex)phobia - The discrimination, prejudice, dislike, and hatred of and towards IS people.
Dyadism - [TW] The belief that being Dyadic is normal, correct, the default, etc., and that IS people are unnatural, wrong, diseased/deformed, insignificant, etc. Can also be called Perisexism, Endosexism, or Juxtasexism.
Transgender-Intersex - A term for an IS person whose gender identity does not match the one decided on by their doctors and/or parents at birth, and identifies as transgender and intersex at the same time. Not all intersex people who are identify as trans-intersex, however. More commonly said abbreviated as âtrans-intersex.â
Assignment Related [TW]
Sex Assignment - Different from gender assignment, sex assignment is the process by which a personâs âbiological sexâ is determined. Everyone is assigned a sex and gender at birth, and for intersex people, sex assignment can be complicated and traumatic (see; IGM and Forced/Coerced HRT).
AXAB - Assigned âXâ At Birth. For IS people who did not have a sex assigned to them at birth. A similar term is UAB.
AIABÂ - Assigned Intersex At Birth. For IS people whose intersexuality was recognized at birth. May be used in place of/alongside âAXAB.â
IAFAB / IAMABÂ - âIntersex Assigned Female At Birthâ and âIntersex Assigned Male At Birth.â For IS people regardless of when their intersexuality was recognized.
CAFAB / CAMAB - âCoercively Assigned Female At Birthâ and âCoercively Assigned Male At Birth.â These terms are not intersex exclusive and are generally used to underline the fact that gender assignment is nonconsensual. [TW] In the IS community these may be used to describe people who underwent IGM or other medical methods of assignment.
FAFAB / FAMAB - âForcibly Assigned Female At Birthâ and âForcibly Assigned Male At Birth.â Used similarly to CAMAB / CAMAB in the intersex community.
IGMÂ - [TW] Infant/Intersex Genital Mutilation. Used by IS people in reference to the surgical procedures used to alter intersex peopleâs genitalia/remove internal organs in order to assign or reassign our sex and/or gender.
Forced/Coerced HRT - [TW] Forced/Coerced âHormone Replacement Treatmentâ is an experience that probably deserves its own name independent of HRT, however is called this due to lack of terminology. It refers to the hormones given w/o proper consent to IS people in order to make us appear dyadic. It also may be given as a result of IGM impairing or destroying organs responsible for the production of certain hormones.
Gender Identities
Intergender - A gender that is in some form linked to being intersex. Also known as Integender or Mera.  A similar identity is Amalgagender.
Inter-Aligned - A gender alignment for nonbinary IS people whose gender is aligned with being IS instead of or alongside being masc-aligned or fem-aligned.
Amalgagender - A gender that is affected by or mixed into oneâs intersex identity. A specific inteÂźgender.
Duogender - A gender that is a combination of male and female as a result oneâs intersexuality. A specific inteÂźgender.Â

Divisigender - A gender that is distinct and wholly separate from male and female experienced as a result of oneâs intersexuality. A specific inteÂźgender.Â
Neutroix - A gender that feels completely neutral, especially related to oneâs intersexuality. Similar to Neutrois, but for intersex people only. A specific inteÂźgender.
Ingender - A form of Agender that is experienced as a result of oneâs intersexuality. Also known as Vacagender or Intergenderless. A specific inteÂźgender.
Rebis - A gender that transcends the false idea of gender and sex as binaries. Not to be confused with Resbis. A specific inteÂźgender.Â
Resbis - A term to describe an intersex person who feels regularly conflicted by and is trying to reconcile with their gender identity, or who feels they have in the past struggled with their gender identity, but who has now reached a state of harmony with their gender. Not to be confused with Rebis.
Trans-Intersexual - A term for IS people who feel as if theyâre both biological sexes and do not fit into the categories of âmale or female.â These people fit the categories of both intersex and transgender people. Not to be confused with Transgender-Intersex.
Gender Modalities
Ipsogender - A gender modality for IS people who identify as the gender they were assigned, and may or may not identify with being cisgender due to their experiences with intersexuality, dydaism, and/or cissexism. Transition Related
XTF - A term for IS people who are transitioning femininely, regardless of whether theyâre cis, trans, etc. Also can be used by transfeminine or exparfem IS people opposed to MTF.
XTM - A term for IS people who are transitioning masculinely, regardless of whether theyâre cis, trans, etc. Also can be used by transmasculine or exparmasc IS people opposed to FTM.
Note on transition related language: An IS person may create longer this-to-that acronyms to describe their personal experience, which may refer past nonconsensual hormone âtreatments.â An example of this is someone saying theyâre XTFTMTX (Intersex to female to male to neutral / their natural body).

Iâm the person that makes a deal with them - they stay in their corner of the room and Iâll let them stay. If they donât, my brother takes them outside. Only applies for slow spiders.
Fast spiders just go straight outside. Iâm not having them anywhere near me. My brother carries them outside with his bare hands while the rest of us watch in horror :â )
are you the person that kills the spider, makes someone else kill the spider, or catches and releases the spider outside
