If you think about it, there's actually very little reason to be mad at the ending of Bayonetta 3 since Hideki Kamiya was already responsible for a three-part video game epic in which a badass female protagonist with time powers queerbaits the audience for 1,000 hours only to enter a child-producing relationship with a long-haired European man at the end of it all.

He's done this exact same plotline in a game already and it's called Okami.

I have never seen a single mecha anime where the robot doesn't feel completely superfluous.

Gurren Lagann would've been way cooler if Simon just punched dudes with his hands. There is no story reason why Gundams can't just be humans in armor. The robot almost always feels like a waste of time. In the early episodes of Captain Earth a given episode would straight up have nothing to do with the mechs and then they just tack on a fight at the end. In fact, if you replaced all the giant mechs in any given mecha anime with magic guns that shoot extra hard then nothing about its plot would fundamentally change. In shows like Gargantia and Code Geass I straight up forget the giant robots exist sometimes.

So, the shows that do explicitly focus on the robot tend to be glorified toy ads and the ones that focus more on the characters makes the robot feel like a completely useless addition that could've been literally anything else. My point is, the mecha genre might be in decline because it's a genre defined by the most irrelevant thing in it.

What's the solution here? Bring back shows where the mechs themselves are characters. Brave series, Transformers, that sort of thing. Hell, make a fucking Titanfall anime.

To elaborate, Diane's entire motivation as a character is basically "I want to prove the racists wrong by being a good person." and she preaches this to Wolf and co. as well. This philosophy will never work and in fact will either get you killed in real life or lead you to become a straight up race traitor, as we've seen hints of in the trailer for Bad Guys 2. As the governor of California Diane has no fucking excuse for this piss-poor level of understanding for racial politics.

Zhen I feel bad for more than I hate but she's still a class traitor because she abandoned the impoverished criminal family she had twice in a fucking row for greener pastures. But I don't hate her for this because she's an abused kid who latched onto the first person who took her seriously and she basically kept doing this over and over throughout her life.

As for Krystal...well, Star Fox is a private military contractor group and we should all know this by now. And Corneria is the only prosperous planet in a star system full of shitholes and its primary industry seems to just be the military and arms manufacturing. I think we can put two and two together here and realize what's going on.

The Pokémon and Digimon foxes are self-explanatory I think.

Lika I honestly don't blame just like how I don't blame Zhen. She's a fucking supermarket cashier who uses drugs as escapism from her bullshit life and I understand why she's like that. But still, her defeatist attitude in life isn't useful for fostering leftism so she can't be a leftist icon.

Honestly I think Goodbye Volcano High would've been 2000% more effective if it was more like Dean Moynihan's One Chance in the sense that if you persevered in the face of doom instead of giving in to hedonism and bucket list bullshit then you would've actually solved the problem and survived. That way the player's decisions actually feel more meaningful and you're not just arbitrarily choosing which of your friends you like the most. I dunno, that to me just feels a lot more thematically fulfilling compared to what we got.

I do still think that GVH is a symptom of the fact that we live in a world where we have gone beyond coping with death and started welcoming it. Some of us even see death as the better option. We as a species have seen our insignificance and shortcomings, and accepted them with open arms rather than trying to perfect ourselves or make ourselves more significant. Goodbye Volcano High is a crystalization of that attitude and it genuinely makes me disappointed in my own species.

My whole "the government should give blind children cybernetic eyes" argument that I had a while ago was the same deal: It bothers me that people are okay with being left behind or victimized, be it by simple misfortune or the malice of man. It makes me sad that they're content with living in a state of imperfection or disadvantage rather than doing anything to improve their situation, whether that means working on themselves or fighting an oppressor. It makes me angry that they'd try to imply I hate them for wanting them to live better lives when all I ever asked for was for people to have the courage of dreaming for a better tomorrow. It confuses me that people don't like it when I point out that we've been fighting death for ages and it's about time we defeated it.

So please, if a meteor ever threatens to destroy the Earth in real life, don't just sit there like a dumbass and practice for your band concert or, God forbid, call people bigots for trying to blow up the meteor with missiles and save your life because they're "taking away your agency."
