hello! hope you liked that nine page BANGER i definately didn't have laying around for months ahaha..

This is was supposed to be a visual remaster of the first post explaining Chirper yapping, but while reading through it i noticed i had too many thoughts about it that i didn't wanna just vomit down as a textblock, so this is how a single drawing with some text goes to a nine page infographic.

The way the comb produces sound is called stridulation btw! While i found out about this kind of sound production through Tenreks, it is most regularly found in insects! Think of the buzzing and chatter of cicadas and grasshoppers.

Theres a lot of stuff i still wanna talk about like comb maintenance and the trades around it, but i felt it didn't fit the topic of this spread, so look forward to that post sometime in the future!

to be fair the majority of these are not scolipede-related but they're ocs first so they need to be posted together. Nonetheless thank you so much for taking the time to look at my tag it means a lot <3

a few animals that live on the Chirper homeplanet! A few ramblings about them below

An ambush hunter found across the temperate plains. It uses its claws to immobilize prey. It whistles and bellows to scare competing predators from stealing its kill.

A herbivore roaming the western habitable zones. Its nose lip has grown over the airways to aid in warming the air before it enters the body. It sports one of the few fur coats on the planet. This fur cannot be processed into fabrics because it cannot be broken down into uniform fibers, it is still priced by Chirpers for its water absorbing qualities.

An omnivore who lives beneath the shadows of the giant stalk-ferns. These animals use the rectangular shape of their beak to pry open dead bark and eat the insects underneath. This male is showing off a rare green complexion for mating season.

This herbivore lives in the east, where the UV-radiation of the homeplanets sun is the harshest. It combats this with a sort of sunscreen produced by its skin.

A lumbering opportunist, versed in both hunting an scavenging, it uses its weight to scare away predators from their kills and smother prey. This individual suffers from an illness, the skin is drying out and clumping together, causing irritation and itching.

finally finished this thing i showed off a few months(?) ago!

little tidbits about these guys below the cute

'Striders' is the name i call these guys for simplicity, they call themselves something like 'The few admidst many'. Where exactly this term comes from they do not know. It's probably referring to the harsh competition amongst each other.

Striders are part of a group of insectoid hunters/ scavengers. They lean more into the scavenger type, with a set of dexterous comb-like arms to sift meatscraps off of exosekeleton and a pair of strong mandibles to hold up larger pieces of a carcass.

Striders are enduring walkers, although they do not do well with speed and sudden turning, their are more prone to tripping over. (they will cry if you push them)

when reaching adolescence, the base of a Striders eyestalk will form a cartiligious ring around the muscle, strengthening their usually upright position but making them unable to retract back into their socket.

the bushels of hair adorning the Striders' neck hold oil glands that moisturize their sensitive skin and shell. Applying this oil can't be done alone and is a part of social bonding activities.
