Hey hi hello! I am having a good day!

I fear this is about to be super disappointing though because I use the default brushes on clip studio paint :( BUT I can still show them and explain what I do with them in hopes that you’ll find what you’re looking for!

I use this for sketching! I don’t like doing inklike linework, I find it too restrictive and I don’t have fun doing it. I sketch what I want, clean it up, and set the layer to multiply so I can color under it!

This one isn’t that important, it’s just what I use to lay flat colors. Really any opaque brush would do! I also use it if I’m doing simple cell shading, and I set that layer to multiply.

This is the one I use for my brushwork shading! I color the shadows in a dark color, set the opacity low, and the layer to multiply. For my highlights I use the same brush with a lighter color and set the layer to “hard light” instead!

I do think, however, that a huge contributing factor to the “softness” of my art lies in the colors I use. I naturally don’t prefer abrasive and harsh hues, so I gravitate to the left side of the little color block. And, if I still find my own selection too harsh on the eyes, I overlay my sepia background color on top of that layer and adjust the opacity.
