Hey, you guys! I haven't posted in a while and I'm gonna tell you why. As you might recall, I got my Linguistics diploma and the thing I love doing the most is learning languages. Or so I thought. So right before I finished my last assignment ever, I started feeling anxious, but I thought it was because of the assignment. But then I handed it in and the feeling didn't go away and only got worse. Worse to the point it became depression. So for a couple of weeks I just felt numb and would only force myself out of bed to go to work or meet friends who were visiting. Obviously I didn't feel like doing anything, and that included learning languages. But then the depression started to fade and eventually went away - and I still don't feel like learning languages again. This is very confusing because language learning is/was something that defined me, it was my hobby, and people knew me because of that. But I don't want to do it anymore, so it kind of gets to: I'm not sure who I am anymore. It got a little better when Hebrew classes started again, I still love Hebrew, but Japanese feels meh and I quit all the other classes (Hungarian, Czech, Korean, Turkish, Greek etc). On the other hand, I started getting interested in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry again, which leads me to feeling like getting into college again, this time to study Engineering. How crazy is that, huh. So that's why I haven't showed up, I'm still figuring out what happened in my life. #studying #studygram #engineering #math #hebrew https://www.instagram.com/p/B149EfsjG5o/?igshid=qdwtt7j2q0q6

There is some magic in cafeterias that makes me SO productive! I can easily study for three hours straight, doing one task after another. Specially when it's Hebrew homework hehe I'm still absolutely hooked on it 😍 Regarding Hebrew, I've decided to focus on my books so I finished them asap instead of putting effort into lyrics, news etc. So I'm doing both עברית מבראשית and עברית מבית טוב mainly, the same ones as before. Another professor also gave us two other books, עברית מן ההתחלה volumes 1 and 2, more related to grammar structures and the 'technical' stuff, while the first two are focused on learning the language to use it asap. I can already hold some conversation and express how I feel in Hebrew, so I'm (still) super excited to learn even more 💙 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxzw0sWBtxk/?igshid=dkoc41eb35yf

Today it was Czech day! I didn't go to class because a friend is getting married and she wanted to meet up today, but the event was cancelled because she - the bride - was hungover 🤷🏻♀️ So I took a much needed nap and studied at home. This is the second chapter of the third book of the Čeština expres series. I'm looking forward to finishing it soon because the fourth book of the series was launched recently! And I really gotta focus on Czech because I still mix it a lot with Polish. Anyway, I'm really into this beautiful language 💙 My goal is to be able to read Malý Princ (The Little Prince) by the end of this year. #czech #studygram #čeština #češtinaexpres #tcheco #tschechien #cz #languages #languagestudy #malýprinc #malyprinc https://www.instagram.com/p/BxWU_4fhR4b/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=94j6jufhkx6g

After one week of Easter holidays, here I am, Sunday night, trying to recover some academic dignity and do a minimum of studying. I tend to overstudy during the semester, so this week I let myself just sleep (SO NEEDED) and go out with friends I haven’t seen in a while. But I’m feeling a bit guilty now, do you feel guilty for not studying even if it was planned? Well, let’s do this, and for everyone also studying right now, がんばって! Wesołych świąt!

Although I never stopped having Hungarian classes since I first started the course in 2017, I always feel like I have to go back to level 1 classes after vacations. And being in level 5 classes currently makes it look like I have SO FREAKING MUCH to revise that it seems impossible. I even thought of giving Hungarian up for some time BUT my teacher, who's the sweetest human being on this planet, came up on the first class of this semester and said I should apply for a scholarship for a one month Hungarian course in Hungary! So that's what I'm doing here I am all motivated again. And one strategy against the overwhelm of revising neverending vocab is using the star feature on Quizlet. I revise a bit at a time, adding stars to more words as I feel more confident. Trying to relearn everything at once doesn't work for me. Not giving up, not today! היי חברים!Hey friends I really missed posting here for this long absence, so let's catch up: •The main reason I was gone for so long was because I was translating a book from German into Portuguese and the deadline was crazy near, so I had to pull all nighters and work my ass off to finish it. Now Bella is a free elf! •All my language classes have definitely started (some started only after Carnival because hey 🇧🇷). This semester I have only one mandatory literature subject, all the rest is languages and I haven't felt happier 💙 •My focus right now is to integrate my languages into my life, which is the hardest part for me. I'm done with putting effort and losing everything if I don't actually study everyday. •YES, I'm still in love with Hebrew above all, though Turkish is catching up with it. •The classes I'm taking this semester are: Hebrew, Turkish, Sanskrit, Hungarian, Greek, Czech, Arabic, Japanese and Korean. There is algo a study group for Hindi and a potential translation job with Polish, we'll see. •I GOT TICKETS FOR BTS and I'm doing the Topic in April, so Korean is gonna get a lot of attention for the next two months. I think that's it. Here's a conceptual pic of my latest Hebrew assignment. להתראות! 🌘 https://www.instagram.com/p/BvdTiSthU5J/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=104x14g346lff

WELL look who’s got notes! Actually these are only the exercises, not actually notes. But, since I use this notebook for my Hindi online classes, I end up writing everything Hindi there. Anyway, chapter 1 is done, that was a good refresher. I have already gone through this book before and was doing pretty well, even teaching a small group of people, but then university happena. And this time I will also use a book called Basic Hindi, which is really basic so it can be used as a side thing. Can’t wait to rewatch my fave Bollywood movies! But I’ll consider that a reward, so only after both books are done. Hindi is such a beautiful language 💙 I remember once I was at a drug store and I heard a couple talking in something that sounded like flowing honey (I swear this was the impression I got then), so I asked the lady what language were they speaking and Hindi it was. I hope I will be able to speak like flowing honey when I move to India IN SIX MONTHS OMG 🤞🏻🇮🇳

안녕하세요 여러분! After this hiatus we’re back from the dead (and from work, and from migraine etc). Today, after my head stopped trying to kill me (too much time starring at my phone yesterday), I jumped into Hebrew and did 7 pages of the main book (עברית מבראשית) and also some Korean from TTMIK. What I did differently today was writing down many sentences with new words, but always about me or related to my life. I usually only say these out loud, but today I wrote them down and I really enjoyed the extra writing practice, specially for Hebrew. So, for example, I learned the word לכתוב (to write), so I wrote stuff like “I write in Hebrew, I like writing, my dog can’t write” and so on. Never notes, just messy papers that will be recycled after the study session is done (last pic). Can’t wait to continue studying Hebrew tomorrow (nope, still not over it)!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🥂 So let's set them language goals! Now these goals are for the first semester on 2019 only, because in July/August I'll be moving to India (YASSS🇮🇳) so I don't know how my life will be there study-wise. But for now, these are my 2019 lang goals: Upgrade some of my current languages to higher levels: reach B2 in Hebrew, C1 in German, B1 in Hindi, B2 in Polish, N3 in Japanese, T3 in Korean. Maintain Greek, Hungarian and Malayalam, just a go-with-the-course-flow thing. Revive my beloved Turkish and Arabic, I miss these a lot. Begin Ukrainian. I'm setting ambitious goals because not only will I have more time this semester but I also want to make the most out of the language courses my university offers before I move. I'm looking forward to seeing your language goals! Happy new language learning year! 📚 https://www.instagram.com/p/BsJTnNQBUwy/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5rd0t7cbojg9

Since when is disco polo a category on Spotify?? I found it only today, the day I started studying Polish again, WHAT A COINCIDENCE HUH? All my Polish friends hate DP but I love it haha Anyway, yes, Polish is back yay 🇵🇱 I am doing a quick revision with this baby and will soon start my Teach Yourself Polish. I actually need to make myself a syllabus for all my languages because I have so so many books - looks like we have some planning to do.

I honestly can’t get enough of Hebrew 🇮🇱💙 Not so much done today because I had to get out of my house to meet people lol But I could do Japanese hw and study Czech for the test next Saturday. The book I’m currently using for Hebrew is עברית מבראשית and the method (ulpan) is SO good! 100% of the book is in Hebrew, but it’s so easy to study on my own and progress. As for Czech, I’m using the Čeština expres series. I’ve already finished book 1, now I’m on 2 and 3 at the same time because I want to have them both done by July, when I’ll move countries yayyy https://www.instagram.com/p/BrUFp1tA-5q/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=2x97uf8wkz5p

Today I started my day with Hebrew and, as always, it made me so happy I felt very productive for the rest of the day 💙 After that I did my Japanese hw, some Czech exercises and some Hungarian revision. As you have probably noticed, I don’t share many notes, just my materials. That’s because I don’t write notes. The only think I write aside from what’s required in the books is some training in draft paper that is thrown away after the sheet is full, as you can see in the second pic. I like minimalism even in my language learning, so no notebooks as much as possible, just my brain lol 🧠 But it also depends on how I’m learning a language. For Malayalam and Hindi, which I learn via Skype with no official materials, I have notebooks and do make notes. But for classes I attended, it’s usually just the book they provide 📚 https://www.instagram.com/p/BrRZkG7gWHy/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=kk996fkdj2xe

All I could do today was my Japanese homework and some Hebrew revision. Complete slob during the day ughh For Japanese I decided to train a bit of calligraphy because I feel I should “treat Japanese better” (do you feel it too?? lol). As for Hebrew, I reviewed everything I’ve done so far, so I can continue with new stuff from tomorrow on. My plans with Hebrew are pretty ambitious, I want to finish this whole book by early Feb. がんばって for all of us! https://www.instagram.com/p/BrO5iPUgT9R/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=19tkqv34okcpj

So, starting vacations today, I caught up on some Japanese and reviewed a little Hebrew, since it’s already late. I tried doing German too but my internet wouldn’t work for the love of Kant. https://www.instagram.com/p/BrMJV6zgLxR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=c2mr51ircf1x

I haven't posted anything in a long long time, so let's get back to working and getting inspired. Today we're working on the lyrics of this Czech protest song from 1973 aka communist times. This song, Náměšť, from Jaroslav Hutka, was censored and became a symbol of the fight for freedom. I love it when my teachers bring culture like this into language classes!

This is what revision looks like for me: a lot of rewriting, sloppy handwriting, reading out loud, lots of green tea. Plus that "now I know it" feeling at the end 💯

After a chaotic week at uni because of a symposium, we're back on track. And I'm specially happy about having the time to do my Japanese homework again, I honestly missed it. With this little off time (exactly one week), I could notice that it makes a difference to study a little everyday instead of big separate chunks. You get in that magic flow state, which makes you miss it when you stop doing it.
