If you are light skinned or mixed raced, you don’t get to figure out and experiment with your “supposed” Black identity here. You are not important here. You will not be place on a pedestal. The week in review - This is the first week where I have worked with my autism instead of against it in order To create a work flow that works for me. I was productive this week but in a way that works for me outside grind and hustle culture . . . The Fat Black Block is here. This is my subscriptions space via my website. I will cover all of the things near and dear to my heart but first we start with writing. In 2010 I stopped writing after receiving my MFA because whenever I wrote I heard a voice that wasn’t mine but instead the voice of someone who had been indoctrinated to academic and yt culture. Summer has finally arrived in the PNW. If I’m being honest I will probably be inside for the rest of the season. It doesn’t feel pride. Y’all keep saying it was a riot and yet all I am seeing is more ⚪️ folx and tenderqueers taking up space and appropriating the culture. Juneteenth is a joke. Black queer and cis femmes act like you’re somehow under attack because I’m non binary. Like I haven’t and don’t continue to fight for yall without fail. I keep having to quell my Blackness in order to accommodate the violent identities of beige folx. I keep delivering on the mastery of my artistry and somehow end up stuck back in Aunt Jemima’s thick suffocating syrup meant to nourish and educate with no end in sight for my big, tired bones. I am censored, shadowbanned, and hypersexualized by this app for no reason other than the fact that I am fat Black and loud. But I’m supposed to keep my mouth shut. Black christianity and generational trauma. If there’s a war moving inside of you and you are fighting between trusting your instinct and trusting some entity that doesn’t exist. Don’t be afraid to move through that war because it’s happening for a reason. You can have your religious freedom but if you cannot recognize the role that christianity and specifically that Black christianity is playing in continuing to harm the Black community and their many intersections. You are a part of the problem. We are living in hell on earth. There is no heaven cause you were some how a better person and christian. If your kid is telling you that something is off believe them but also know that the game of Christianity is to make you think kids are property and you know best. A reminder of just how rad I am. This time last summer we were on the road for our west coast tour. Being Black, queer, fat, outspoken means being your biggest fan, your own management, your own marketing, your own accountant, the list goes on. There were no sponsors. But last summer I didn’t do it alone. I had @thysiircole. Last summer showed me the value in partnership and community. The value in connecting, in exploring, the value in living life everyday. I haven’t taken a picture of my full body in a couple of months. I’ve been thinking a lot about clothes since most of my favs were stolen. I honestly haven’t wanted to get dressed. The deeper I get into my transition the more my thoughts around fashion and creative drive to dress has shifted. I’ve been thinking about what would it look like to revamp my style. To connect my non-binary and me. A couple months engaging less on this app and socials and I realize my options for this body are either hyper feminine or boring or that’s it. I’ve been wearing mens clothes since I was a teenager and their isn’t much there either. I’m not interested in completely masculine look. The plus-size fashion industry lacks vision and innovation. It’s deeply gendered and poorly constructed. I have no ideas where I go next from here. Why keep supporting brands that tell you they are fighting for change but keep delivering the same thing. I’m not interested in clamoring with with folx who who think their privates have something to do with dressing well. Who think that beigness is next to godliness.
