The journey of Choi Han's, "Is this the first time you watched such a fight?"
To Choi Han's, "WHAT KIND OF LIFE HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING?!"
Choi Han was me, I was Choi Han. The first read-through couldn't be any wilder and yet it is. If this dude ain't worrying about his saviour's 'delicate heart' before ... he now sure worrying about everything Cale did to himself.
The absolute happiness he had seeing how loved Cale is? Bro, if he could cradle all the hurts Cale experienced and 'make it okay'... he would.

I'm sure this has been said before, but I really love the way Kim Rok Soo is such a vital part of who Cale is and becomes. That all the relationships and memories of the past still carry over to the interactions he has.
I feel like that doesn't happen that much in isekai. Where almost all of it is pushed aside so the protagonist can go focus on the fantasy. (Save for the usual my last life pretty sucked.tm) Where they just kinda wake up one day and just go "Sweet! Magic time!"
But there's just something off when Cale wakes up, like he already gave up on himself a long time before this. Like he was alive, but not really living. Like he's ready to go close everything out again despite being an absolute bleeding heart and failing miserably. (Because let's be honest, a bit of this guy probably died with the soos)
So when you find out about the absolute Trainwreck that is is previous life, it really is just rewarding to see him opening up again. This punk holds onto so much of his past, but it's really nice to see him walking forward too.

You try connecting Cale's actions post the transmigration to his past as Kim Roksoo and it gives you more insight into how he might have been as a team leader. Like, take the Golden Plaques thing for example. You know Director Ma gulped and clutched his pocket everytime he had a meeting with the guy because he knew Kim Roksoo was boutta suck him dry.
I love side story 2 because of this particular reason. Choi Han did mention it after getting Choi Jung Soo's memories that his personality is still the same even after transmigrating. But side story 2 shows us how. He wasn't known to the public much but he was famous among the government and guilds and all the power players. And I doubt it'd have been for a different reason then. Even then he was a terrifying bastard whom they couldn't help but listen to because he was the most efficient tactician.
This is why reading the initial chapters of the series, specifically the war with the indomitable alliance, after knowing his past as Kim Roksoo puts so many things into place. Like, no wonder he was so good at understanding the power dynamics between the nations. No wonder his predictions were so on point. Even with the knowledge of TBOAH world it would have been difficult for anyone else to achieve such an overwhelming victory in the war. Their side never lost a single battle and it's in huge part owing to the expert strategising of Cale.
The Church of the Sun God insulted Mary and Cale decided in a heartbeat he'll bring them down for daring to do so. Do you think something like that ever happened on Earth? Someone insulted his subordinate and he instantly started plotting their demise? He lost a subordinate once. If it was due to someone's betrayal, like a colleague, a guild or any other human or organisation, you know they never came out alive from that.
#this is why I love lcf#just because he transmigrated or got isekaied he isn’t op#he is op because of all of his past experiences#his past is actually relevant!#lcf#cale henituse#fan meta

TCF is real funny when you think about it.
Kim Roksoo, now Cale Henituse: mentally 39 years old, looks 21
Choi Jung Soo: mentally 39 years old, looks 20-something
Heavenly Demon: 40 years old, looks 15
OG Cale Henituse, now Kim Roksoo: mentally 43 years old, looks 39
Choi Han: probably a century old, looks forever 17
Choi Jung Gun: who knows how old, maybe several millennia, looks forever 15
And these are just the human characters. Even the different race characters like the vampires, whales, elves, dark elves, and dragons look tame in front of the sorcery of Choi Jung Gun's anti-aging.
#lol#kind of a Segway but that’s why shipping is so fun#no one is a minor!#usually reincarnation or transmigration shipping makes me a bit uncomfortable because of the mental age gaps#but here everyone’s old! lol#lcf#fan musings

Do you ever think about the contrast between Choi Han and Kim Roksoo in that Choi Han held onto his name as he struggled through his despair, chanting it to himself lest he forget it in the flow of time, as it was the only thing he could remember himself by in this foreign world, while Kim Roksoo, despite reiterating time and again how important a name is to an individual, dropped his at the drop of a hat the moment he had the chance to live by a new one. Because I do.
The names they got on being born in Korea, they weren't just names. They were bearers of memories, reminders of their life in that world. For Choi Han, his time in Korea was full of happiness. That's why amid all the hardships of the Forest of Darkness, he did his best to remember he is Choi Han. The boy from Korea who was in high school, had fun with friends and lived a normal life. For Kim Roksoo, his life in Korea was just filled to the brim with pain and suffering. That's why when he woke up inside a "novel" with a different identity, in spite of the hardships that awaited him according to the plot he wanted to give it a shot by living a different life, the first step to which was abandoning his old one.
I feel like I've talked about this before but I felt like doing it again because hnnnnggghhh Calenmnmnfghdfwg
