What You Should Know About Vitamin C and Antioxidants
As we age our bodies change and we often see changes like sagging skin, wrinkles, and other imperfections but one of the biggest changes we see is in the way our bodies perform when it comes to aging and antioxidant foods are becoming very important to help slow the aging process and reverse it. Overexertion of the body leaves us vulnerable to disease and illness. Because so many are subjected to these high levels of oxidative stress at such a young age, humans need the additional power of antioxidants even more than ever, so we should all eat more antioxidant foods.
We all know that healthy diet and exercise are the most important things for maintaining health and life, but unfortunately, not everyone chooses these things to maintain good health. It is amazing that in this day and age, we all still blindly go back to the old "junk foods" diet. Antioxidant foods are easy to find and are necessary if you want your body to work as efficiently as possible. Here is a list of a few foods that you might be missing out on when it comes to a healthy diet.
Eggs
For some reason we all seem to steer clear of eggs these days but in fact, eggs are a great source of protein and vitamin E, both of which are very important to staying healthy and combating aging. Other antioxidant foods would include liver, apricots, cantaloupe, cherries, and other fruits and vegetables. Just remember that you can always eat eggs, just eat them in moderation and make sure they have high antioxidant contents.

Antioxidant Foods - Do They Protect Against Heart Disease?
Antioxidant foods have been used for ages to prevent heart disease, fend off cancer and promote good health. Now it appears that there may be even more protective benefits to eating foods containing antioxidants. The latest study, from the University of Glasgow, suggests that eating foods rich in Vitamins A, C and E could be just as effective as a moderate use of prescription medications in preventing heart disease and other health problems. The research is reported in the latest edition of the Journal of Public Health.
The study was conducted by the University of Glasgow's School of Clinical Medicine. The group studied elderly people who already had mild signs of heart disease but were wondering if there was a similar protective benefit among those without such signs. In addition to using a control group, the researchers examined two groups of subjects whose lifestyles were virtually identical: those who ate a lot of fatty fish; those who ate relatively little so far; and those with only a little intake of vegetables, fruit or nuts. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the group who ate a lot of fish (p =.001) in the risk of having a heart attack or stroke. The corresponding analysis for the control group showed that there was a significant difference in the risk of having a heart attack or stroke, but there was no significant difference in the risk among those eating very little, leafy greens (p =.2), or vegetables, fruits, or nuts.

Of course, what causes heart disease and strokes are aging, so these findings do not imply that simply eating antioxidant foods will help you avoid these problems. However, those who eat a lot of leafy greens (especially spinach and kale) are at a much lower risk of having a stroke or a heart attack than those who rarely consume these foods. Those consuming the least amount of vitamins C and E also appear to be at a lower risk of having these diseases as well. The difference in risk is quite large, but the fact that eating a variety of antioxidant foods may help prevent these conditions should not be overlooked.

Aronia Supplements
Aronia is a genus of tropical deciduous plants, the arnica, in the same family as chokecherries and commonly found in floodplains, wet forests and along coastallines. The genus contains around twenty-five different species with some subspecies of less common species being retained within it. It is one of the easiest species of arnica to grow due to its fleshy taproots and the fact that it only needs a moderate amount of care and maintenance. The most recommended species for this ornamental garden is the Aronia officinalis or the common name of the plant, the Aronia arundinifolia.
The most popular of the species is the Aronia melanocarpa or the black chokeberry. Although there are a lot of other species of the genus, including the all fruit variety, but the black chokeberry is by far the most widely distributed. The plant has been cultivated since ancient times for its edible foliage and fruit which are of a dark green color, quite similar to strawberries. The most prized of the berries are the black berries, although there are also other cultivars of the baronial family which produce slightly lighter berries. Black chokeberry leaves are eaten as ordinary food while the fruit is used as an ingredient of various products including juices, wine and gelatin from aroniaberry.ca.
This versatile berry can be used fresh or juiced to make smoothies, sorbets, ice cream, breads, and breakfast cereal mixes. Most people use fresh aronia berries to make juices. The juice tastes great and is a natural source of antioxidants and vitamins. You can either strain the berries, which takes some time, or you can add them to smoothies and shakes to get the full benefit of the nutrients. If you want a fast way to get lots of antioxidants, just crush five or six fresh berries and add them to a glass of smoothie or juice.

Aronia can be extracted from the fruit using various methods. One of the simplest ways to get the juice is to add a tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice to one-half glass of water and stir thoroughly. You should have about eight ounces of juice in the end. You can strain this juice into a blender and use the blades to chop up the berries into little pieces. These little pieces provide a great deal of nutrients that go into the smoothies.
There are several other potential health benefits of eating the berries. They contain significant amounts of vitamin c and potassium, as well as several other nutrients. In addition to helping you lose weight, they can also help you prevent prostate cancer and may even slow down the aging process. There is a large variety of flavors to choose from so you can find a delicious option for your breakfast or any other time.

There are many health benefits of eating foods that are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. However, some of the best health benefits of consuming the berries may be derived from the effects that they have on your immune system. Some of the possible benefits include: boosting your immune system, lowering cholesterol, boosting the metabolism, and increasing blood flow to the extremities. If you are struggling with a cold, sore throat, or sinus congestion, then the berries may provide a nice solution. They also have some wonderful effects on the gastrointestinal tract, especially the small and large intestine.
As mentioned above, these berries are packed full of important nutrients that are necessary to keep your immune system in top shape. They also contain an impressive amount of vitamin C. This vitamin acts as an antioxidant, which means that it neutralizes free radicals in your body that can cause damage to your cells and increase the risk of heart disease. This is why the health benefits of Aronia berries may extend far beyond those for simply losing weight. Since antioxidants can also slow the aging process, they can add years to your life. Plus, they provide the body with all of the minerals and vitamins that are necessary to maintain a healthy nervous system.
There is a great deal of information available about Aronia berry, including how to buy them, how they can be incorporated into your diet, and how to use the natural healing powers they possess. In addition to adding super foods to your diet, you can also take advantage of the various other benefits that they provide. For example, you can use the extract to treat high blood pressure. If you combine the juice with other essential vitamins, like A, D, and E, you can help to reduce the buildup of fatty deposits in your arteries. You can also take a daily glass to boost your immune system and keep your body healthy.

Antioxidant Foods - Why Do Antioxidant Foods Help You Keep Healthy?
There are many antioxidant foods that will do more than keep you from getting sick. A lot of people do not even know what antioxidants are and they end up taking antioxidant supplements without ever knowing what they actually have. Antioxidants are nutrients that your body can produce on its own as well as from natural compounds. While there is a debate about how much antioxidants you should get from food, most scientists agree that eating fresh fruits and vegetables and fish is the best way to get your recommended daily allowance.
What makes antioxidants work is that they neutralize free radicals, which are byproducts of your body's ability to fight off infection. These free radicals can cause damage to your cell walls, increase your risk of cancer, and can even cause your immune system to malfunction and attack your own cells. Free radicals are always around us, whether we want them or not. However, some foods seem to have more antioxidants than others.
Some of the foods that have the most antioxidants are dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, collard greens, turnips, kale, mustard greens, kale, brussel sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, garlic, and artichoke. Other foods that contain a lot of antioxidants include berries such as chokeberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries. Some people even believe that some fruits, such as oranges, grapes, peaches, and pears, have high amounts of antioxidants that help protect the body from oxidative stress.

Health Benefits of Eating Aronia
Aronia is a genus in the botanical family, the mints, in the order Rosaceae, native to central and northern Europe, Asia and North America. The largest genus, with over thirty species, this family contains more than one thousand known varieties. In recent years, Aronia has become a popular ornamental plant among growers, even in its native habitats.

Aronia officinalis or blueberry or cranberry, as it is also called, is a large evergreen shrub or tree whose leaves are dark blue-green and contain numerous tiny blue-green berries. These berries are very small, about one-half to one inch across, and are consumed raw or cooked. Consuming Aronia berries is believed to improve stamina, increase energy and stimulate immunity. It is also believed that blueberries contain antioxidants, similar to those found in red grapes. The dried fruits are used for making pastries, ice cream, puddings, juices, candy and even weight loss supplements. The blueberry is even used as an aphrodisiac for married women.
The fruit is rich in polyphenols, a powerful group of organic compounds that have antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Polyphenols protect cells from damage caused by oxygen, enhance DNA and cellular metabolism, and enhance the development of new cells. It has been shown that polyphenols found in Aronia berries prevent the conversion of superoxide to acetycholine, a harmful molecule that destroys cellular DNA and disrupts the functioning of the entire nervous system. These berries have been recommended for people with high blood pressure, aging problems, diabetes, ulcers, atherosclerosis and cancers of the lung, liver, pancreas and kidney.
Although there has not been enough evidence to indicate whether there are any health benefits for patients who take regular doses of Aronia, studies have indicated that the berries may help lower cholesterol and blood pressure, control blood sugar levels and possibly prevent some forms of cancer. Some studies even suggest that it may help to prevent cancer. Most of these studies are still preliminary and more research is needed to support these claims.
Aronia contains a variety of antioxidants including flavonoids and polyphenols. Flavonoids are a group of chemicals that include hundreds of different chemical compounds. Antioxidants can help protect the body from outside influences such as ultraviolet radiation. Studies have indicated that eating plenty of berries and taking a daily dose of antioxidants can help to prevent atherosclerosis, a condition that leads to the formation of blood clots in the arteries. Those clots can block the flow of blood to the brain and heart and can eventually cause a stroke or heart attack.
Polyphenols are another group of chemicals that are found in many berries. These chemicals act like antioxidants. They scavenge free radicals that have formed in the body. Free radicals are unstable molecules that are created in the body from pollution, pesticides and alcohol. Eating foods with a high amount of polyphenols, like the berries of the north America, may help to reduce the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and some forms of colon cancer.
Other polyphenols that can be found in the aronia berries of the north America include niacin and protein. Both of these help protect cardiovascular diseases by reducing blood clot sizes. They also reduce cholesterol levels. Many berries, including blueberries, cranberries and raspberries are also high in fiber. The added benefit of adding fiber to the diet may help protect against colon cancer as well.
There are a few things to consider when choosing a berry for adding to the diet. First, look for foods that are high in fiber, because most berries are naturally high in fiber. It is important to note that some berries have a low level of fiber. The fiber content varies between individual products, so it is best to check the label to determine how much fiber is present. Furthermore, check the calories to make sure that the diet does not lead to weight gain. Look at the list of ingredients to find out if there are any other health benefits of eating the berries.

Antioxidant Foods - What Are Antioxidants?
Antioxidant foods are those that have high levels of antioxidants, which is known as the equivalent of taking a vitamin or supplement to protect the body from damage due to free radicals. These free radicals can form through many causes such as pollution, smoking, stress and UV rays from the sun. Free radicals damage the cells in our bodies and cause cellular damage, which causes everything from allergies to cancer. This damage can be prevented with the help of antioxidants. There are many antioxidant foods that we can include in our diets to help prevent health problems and disease.
One of the best antioxidant foods is the vitamin E found in leafy greens such as spinach, kale, lettuce, and collard greens. Vitamin E can help boost the immune system and prevent free radical damage. The body needs vitamin E to absorb the antioxidant foods we consume, so eating leafy greens is an excellent way to get the recommended daily allowance.
Another great source of antioxidants is dark leafy greens such as romaine lettuce, bok choy and turnip greens. Some of the other most potent antioxidant foods include the following: apricots, blackberries, cherries, grapes, raisins, dates, berries, cantaloupe, peaches and pears. All of these foods contain large amounts of antioxidants. Blueberries are also very potent in helping our bodies fight disease and infection. The moderate amount of calories in blueberries helps keep blood sugar low which keeps the metabolism in high gear.

The benefits of antioxidant-rich foods goes far beyond helping prevent heart disease and cancer. They are also beneficial in other ways too. They help improve the appearance of skin and nails. They can keep the arteries clean, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. Antioxidants also reduce the aging process by protecting cells against damage from the sun and environmental toxins.
It should be noted that not all foods are high in antioxidants. Many fruits and vegetables are low in antioxidants. Fruits such as apples, oranges and grapefruit are good sources of vitamin E. Vitamin E occurs naturally in many fruits and vegetables. However, research has shown that some antioxidant-rich foods such as chocolate contain small amounts of antioxidant vitamin e which can lead to increased blood pressure.
So, next time you eat a slice of pizza or a glass of red wine, consider popping a pill containing vitamins A, C and E. If you have not tried them lately, now is the time to do so. An antioxidant-rich diet is just as important for maintaining a healthy mind as it is for prolonging life. Antioxidant Foods - What Are the Best Sources?
Antioxidant foods are literally everywhere: fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, berries, and even soy sauce (if you can pronounce soy sauce). The reason why antioxidants are so important is because they help your body fight off disease. In the journal Nature, researchers at the University of Surrey studied mice and rats and found that certain vitamins and antioxidants could prevent degenerative eye diseases. Oxidation, which is a natural process in our bodies to produce energy and reduce inflammation, speeds up as we age. This process makes the body more susceptible to various diseases and one of those diseases is eye diseases.

Since it is a natural process, we don't have control over whether or not it will happen. However, by eating a diet that is rich in antioxidant foods, we can slow down its rate. As we age, our bodies produce less of the antioxidant called superoxide dismutase, or SOD; SOD is essential for fighting infections in the body and is also a co-enzymatic antioxidant. Since oxidation causes the slowing down of SOD, the more antioxidant foods you eat will help speed up SOD and protect against degenerative eye diseases. The British Journal of Nutrition reported that seniors who ate a diet rich in antioxidants lived an average of seven years longer than those who didn't.
Other foods that are high in antioxidants are soybeans, broccoli, apples, pomegranates, raisins, cantaloupe, peanuts, grapes, and spinach. You may not be able to completely get your daily dose of antioxidants from these things, but eating them on a regular basis is still important for maintaining good health. You can do this by eating things like dark leafy green veggies, berries, cherries, pineapples, bilberries, artichokes, asparagus, legumes (like kidney beans), peas, spinach, tomatoes, carrots, and avocado. Of course, antioxidant foods can be taken in supplement form as well. You may want to check with your doctor before taking any supplements.
