Last night my youngest 9 Cami came outside to join me on the deck. I was working on some 90 day targets for myself in the 4 areas of life I track daily. I could sense her frustration. Yesterday I spent the day traveling. I really enjoy being in different environments, learning and experiencing different things. However, customer service should not be something that is compromised regardless of location. It absolutely does not matter what business you are in you have customers. Either you serve the public face to face, maybe you interact strictly online, or maybe you operate a B2B company. you still have a customer to serve, a client to care for and protect. Multiple instances today I witnessed where team members strictly followed a process or system and didn't think to connect with the customer and their needs. I'l have you consider that the best in class businesses know how to connect with their customers. They make you feel welcome and appreciated. They create experiences, the team has enough agency and is empowered to make a decision that is right for the customer. In my experience no process or system connects a customer to your business the way that a genuine interaction, appreciation and connecting with their need will. People do business with businesses that make them feel good.. The End How do you measure up? Yesterday was a day of fulfilling commitments. The day was tuff, yet very rewarding. As the day began to come to an end I realized I had not fulfilled a commitment to myself to train. I was tired, hungry, and had 100 excuses. While I was running I came to another realization. The time consider how I feel about something is when the decision is being made, when I am contemplating the commitment. However once the decision is made, and the commitment has been solidified the option to do it or not is no longer an option. My feelings about the commitment are irrelevant.... Empathy..... One of the most simple and difficult things. I truly believe that some people are just born with this gift, some have to work really hard at growing this capacity. It is a powerful gift and skill set. Holding space for another person, lovingly, knowing and acknowledging that it doesn’t have to be ok. It can just be....be what it truly is. Check in with your team, show them some of the things you have access to. Sometimes you really don’t know what you don’t know. A culture where sharing information without worrying about credit or self is a culture that will thrive! In my experience I have found this is very applicable at home as well.
